So, why does Zevran appear at the final boss?

Seems a little odd to me how he just appears out of the blue.
Is he supposed to say anything? Chatter is always drowned out by the combat sounds for me.
How did he know what was going down in Kirkwall anyway? I thought he leaves after your encounter. Did he just want to be the only DA character to be present at both games' final fights?

He didn't. Varric was just making random **** up!

Well, seems like he was still around, as was Nathaniel. If a chantry blows up as spectacularly as Kirkwall's adventeurous guys like them investigate. Then they heard Hawke was in trouble, figured they owe her/him something and went to the gallows. Making a huge speak while entering a battle is hardly ever noticed (and properly unhealthy), so both of them droped it and started to kick ass.

He probably just did it for bragging rights.

Just a theory - maybe he appears there for pure game mechanics - if you did the Murder of Crows quest, but say, didn't have Isabela, Anders, and/or Sebastian as recruited (or living) party members, Zevran is brought in to even the odds for Hawke.

It's game mechanics, yes. The more party members that are dead or have left you, the more extra NPCs turn up in the final battle to help you out. I've seen Zevran, Nathaniel, and Donnic all at the battle (even when Aveline says Donnic is too busy aiding civilians). They're just evening the odds.

It's also due to who you have in your party. If you don't have Aveline and active member, you won't get Donnic. So far I've been able to see Cullen, Templar!Carver, Nathaniel, Zevran and Donnic in addition to remaining party members.

I honestly don't think they should show up unless you do their quests.

The extras show up if you have less than 8 people available at the end fight. That number includes Cullen and your dog if its out. So put the Barkspawn away if you want to see more cameos.

He heard there was going to be sex. Unfortunately the sex was a lie

So the G-Man put him there?

Because when you press that many buttons in a fight, something ridiculously awesome happens.

I didn't even know Zevran was there until I literally bumped into him, never saw Nate. Imagine my surprise.

I think the extras show up even if you aren't missing party members. I had Donnic and Cullen show up on my first playthrough even though not a single party member left me nor did I kill any. I had warden!Bethany come too. I am very curious to know what the criteria for these extra NPC's are.

You can have 8 active allies total in the final fight.

1. Hawke
2. Active party members of his party (3)
3. Cullen (mandatory)
4. Dog counts if he's out.

As Meredith's health drops, more allies join the fight to bring the number up to 8. Here's the order of Priority:

1. Bethany/Carver
2. Varric
3. Anders
4. Aveline
5. Fenris
6. Isabela
7. Sebastian

Obviously the need to be alive, still allies, and not in the active group. After that, the remainder is filled by the following people in this order:

1. Donnic (if completed Long Road and have Aveline in the party)
2. Zevran (if you completed 'Murder of Crows')
3. Nathaniel (If you completed 'Finding Nathaniel')

Since I think its impossible to have both Anders and Sebastian at this point, you should see one of the last 3 in the final battle as long as you don't have your dog summoned.

I had the dog out, only Anders dead and Zevran showed up.
Honestly I think it's cute that BioWare thought we needed that much help.

I don't think they thought you'd need help. I think it was more of a nostalgia thing.

Shoots! I was thinking Zevran couldn't resist my charm and throw himself in battlefield.

We all left... except Zevran. He insisted staying in bed with Hawke. ^_^

Seriously I think only time I didn't see Zevran on last fight was my pro-templar run. I guess team wasn't different than my normal runs (Aveline, Varric, LI (in that case Isabela) and Merrill). I didn't recruit Fenris at all and pulled "don't sister me!" on Bethany and let Meredith kill her. Anders always meet Mr. Murder Knife. Even Templar Hawke did treesome with Zevran why I thought not seeing him is weird.

How could you kill poor, sweet Bethany? :crying:

If she didn't b*tch about my poor little brother in opening of the game maybe I couldn't. I really wish we could choose which sibling to save from ogre so I can play with Carver on every class.

Oh and try to kill her once. She whines too much so you feel happy that she's finally dead.

I think the entire final battle is an exaggeration on Varric's part. Meredith flying everywhere, the statues coming to life and random people that shouldn't be there fighting.
