Wtf? You are comparing apples and oranges and spouting a very false prediction.

If someone wants to play a single player RPG and enjoy 40+ hours of storylines gameplay, then they buy DA:O

If someone wants a FPS game that many have waited long to play, then they buy MW2. Seems like a trolling post to me to get unneeded attention for MW2 on the DA:O boards. Im sure MW2 is great, I own MW1 and WaW and also the CoD2 and 3 but I bought DA:O and NOT MW2. Why? Because MW2 will need serious patching for the multiplayer part to be viable, and Ill wait until thats on sale before I buy it. Bought DA:O full retail because I blindly support anything Bioware makes. I have loved them since BG.

Please cancel your DA:O membership, sell your copy to someone who wants it, and go spam their boards about how great it is.

Wouldn't even buy MW2, since it's over 50€. Way too expensive, no matter how much it's hyped.

Sales numbers have meaning to two kinds off people. The people who make their livelihood off them, and people who look for justification why theybought something. I fall into neither category. Guess how much I care and win a chocolate chip cookie. ^^

You care about as much as a Tranquil.

Hmmm, not the excact answer I was looking for, but its a fair assessment I'd say.

Chocolate chip cookie for you. Enjoy :)

Grow the hell up... if given the choice between DA:O and Modern Warfare 2, I would pick DA:O in a heartbeat (unless maybe we were talkin the 360 version... I would still buy DA:O in the end, but would ponder for a few seconds.)

And Britney Spears is one of the greatest musicians of all time!

I honestly don't understand how generic FPS keep selling. It's the most generic genre of games there are. At least borderlands tried something debatably unique in that genre, It also has acool soundtrack.

Wtf... getting kinda sick of this. How many times do I gotta say it... not about which game is better, and if it was, I would be on your side.

$$$ does not = good... I don't think anyone has said that.

BUT to MW2's credit, the very very very short single player campiegn is pretty damn unique, I've never played anything that felt like being in the middle of a movie, although MW's story was far better then the sequel.

MW2's and other games like it get their value from almost multiplayer only. According to them, singleplayer is a training ground for multiplayer at best. So playing through the singleplayer campaign is like playing a slightly long tutorial.

I don't really think MW2 will affect DA's sales that much. They are completely different games which came out 2 weeks apart from eachother. Two weeks is forever for video game sales.

As a PC gamer, I did not, and will not buy MW2. Activation and IW completely screwed over us PC gamers, more than any other developer/publisher combo has in a very long time. MW2 could be laying in the bargain bin for $5 and I wouldn't even consider purchasing it.

I changed the title of the thread so people better get the idea of it, I guess I can't blame them for thinking this a troll thread, the title did come off as sounding like I'm claiming MW2 is better the DA:O, although people should actually READ the OP before responding it's still somewhat my fault.

I tend to agree with the OP. I own both, love both. Endless multiplayer and a long story driven game.

TBH, with the economy a lot of people do have to pick and choose what they buy. That's why a lot of games got pushed back into 2010. I'm glad DA:O didn't... but I have no doubt that it will hurt it's sales to a degree.

There's certainly overlap between fanbases for different genres, but I imagine there are huge swathes of people in either camp who could care less about the other. On top of that, DA is a single player experience, which is something I enjoy far more these days than multiplayer team/deathmatch type games. However, I have gamer friends who won't even touch DA simply because it isn't multiplayer (for which I can't blame them; they only have so much time to game and when they do, they prefer CoD/Halo type games).

So yeah, it would be foolish to think MW2 won't have _any_ affect on DA's sales at all (as you mentioned, not everyone can afford to go out and buy every game), but I don't think it will be as substantial as you make it out to be simply because they're two very separate, very distinct experiences that mostly appeal to different crowds.

Wait wait wait.. Grow up? Thats like your catchline huh?
You post on this board that MW2 punches DA:O in the face, but you like DA:O more but you are afraid that because of MW2, DA:O wont get the sales you feel it deserves?
Im confused here. REALLY confused. First off, why do you care about MW2 sales, im sure Bioware isnt. Their game has sold record amounts over all platforms, and Xmas is coming soon, they will surely release more DLC before then and keep sales on their product going. Listen kid, and I say kid because Im thinking your like 16 years old, seriously. Bioware is kind of like the Last of the Mohicans, along with Blizzard. They KNOW how to make games (see Mass Effect, DA:O and soon Mass Effect 2), they also know HOW to MARKET those games to get the most sales they need. The DLC wasnt something they came up with over brunch by accident. They observed how other game makers, most of them unsuccesfully, were trying to implement things and they realized that rather than making a full fledged sequal (like ME 2) they can give us our fix through smaller more economically managed portions, and give us a sequal over time while paying for that sequal with added content that is easily downloaded. Its kind of smart business sense. No one will pay $7 for an extra rifle and skin for MW2, but LOTS of people have spent the $7 for the added content for DA:O and defend their doing so.
Not to mention that Bioware sold 1 million dollars of DLC so far. at $7 a copy, thats a lot of copies. It topped sales charts for weeks, and is now only outsold by one game, MW2 which has some catchup to do. If anything, Bioware and Activision are both popping champagne together. Coming up with a Dragon Age : modern Warfare crossbreed.

Although Im sure Bioware appreciates your concern, but they are too busy popping the champagne cork happily while reviewing their sales figures that keep climbing.

It seems like a fair enough point to make. Regardless of genres, games will always remain competitive sales-wise (just as apples and oranges will, as they both sustain a particular need...we're not talking hammers and spoons here ). Anyway, MW2 IS and WILL be a huge contender for any title; based on the popularity of the original MW, sales in the UK and some "sales figures" I've seen (accuracy in doubt). As has already been stated, not everyone can afford to purchase mutiple titles, especially with christmas coming, and ESPECIALLY considering the current economy...this isn't even taking collectors editions into account. Sad fact is, I'd imagine that if you decided to randomly pick a handful of people to ask which they'd pick between the two games, quite a few more would say "modern warfare 2". I'm not even sure why I call that a sad fact; Modern Warfare is definitely fun in its own right

I dont think it will affect sales that much. First of all because the genres are so different. Second of all because DA:O caters to a mature crowd who can afford many games a year. I like both fps and rpg like the OP, heck I like any kind of game as long as it is good (rts, adventure etc). But I dont think that the rpg crowd would even consider buying MW2 over Dragon Age, and the game is certainly tailored for rpg fans.

To be honest, what DA looses in sales over the christmas season it'll catch up afterward. So nothing to be concerned about there.

Grow up will be my cliche' response to those who respond to a thread without, ya know, READING IT. But calling me kid... I kinda like that twist you threw in there. Tricky.

BUT now you have brought up good points, this is the discussion I wanted to have.

First, it's called competition for a reason. There are MANY examples of movie sales/game sales being really hurt because their up agianst something much popular. And while bioware prob aren't losing any hair over it, I'm sure EA is.

People don't tend to buy two games at once, thats allot of mula to throw away for entertainment, so my question is, with Modern Warfare 2 being so damn popular, how much hype, customers, and money has MW2 raging success drawn away?

Actually, ignoreing all the nasty comments in your post, you said EXCATLY what I wanted to hear, so thanks I guess.

PS- 6 years into college, I can't afford to stay in school

Double Edit- There... I changed the topic's title cause I was getting sick of people treating this like a MW2 is better then DA:O thread... obviously many people don't actually read the OP.

PS- Dragon Age pwns MW2 in my book!

Before you say, "their games for diffrent types of gamers!" I gotta disagree, a gamer can easily love both the RPG and FPS genre, I sure as hell do. I loved Modern Warfare just as much as I loved Drakensang and Witcher... well ok, maybe I liked Modern Warfare and the Witcher more then Dragkensang, but you get the point. Same w/ all my gaming amigos.

SINCE Mordern Warfare 2 and Dragon Age are for the consoles and PC, AND since both are competeing over holiday sales...

How big of a hit are Dragon Age sales gonna take from Modern Warfare? No matter what, it's gonna be a big f*in hit to Dragon Age's sales.

Modern Warfare has already beaten out Grand Theft Auto IV's release... but also beat the movies Dark Knight and Harry Potter in terms of sales... thats amazing.

It's assumed Modern Warfare 2 will make over a billion dollars by the end of teh holidays, a number that will shatter any game to date.

Dragon Age is gonna be hurting pretty bad :(

But people with enough money to buy both are gonna be mighty happy :)

WRONG. I despise FPS games and i consider them the MAIN reason why games today have less integrity than games of yesterday.

It won't hurt their sales at all and shouldn't because it's another  worthless garbage game for the 14 yr old twitch kiddies to get their rocks off on for a few hours.  There are easily 40-50 titles out there that are far superior to FPS games and those useless Grand theft auto games.

Modern Warfare 2 is a joke on the PC, so I wouldn't worry too much about it on this platform. On consoles, though, the situation may be inverted.

Ok then, now that we understand eachother your concern is unfounded. It would be like saying that apple sales are hurting oranges that season when we all know an apple pie wouldnt be the same with oranges or that orange juice made with apples is actually applejuice.

MW2's hype doesnt deter from DA:O's sales because simply they are two very different games. The ONLY similarity is that they both have achievements.

EA/Bioware markets their product to ALL gamers, as does Activision. Of course there is rivalry, but the only sales that you STEAL (how many people are really choosing between the two games, honestly) with one or the other is ones from the same game genre. A better argument would be, is DA:O hurting Assassins Creed 2's sales because of the success it has been having across the PS3 and Xbox platforms. Those games are actually similar.

But yes, some people who MAY have bought DA:O may have changed their mind when MW2 came out, but the amount of people that did are small and not worth the time to fret over.
