Torchlight is awesome. Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer (co-designers of Diablo and Diablo II) helped with the game. Ofcourse it feels and plays the same but it's great. It's a dungeon crawler so don't expect Baldur's Gate story telling or decision making.

Magicka is not exactly an RPG, although it has some RPG elements.

But it is lots of fun and only costs $10 on Steam.

Are there any classic-style games? Like not with flying boats or like ninjas?

I would pre-order the Witcher 2, that is being released May 17th, and in the meantime if you have not played it try the Witcher enchanced edition so you can get the back story before the release of the 2nd one, the 1st one you can get on Amazon for $14.99

Excellent indie game. Very fun! Wanna add me on Steam and play some coop =D

@darkshadow136  Don't forget on GoG.com Witcher 1 will be $5 before Witcher 2 is released.

Yup. Great isn't it? Witcher 2 conference Gop apart of the Dev team said around 1:40 that Witcher 2 is PC exclusive no idea if he meant currently or that's it staying exclusive. But man the game looks amazing.

It's not very effective.

He asked for a "Good" RPG. Witcher is just a bland stuck in the middle porn game that really has a low and subjective view of women.

Obvious buthurt troll, ignore him... Witcher is good however the OP is looking for more of wideopen kind of a game with less enthusiasm put to the story than to actuall freedom...

To the OP:the closest you can get to Oblivion is getting the previous TES games...on GOG.com I guess and wait for Skyrim although it is multiplatform...

Fair point.  Well, on both counts, but regarding the latter, as much as I enjoyed The Witcher, its tendency to lock you into (or out of) particular areas was quite annoying for those of us who like to meander about; I think for that reason it'll never really make my personal top 10, however good the story is (and it is good, lest I give the wrong impression!)

Has anyone mentioned Risen yet?  It's pretty much the spiritual successor to Gothic 3, and I found it delivered in the way that Gothic 4 didn't; ending wasn't great but the rest of the game makes up for it.  I've also been playing Two Worlds 2 lately, and though the beginning felt uninspired I've also enjoyed playing that a lot too; I remember the first one as being slightly better (in spite of the voice acting, I found it was a rather nice little RPG: I think it was often written off too quickly) but had a fair few hours' worth of entertainment from it.

There's also Sacred 2 which has a reasonably open world.  The story is somewhat bizarre and feels a little incoherent, and much of it is deliberately silly, but it certainly drew me in for a good long while.  Only problem is that the enormous amount of roaming mobs can get a bit tiresome after a while.

What do you think about Hunted: Demon's Forge?

It's an RPG, right?

I haven't played it yet & it's reviews were mixed, but I have "Lionheart" on my wishlist at gog.com...
It's not an open-world...it looks to be more along the lines of Baldur's Gate...
As for the first Two Worlds game, I got it for $6 (over $4 of that was shipping) and I don't think it's in any way a great Game...but the Voice Acting is so bad it rises to the level of High Camp!

DRAKENSANG (and DRAKENSANG: The River of Time).

Long, beautiful old-school RPGS. Almost as good as BG2.

The best medieval RPGs would be Betrayal at Krondor & Darklands, but those are probably too old for OP.

No I'm not a troll I was being dead serious, I played the game several times, a few of those I had to force myself, and it just doesn't have anything worthwhile to recommend it.

True I could have been more constructive but I was a little tired at the time so my brain filter that tells me to explain myself probably died on me when writing it.

Witcher 1 is great don't listen to Wolfsite. It's much more mature then Dragon Age or Mass Effect. Combat wasn't great but that's been overhauled for Witcher 2 as you can see in the link from before. Sex cards are purely optional so either you went out of your way to collect them or you didn't. Also even that has been changed from sex cards to full cut scenes of you people having sex but it's not erotic so yea calm down.

If you think the Witcher is porn I wonder what you think of a show like True Blood?

Considering how far the Witcher 2 is going I would say it is quite easy to label it as porn, but if you want me to go further.

Problems I had with the Witcher:

- Most quests are simple fetch and kill X number of monsters or collect x number of items, like they played an MMO and took most of there ideas from that and put them in a single player environment.

- Combat is extremely tedious and linear, very little diversity in combat style and how you fight and what is there (Battle Stances) feels like it was just added to pad the fighting out)

- Voice over work is very grating (This is a personal taste) most actors sound like they have sore throats and only one or two are actually likable in any sense.

- women are portrayed very poorly in these games, even those that look very independant and strong can be put horontally in no time.  Many cases you don't even need to be persuing sex, I as just trying to be the nice person (The main characters forced personallity make this rather hard) and they were still bending over backwards.  Very poor taste.

- Graphics seemed to have this high glare on everything making the game look way too shiny for a fantasy RPG, couldn't look at someone in the face without massive glare from the lighting.

- Game menues and UI are the poorest I have ever seen, the number of sub menues makes thing rather hard to find and the layout is just a mess leaving you spending more time navigating menues and inventory looking for stuff rather than playing an actual game.

Again it's just a poor game using sex to sell the product, and if you go into the actual Witcher thread on this forum you can clearly see sex is the only reason people are getting this game no matter how they make it look otherwise, and the 10 or 15 locked threads due to innapropriate content from The Witcher prett much proves this as fact.

It's a bad game, people just need to look past the boobs to see it.
