The name says it all. This:

is a normal looking person. This:

is something that nobody enjoys. The only things that are the same are the hairstyle and the little stubble, but the face has been distorted into something horrid. As well as the nose. Please Bioware tell me this is just because he made a cameo and this is not going to be his new appearance. I don't think it's right to give a main character of one game an entirely new look without good reason (Zevran had a good reason, I imagine Sten might. Leliana stayed the same though, so why? why did you mess with Alistair?)

Also, let's discuss whether Alistair is a good ruler or a bad ruler, so we're at least discussing something. I feel he's a very good ruler.

edit: I also have no clue as to whether this should fall into DA2 characters or DA:O characters.

The initial model for Isabella was fairly horrific, too. I'm guessing this was an early guild that they never updated. It even shows in his armor compared to Meredith's. On has specular reflection, the other looks like lead. He just couldn't look crappier, and I'm sure that better was possible to at least a small degree. He won't look much like himself without a different modeling system, though. His face shape and features aren't really doable within the constraints of what they have now, particularly the eyes mouth and jaw/cheek shape, not to mention the fact that wrinkles now look drawn on. Well, not with the character creator, anyway. I have a feeling a toolset would still have many of the same limitations based on what the character creator won't do.

Personally, I hope the style and character modeling gets a complete overhaul for the next game. It was mighty ugly in all ways, and the building heights weren't worth losing isometric view for.

I'm baffled as to how anyone could see Alistair as an idiot teddy bear. He catches onto Flemeth and Morrigan immediately, calls you out over ever decision he disagrees with, and wants heads to roll. Neither an idiot, not a teddy bear.

Oh, he's very cute and charming, and very romantic, but he's also surprisingly uncompromising for someone so lacking in belief in himself. He waffles about his capabilities, but not about what he believes to be right. He draws a hard line about other things. Quite a well balanced character, really. That's what makes him so interesting.

Agreed. You haven't lived until you'd had Alistair yell at you about Isolde or Connor or gotten dumped at the Landsmeet. With my dumped mage, I was torn between wanting the option to chuck a knicknack at his head and being proud that he has the integrity to put being king first. And I cheered the one time he shot my Warden down at endgame. So proud. :)

I think it's mostly the orange hair on King Alistair that bugs me :?. I've said it before, and I'll say it again-I think Warden Alistair looks way better for some reason. I think it's because the dark lighting in that particular scene makes his hair look brown.

Happy to see Teagan helping out, although I don't like the changes on him either.

Judging from the comments you hear from NPCs, Alistair seems to be doing a good job as king. There's a funny comment from a patron in the Hanged Man: "I heard that the king of Ferelden loves cheese. He's one of us. Another of Andraste's chosen."

Edit: Format. Also, maybe this should be in one of the DA 2 forums, since it's discussing Alistair as king in that game, not in Origins.

Well, he's king in Origins, too. Just not for very long before the game ends. ;) We're comparing King Alistairs. Just a sec, I'll go get a Origins king pic to balance it out....

Okay, that's not a very good king picture, but it's all I have that's from the game and not the toolset. ;)

Heh. He's clear across the room. :-) I should get Imageshack or something and post my King Alistair "Really? Not even a pony? Gosh. Way to wreck the drama" picture.

Edit: Quote fail. :)

Pick the "I only wish to continue to serve the crown" line when he asks what you want for the boon at the coronation.

  • Teagan needs to change back too.
  • Oh god the cheese worshipperPosted Image. I spent a good 15 minutes laughing at that guy.

I tried that one once, and he mocked my PC for wanting to be chancellor and queen. ;) I had no idea that what that boon did.  I'll try again with my elf or dwarf and see what happens.

Lol! That makes more sense--and I remember it now.

Re: Teagan in DA2 as opposed to DA:O, something rather drastic happened to his nose. A nasty scrap, perhaps? ;)

Definitely two sides to Ali, one is the lover who adores affection and women.

The other the fighter who lives for battle and is more a grizzly if you will, don't forget all his battle cries including the orgasmic "Oh... Yes!" As Errant says, that's what makes him the great character that he is and that's what attracts many normal level-headed people to him.

It's also that duality, the firm reasonableness tempered with ferocity, when necessary, that makes him a good king.

"Oh... Yes!"

PS Anyone notice that they straightened Ali's slightly hooked nose and hooked Teagan's, what were they thinking???
