Double Edit- There... I changed the topic's title cause I was getting sick of people treating this like a MW2 is better then DA:O thread... obviously many people don't actually read the OP.

PS- Dragon Age pwns MW2 in my book!

Before you say, "their games for diffrent types of gamers!" I gotta disagree, a gamer can easily love both the RPG and FPS genre, I sure as hell do. I loved Modern Warfare just as much as I loved Drakensang and Witcher... well ok, maybe I liked Modern Warfare and the Witcher more then Dragkensang, but you get the point. Same w/ all my gaming amigos.

SINCE Mordern Warfare 2 and Dragon Age are for the consoles and PC, AND since both are competeing over holiday sales...

How big of a hit are Dragon Age sales gonna take from Modern Warfare? No matter what, it's gonna be a big f*in hit to Dragon Age's sales.

Modern Warfare has already beaten out Grand Theft Auto IV's release... but also beat the movies Dark Knight and Harry Potter in terms of sales... thats amazing.

It's assumed Modern Warfare 2 will make over a billion dollars by the end of teh holidays, a number that will shatter any game to date.

Dragon Age is gonna be hurting pretty bad :(

But people with enough money to buy both are gonna be mighty happy :)

This doesn't make any sense. There are a lot of huge titles in November/December EVERY year. Every single year. Somebody has to be the 500 pound gorilla, and it looks to be MW2 this year. But that doesn't mean other games can't have very good sales.

That only means that people who buy MW2 haven't got ANY clue about quality :P...Come on,a game that lasts what? 6 hours??

I always benchmark how good my media is by using the sales figures.

Twilight is one of the best films in cinema history BTW.

your first line contradicts your second line because since they can enjoy both, they can buy both.

anyways i cancelled my pre-order for MW2 when i found out they removed lean from the game. i mean a military style shooter where i cant lean around the corners and peek my head out before jumping straight into the line of fire?

it was in the previous titles and they just removed it because they didnt think it was balanced or some nonsense.

i wasnt going to pay 65$ for what i considered a game with worse controls than the ones i have sitting here.

I personally won't be buying MW2 until it's in the bargain bin. Firstly because I only play FPS games with a mouse, and MW2 for the PC isn't currently in a state I care to pay for. Secondly, I wasn't that impressed with the single-player campaign in CoD4...I mean, it was fun, but it was just a shooting gallery on rails with some mini-games and neat cinematics. I'd like to be more involved and given more choices rather than just given targets to shoot at.

I don't think anyone is surprised at how well it's selling given the success of CoD4.

Yeah for sure.  Right up there with Titanic.

Also I hear 2012 is doing god, and that makes sense bause the movie had zero bad points at all, especially not the plot or acting.

The only thing I'm worried about is whether BioWare will now feel that pressure because they're under the thumb of EA, who DEFINITELY cares about such things.

anyways, I have both Dragon Age and MW2. It took me around 4 hours to finish MW2, then played for a few hours in multiplayer with my friends, like 2 hours... Well 6 hours is the amount of time it took me to go from 0% to 8% content done in Dragon Age.

Agreed, I never buy just one game a year.

Ya... not everyone has around 150$ to spend on two games. Infact, very few w/ this economy, I'm just an f*in idiot and used my loan money for college, so I'll be regreting it.

Everything is said.
We will still play dragon age in the years to come, and probably in the decade to come. like we do on BG, which is an old game. We will forget about MW1-2 in few years, because there will be a LOT of 6h length beautiful fps with cool multiplayer. I doubt there will be a LOT of good rpg. Well, except ME2 next year :) Do you still play farcry ? I don't think so.

the only thing i would say to this is it was known they were coming out for a very long time, people had a chance to save the money in plenty of time to buy both if they wanted them.

though you do have a point about impulse buyers which probably makes up a larger section of the sales than anything else.

MW2 won with thanks to its pre-orders. There won't be nearly as many PC edition purchases after the release date after the PC players have seen how badly the port is.

Sales numbers have meaning to two kinds off people. The people who make their livelihood off them, and people who look for justification why theybought something. I fall into neither category. Guess how much I care and win a chocolate chip cookie. ^^
