Hey guys,

Ruins of the Arvien is a brand new module in pre-production. It is set in a high fantasy world and has a complex and exciting story in development by our seven writers. ( Position closed, that's our max ). We hope to create a great module for you all to enjoy.

The module will be in pre-production until November. During this time we will plan the storyline and work out the gameplay features we will intergrate.

We will begin to release infomation towards the end of September. ( We follow the same value as BioWare - don't release any infomation until it's final )

Anyhow, this is the official forum thread and is where the module should be discussed publically. The project has been created on this site and any more specific discussions should be held on the in-site forum there.

So, Ruins of the Arvien is a module set in entirely new world and over the course of the next few months - more about that world will be revealed.

Thanks :)

~ Andrew "Shadow180" Khan

Hey man, thanks.

This thread is rather old I have to note and an official announcement may be released either today or tommorow.

Our members have poured a lot of time and effort into the pre-production so far and one of our members has produced some fantastic music to go along with the mod. Feel free to subscribe to our project and you should hopefully get that announcement soon.

Our project: http://social.bioware.com/project/43/

Hey Again,

We thought we would be nice to you today and release the announcement early:

Here is a snippet of our story. Storyline is our main focus in this project and although there is a fair amount of combat, here at the GDS ( Game Development Syndicate ) we feel that is what drives the game.

- October 13th 2009 -

In Ruins of Arvien, you enter the world of Deniroth; a world scattered with the remnants of an ancient race - The Arvien. Proud and strong the Arvien considered all other creatures to be inferior, ceaselessly hunting them for generations. In their arrogance, however, they underestimated the most unassuming of these creatures, Humans.

Faced with the prospects of continued oppression at the hands of the Arvien, Humans forgot their internal conflicts and united into one terrible force. And though the Arvien surpassed them in almost every way, humanity's combined numbers will, and determination finally overcame the Arvien and drove them to extinction.

Now, hundreds of years later, very few remnants of the once great civilization of the Arvien remain. Dusty tomes and folklore, twisted and broken through the generations of telling are the only reminder that the Arvien ever existed. The scattered ruins and the lessons learned have long been forgotten. Petty squabbles over land and religion now spark all too familiar wars for superiority. If only the Humans realized that they now strive to become what they fought against many years ago.

In the northern reaches of Deniroth, a military expedition sets out to plunder an ancient Arvien Ruin; searching for a powerful artifact long hidden, yet not forgotten. It is here that humanity will begin its path to salvation, or destruction...

Note: All content/media is WIP and may change at any time..

Okey here´s some feedback for ye. Random thoughts i´m just throwing at you.

I´m really honest.

I like that fact that you are putting your efforts into this. I love when people spend a part of their life to make a good game.

I believe if you want to succeed you will do so be givin small hints, (and rewards) Build it up,

by keeping the extinct race as mysterious and fascinating as possible.

I liked how they managed that in NWN 1.

One of the greatest impressions you can do on the player is to keep him curious and longing for more.. that will make his journey worth it.

Arvien sounds like a higher elf-race. Somehow the concept even remind me of the Qunari a bit.

Strong and ruthless. The summary /intro text is well written, could fit with a narratorvoice in a game like Icewind Dale.

I understand though that this might be a test of your capabilitites with the new toolset.

I just have to say, ancient artifacts are "the" ultimate cliché. Since you seem to be focusing on story I hope you will bring out a twist or spend time on colourfull characters.

IF it turns out to be a standard hack n slash dungeon crawl searching for a great power it wouldn´t be interesting. We´ve seen that too often. But if the player will be able to grab that power and have the choice to become allmighty and in the end play some levels as notorious villain, that could be something rather intriguing/ a new take on the whole thing.

You often search artifact to confiscape them.. destroy them so the "evil" wont be able to use it. What if the bad guys ae good guys, and vice versa. I hope you can get the morality and psychology of things deeper or make them.. grey. That would appeal to me.

Maybe that´s something you on with the "salvation/destruction-theme"

I would play this to be able to check how the Arvien looks like, I hope to meet some surviors of the race in the module.

:)

Glad to hear some constructive criticism :o Nope, it's really not going to be your average 'hack-and-slash' type module as I think I have said already, story is our focus ;)

I can't really comment about what is instore for the rest of the module, as we are still polishing up our design document and smoothing over our story.

Your points have been noted. Very interesting :wizard:

I wish there could a a half-race of the two. Tips for the ending.
Either you make the Epic villain scenario or the lovestory of reunification and peace.. and make it possible to marry the last girl of the Arvien. ;)
That would be awesome

We will see.

Let's just say our story is deep and leave it at that for now. ;) I really want to tell you all these cool things we have planned, it's just so hard. BioWare must really struggle

More information in the coming future™.

As you said, we want to disclose some information so we can keep you interested as the production goes on. Considering hard production has not even started yet until game release, you can expect we would like to keep a lot under wraps.

What kind of planet is this game on? The same as the Dragon age planet/world?

By that do you mean what lore the game is in? In that case, it isn't the same as the Dragon Age world. It's an entirely new one designed by our team.
