Correct me if I'm wrong - rogues in Origins were ultimate, while Rogues in DA2 suck ass? I wanted to play a Rogue in 2, but it was frustrating. If you want them to lockpick and disarm traps, you need cunning, which contributes to defense which won't be high enough anyway to be as useful as in Origins.
Anyway, I need help with a melee build. I'm told TH are great in 2? If so, can someone help me with a detailed build? Where should my attribute points go, what skills should I take, what specialization, what companions, and so on.

I wouldn't say rogues suck ass, in fact that's quite contrary to everything I've seen/read about them

Rogues are the best sustained DPS in the game. With the right spec they never run of stamina and can almost 1 bosses.
Maybe it's an l2p issue

Rogues certainly do not suck ass or anything else in DA2. In fact, I think they are a lot more fun to play than they are in DA:O. DW Rogues in DA2 have insane single target DPS and are very interactive to play with great spike damage. In DAO, the best Rogue I built was a cun stacking, autattack crit monster. Powerful, but not real fun to play as the only thing you had to do as a player was position for back stab.
In DA2 there are a lot of fun abilities to utilize and insane special attacks. Archers in DA2 are closer to DAO in my experience as they get a lot of DPS through autoattack crits, but still have Assassinate etc. for great spike damage.
Overall though, I think people just need to understand that DAO and DA2 are two different combat systems. Just because your character isn't the exact same as DAO, doesn't mean they suck. Same for mages. Lots of crying about how mages are so weak in DA2. When built right for what they can do in DA2 rather than DAO, they are anything but weak.
edit: you're also wrong about Rogues being ultimate in DAO. That title belonged to mages.

Well Bones, if you can offer me a detailed build on a DW Rogue, I'd be more than grateful, it being my favorite class.

Here's a really good one from the stickied builds list at the top of this forum

Rogues in DA2 are dwn right insanely overpowered. Its just one shot kill after one shot kill. You dont even need a good build. Get Assasinate and Twin Fangs and you'll be set. Duelist for vendetta is good too.

In Origins, the formula for Lockpicking and disarming traps also had Cunning as one of its members, so that part didn't change. The only thing is that there are no "helper skills" as we had in Origins. Simpler and better in my opinion. And since cunning also is a big factor in determining your critical damage, it can't get any sweeter.
