Got a bit confused there with it

Game says that damage resistance reduces incoming damage and is cumulative with elemental resistance and magic resistance if attack is magical.
Improved stonewall sets damage resistance to 100% when active, however you still take some damage ...

I would split damage to:
1) Physical melee /ranged (i assume no differance on those)
2) Elemental melee/ranged (i belive spiders do nature damage rege demons fire etc).
3) Physical spell damage (blood mage spells)
4) elemental spell damage

Damage resitance effects - 1 2 3 4
Defense - chance to avoid 1 2
Armor -  1
Magic resistance - 3 4 ? 2?
Elemental resistance - 2 3

I belive blood spells ignore dmage resistance right ? any other things that ignore it ? as example high dragon fireball does 70 dam regulary and 14 with stonewall up. My own fireball will do no damage on stonewall while walking bomb will do full damage...

Magic resistance doesnt protect agaisnt elemental attacks (wish it would :P ) ... does it work against blood spells that ignore damage resistance?

There doesnt seem to be any cap on resistances ...

I need some clarification if i get things right and why some attacks still do damage while 100% damage resistance ( apart blood spells)

There are skills and talents and damage types that cause damage to bypass resistance, as you noted. This includes pure damage resistance. On the player side, for example, the passive skill "Destroyer" makes the warrior's attacks bypass a portion of enemy damage resistance. I think it's reasonable to imagine some enemies have similar features. Also, spirit damage bypasses a portion of magic resistance, damage resistance, and armor.

I don't have a deep understanding of all of the mechanics involved, but I suspect that some of these factors may (at least partially) explain your experience.

There are two options: either the system doesn't allow a complete immunity from resistances, or the formula rounds up the numbers in a way which results in something higher than 0 damage.

Walking Bomb deals spirit damage which lowers resistances by half.

I don't think you can get an answer to why that is happening unless you can get someone from Bioware to check the formula for you.

@Waltzingbear

The only reason I came to this thread is to get a better look at your Avatar. Its...enchanting.

Where did you read about Walking bomb reducing resistancess by half? it doesnt halve anything. It ignores damage resistance - buff or passive and is fully reduced by spirit and magic resistance.
With 100% spirit or 100% magic resistance you take no damage - so there is no "cap" in resistances.

As for bypassing damage resistance - im quite sure monster resistance system is different then players. Magic reistance is expressed by difficulty seting - at nightmare everything has 50% mr elites with 75% etc. However that MR doesnt reduce spell damage.
Monsers have no defense and probably no armor stat. They go with physical resistance and element resistance.
Mr dragon that were able to do 14 damage with fireball on 100 damage resistance (down from ~90) deals 0 damage on 100% fire resistance target., magic resistance has no impact in this case.

You are right about the 100% fire resistance making the character immune to fire. However at 99% the character will still take about 13 fire damage; so something in the calculation is indeed awkward.
I would guess that the difference is simply that at 100% fire resistance some factor is switched to provide an "immune" status and there is in fact no actual damage calculation that will (not) result in 0 damage. The same factor is not switched when Damage Resistance is at 100% which results in the character taking some damage.
My former statement still holds.

Magic Resistance affects spells, only not the High Dragon's fireballs.

It's also important to note that at least some of the effectiveness of the player's various resistance types changes depending on the rank of the enemy attacking him or her. That is, the numbers you see listed on the screen are typically for "normal" enemies. Higher ranks have an easier time hitting and doing damage, from what I can see.
