I'm in the middle of Act 2 and I'd gone back into the slaver den used for the "A Bitter Pill" quest a second time to collect on treasure I didn't have room for the first time around.  Going back in again required having Fenris in my party again, but I've noticed that his being locked into my active party hasn't gone away in subsequent quests within Kirkwall.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Does it go away on its own or is there something I have to do to free up that spot?

happened to me last night. going to the Hawke estate to choose party again worked for me.

Going "home" or going to a "gather your party" board should allow you to remove him from your party.
