So, why does Zevran appear at the final boss?

It was a little weird an unexpected but I kind of found it cool like when Arl Eamon or those other important people show up to help you fight the Archdemon.

I think the extras show up even if you aren't missing party members. I had Donnic and Cullen show up on my first playthrough even though not a single party member left me nor did I kill any. I had warden!Bethany come too. I am very curious to know what the criteria for these extra NPC's are.

You can have 8 active allies total in the final fight.

1. Hawke
2. Active party members of his party (3)
3. Cullen (mandatory)
4. Dog counts if he's out.

As Meredith's health drops, more allies join the fight to bring the number up to 8. Here's the order of Priority:

1. Bethany/Carver
2. Varric
3. Anders
4. Aveline
5. Fenris
6. Isabela
7. Sebastian

Obviously the need to be alive, still allies, and not in the active group. After that, the remainder is filled by the following people in this order:

1. Donnic (if completed Long Road and have Aveline in the party)
2. Zevran (if you completed 'Murder of Crows')
3. Nathaniel (If you completed 'Finding Nathaniel')

Since I think its impossible to have both Anders and Sebastian at this point, you should see one of the last 3 in the final battle as long as you don't have your dog summoned.

Even with all these people helping, I think it is safe to say that Meredith was an extremely satisfying final boss.

I think the entire final battle is an exaggeration on Varric's part. Meredith flying everywhere, the statues coming to life and random people that shouldn't be there fighting.

I'm thinking something similar,  and Cassandra's either so enthralled by the story or so impatient for Varric to finish (or has been so worn down by Varric's constant prevarications, exaggerations, qualifications and flair that she no longer has the will to care :P) that she's not interrupting to call shananaegans.

Still, it was a battle over big ideas and over the fate of many people, it deserved to involve animated statues, paving stones getting cracked by impacts, Meredith flying everywhere, and multiple famous people randomly showing up to help out. Reality is unrealistic, after all...

I have yet to see any one past Donnic. I also tend to kill Meredith pretty quickly on Normal. Maybe if the Hardcore fight lasts longer I'll get a chance to at least see Zevran. But still its good to know the order. Thanks for this!

She usually steamrolls me on Insanity, so I'm grateful for all the extra help I can get from Donnic, Zevran, Cullen and Nathaniel.

I thought so too. But I know many felt otherwise. But I enjoyed it more than the Archdemon, the reaper baby, and the sadness (and pointlessness) that was the Orsinio fight.

Because his renewed contract for DA2 stated that he has guest-starring rights, so he's going to use it, by golly!

Wow, even Arl Eamon can join you?  Nobody has ever helped one of my Wardens... :(

I thought the cameos were kind of cool, although it's hard to notice who's there since the Meredith fight is so hectic.  I suppose those characters feel they owe you a debt, although I think they should show up if you do their quests, regardless of how many characters are already involved.  Maybe a few other cameos too, like Bartrand (I heard that he can survive Varric's mission).

Eamon is actually one of the first fighters that join your struggle. He may be a politician, but he is willing to back up his talk with action.

Bartrand is a wreck, even if he survives Varric's mission. If he didn't developed some awesome enchantments with his insanity he wouldn't be very useful in the endfight Posted Image

I think Eamon managed to get himself killed on nearly every one of my end battles. He always charges one of the groups on his own and gets squished. Luckily someone loans him an injury kit before the end sequence.

He is actually pretty awesome at tanking the Archdemon. I alwys back him up with Wynne as a healer and can take one more damage dealer with me.
