During my playthrough of Dragon Age II, I was very pleased to see some of my old favorites from Origins and Awakening come back.
However, some, when I saw them, I literally paused and thought "WTF happened to them?"

Not the girls, no, the girls looked fantastic, like Isabela and Leliana. They were designed very well.
But the guys, the guys are a different story.

When I received the letter from Alistair (who I made king and romanced during my Origins game), I was so excited, that was the first quest I did. When I got there, I was a little surprised.
I know years have passed, but jeez! He didn't age well. The top part of his face didn't show any emotion at all. Like he had just gotten back from the cosmetic surgeon and had quite a bit of botox.
And he had gotten a bit bigger. Again, age I suppose.

That can't really be the case, because Isabela looks stunning.

And there's Zevran. When I took on the quest, I knew immediately he was going to make a cameo. He was always the 'Antivan Crow'. How could you not know?
He certainly didn't look as bad as Alistair, but he didn't look much better.

It just seems to me that they put in quite a bit of effort for the female characters, but for the males, they were done like a scrambling, pissed off parent whose kid told them that they had a project due the next day.

Anyone notice or agree?

The problem with Alistair's face isn't the bigger cheeks... or it isn't only the bigger cheeks. It's the fact that his mouth is way, way too small for his face. So yeah, it makes him look bloated.

I almost forgot Anders. I don't think he's eaten since Awakening! His face is so thin now, every time I look at him on the character screen I cringe a little bit. I miss the old Anders.

Once the toolset is out the serious fans will likely fix this issue, but most of us do agree the cameos needed a lot more tweaking.

Nathaniel did look pretty spot on. I rarely played with him in Awakening, so I thought maybe I didn't notice if he changed or not.

Yeah, I think Nathaniel was the only one who hasn't been facially mutilated. I would even go as far as to say he got an upgrade. Although Zevran doesn't look too horrifying himself, especially when you compare him to several godawful elves that don't look like they remotely belong in the same planet. He still has the distinctive smirk at least.

The elves turned into the Na'avi(?) people from Avatar. Bony faces, pointed years, huuuuuge eyes and thin bodies. Only difference is that the Na'avi are crazy tall, while elves are shorter than humans.

I actually liked Zevran's appearance... I thought that he looked a bit chubbier, but I figured that was from living well with the Warden.

I thought of trying to romance Zev in Origins, but Alistair was so funny and adorable I skipped Zevran all together. From what I read, he isn't too different from Isabela, with the no emotional ties stuff. Who has done Zevrans romance? How was it?

Actually I'd say Nate looks better, he no longer has that horrid Howe hook nose.

It's quite endearing. Zev is a lot like Isabela, and his emotional turn is much more pronounced. Isabela's much more tentative than Zev, so one could argue that he falls harder than she does, or maybe she has more baggage than him. Either way, it's very sweet.

@ The Angry One: That nose is horrible! That was the very first thing I noticed. At least they got it fixed.

I think Anders looks appropriate, actually.  He looks tired and worn out.  Which he is.  He's not the happy-go-lucky, charming rogue, runaway we met in Awakening anymore.  His new (I think better,) look shows that.

I really think that with the past characters, they didn't put much effort in. Or if they did, it was really off.

They way Alistair, Zev and everyone else was in Origins, it's set in stone in my head. I guess I'm just not that accepting of changes.

Nate looks great minus the eye color change. Gray to brown, what? So does Anders.

Cullen looks amazing.

Didn't look Zevran's new look, but was too happy about the fact that he was being ridiculously awesome and taking down Crows by himself to be too upset.

King Alistair looks strange to me mainly because his hair is orange. I don't know why Teagan now has red hair, but I was happy to see both of them anyway.

Warden Alistair was awesome. I cling to my theory that it's the lighting that makes his hair look brown and King Alistair's hair look orange, but that makes all the difference.

Unless they made two (or three, I guess, with Drunk Alistair) models for him. Which is possible, I guess.

Alistair looks like a chubby-faced drunk no matter what job he has: King, drunk, or Warden. I cried.

Teagan looks like a creeper. I cried some more.

Zevran looks just... wrong. I cried again.

Nathaniel looks pretty good. I smiled.

Cullen somehow ended up being hotter than anyone, but he's still bat-nuts. I cried once more.

The color of Anders' stubble is very distracting. It seems he dyes his hair? . I quelled my OCD as best I could.

Leliana's eyes are kind of funky, but overall she looked pretty good. I smiled again.

All the returning Dalish elves looked creepy. I cried yet again.

If I forgot anyone... chances are they made me cry

Nathaniel and Cullen look  great. Cullen even looks better than any of Alistair's appearance in the game. King Alistair eats too much cheese. =)
Zevran looks fine. But I think his eyes are not very elvish, compared to the elves of DA2.
Teagan's nose... dear god the nightmares!!!
Leliana actually looks way better than in Origins. And younger, too.
The only thing I didn't like about Anders' appearance is that his hair almost looks like Varric's. And it's not even blonde, it's brown.

Poor Teagan/Alistair/Zevran.  Time has not been kind to them.

Personally, I'm very pleased with how Cullen, Leliana, Isabela and Nathaniel turned out in DA 2. Cullen definitely improved in my opinion, just as Anders, Isabela and Nathaniel. Leliana still looked like Leliana, so her model really worked for me and I enjoyed her cameo.

I can't really say anything about Zevran, because I'm not fond of the new elf model. He looks just as strange as any other elf. (Again, this is just my opinion. I'm happy for everyone who thinks Fenris is hot. )

I still cry myself to sleep when I think about king Alistair's appearance .

Teagan is now a Howe. He probably hit Alistair with his new nose while turning around, because he isn't used to it. That would explain the Kings swollen face.
