She should have set the Templars on that guy. They could have caught him long before he made it back to the docks. Then he should have been tried by Kirkwall's laws.

That would have been the fastest way of starting the war with the Qunari.

Appeasement never works. The airsock or whatever he's called was looking for a fight anyway.

I think Airsock is the correct spelling. Silly Qunari with their silly names.

Bah, I am disgusted at how lowly some of you seem to think of Elthina, merely for being a realistic religious leader.

Realistic religious leaders are disgusting by definition.

Not just the realistic ones, all of them are.

And what would she do?

Grand Cleric: Mr Arishok, please hand over the Qunari responsible for the murder of Mother Petrice.

Arishok: .............................................no...

Absolutely. As leader of the Church/Chantry, her stature and influence should not be held hostage by the will of barbaric heathens. Even if it means conflict, the leader of the church should defend its principles to the death if need be lest you want her and the chantry's role diminished and taken for folly, ridiculed for weakness. Remember if history has taught us anything, its that true leaders of the faith choose death over subjugation.  And i'm not talking about an rpg.

Hahahahahahaha!

Oh, wait. You're serious.

:pinched:

That's a horribly crippled view of how diplomatic relations work. Concessions are not without purpose, and compromise is not a dirty word. Appeasement does have its place, much as hard-line negotiating has its place. As an option, not as an all-purpose decision.

I think appeasement policy with Qunari is rather useless. Unless you just need a break from the endless warring.

The criticism is because does nothing, particularly when the Knight-Commander installs herself as the dicttaor over Kirkwall and abuses her position of authority, despite Elthina being the highest ranking Chantry official in the city-state.

Its funny, I don't see the Qunari as being the find that would take appeasement seriously. I don't think the Arishok ever makes demands for things that he feels aren't within reason, until the end. Thats mainly what I didn't like about Act 2, You get this acheivement for basically having the respect of the Arishok, then he goes ahead and tries to kill you anyways....

Its sort of the same thing with the group out looking for Ketojan/Saarebaas. Why do they want to kill you if you let them rectify their mistake and kill the Saarebaas that they thought could be corrupted by outside influence. What should your influence matter if the Saarebaas is dead anyways? If that ones goal was to "hold the leash and hunt the gray ones or bas that haven't been enlightened" (the tal-vashoth, and any non qunari, i assume) I find it strange that the Arishok would have packs of "Death Squads" roaming outside Kirkwall..... Especially since he is so concerned about his image with the City early on, at least....

He tries to capture you. That was his plan at least. The Arvaarad and his group wants to kill you, because you have been in contact with a Saarebas without its handler. For all they know, you are corrupted aswell.

The Qunari don't fight you. They take over Kirkwall. Hawke just chooses to fight them. You as the player have no choice there. I am pretty sure if the Arishok wanted to kill you, he'd done that in the compound where he attacked you first. I mean the spears hit everyone just nobody of Hawke's companions/friends.

They could've used the "Met a Demand of the Qun" excuse that the Arishok loves to spout off about.

It is a demand of the Qun. Everyone who has come into contact with a Saarebas without an Arvaarad around, gets killed.

The job of a "Qunari Ambassador" must be difficult.....

Oh she's a good religious leader for modern times when the church doesn't have alot of political power and pretty much control of a city.

But the problem is that she could easily use the power that she has to avert things.  She could've stopped Sister Petrice alot earlier when she used the grand cleric seal to pretty much help in abducting a Qunari entourage.  Her not acting until it is too late basically causes things to get worse alot faster than they would otherwise.

I am not even sure they have ambassadors. They got their Beresaad which they use to deal with the rest of Thedas, but that is it, I believe.

That scene was important in relation to her character in my books. It showed that under the nicey nice exterior there was still an acceptance of certain things.

Petrice should have merely volunteered to join the Qun and she would have been protected by the Arishok right? (Just example 1001 why the Qun and the Arishok are the most hypocritical group one could ever find.)

If Petrice had joined the Qunari, she would still have been judged by the Qunari. Chances are they would've made her Qamek.

Obviously it falls to the Arishok to judge if they are worthy. I doubt sister Petrice would be though. She is a snake and I doubt that's something the Qunari respect. The elves he accepted were hunted for exacting revenge. Which is obviously just fine with the Qunari honor code.

She would've been made to submit to the Ben Hassrith.... Beyond that, I'm not at liberty to say...

Of course that is what would happen, because they love to change their rules to suit the situation.  A couple of elves commit murder and the Arishok is only too happy to grin, say they have embraced the Qun and are now under their protection.

It is only murder in the eyes of Kirkwall law. You don't think the Arishok gives a rat's ass about Kirkwall law? They have not failed the Qun.

The same code that changes as the wind blows.  Committ an act against a Qunari adn you deserve to be hunted and killed.  Committ an act against a non Qunari and it's perfectly okay even with zero investigation and zero proof.

Much like he blasts Kirkwall for having greed, murder and selfishness and there are legions of Tal Vasoth roaming around the coast stealing and murdering.  And others who have ditched the Qun to become mercenaries (But of course he would say....oh they are no longer of the Qun.)  They look like us, they are from our land, they were born from our parents.....but they are not the Qun so it is not the same.

The Qunari are phonier than a $3 dollar bill.

No it's just that they see the Qun as universal law. So it is superior to any other law. Not saying that I agree, but the Qun is actually rather easy to understand. Easy solution for every problem. If it had happened in the Qun they probably do something like a duel to find out who tells the truth, so they have a clear decision in which either the accusers die or the accused. In any case, it resolves the matter.

Correct, he cares nothing of Kirkwall law, even though he has been living there for years.  It means nothing to him and yet he complains bitterly about Kirwall doing nothing to stem their evil society.  He wants kirwall to give up their laws for and for him to be able to handle the situation and yet when it comes time to deal with Isabela he wants to handle that himself as well, despite being told that she would be dealt with via the laws of Kirkwall.

If you are saying that the Arishok expects the whole world to bow to his whims and the whims of the Qun you'd be correct.  It doesn't make it right or defenseable.
