Did you like Mass Effect 2?

Reason I'm asking is because Mass Effect 2 is widely seen as a console centric game and that's fine.  Mass Effect has it's origins on consoles anyhow.
Dragon Age:Origins however was originally developed as a PC title and then ported over to consoles so I can understand why some PC fans of Dragon Age:Origins may have been slightly upset with the changes.

So I want to know if your dislike of Dragon Age II has more to do with the actual quality of the game, or your disappointment over the game not catering to the platform you enjoy the most.

I loved DA2 but I could have done without most of the 'consolization' myself. ME2 was better in that regard but it was designed from the ground up to be so. Whereas the Dragon Age series requires a more tactical method due to having more characters on your team and directly being able to control them.

I think DA2 tried a bit too hard (in combat) to be something it wasn't meant to be. I think there's some middle ground to be had.

Yes Mass Effect2 was a polished game with a decent combat system. I would never call ME2 a great RPG but it was a great game.

I liked ME2 as a interactive movie, which after playing the first was exactly how i felt the franchise was trying to be. So me2's removal of core rpg elements was unwelcome but it didn't hinder the game from being the interactive movie i expected it to be. You could say had DAO been a cinematic game i would like DA2 more, but then again even if i were to have played it i wouldn't be nearly so interested in the DA franchise. I've posted on the me2 boards all of 5 times since finishing me2 2 weeks after its release.

Well, most of the things I don't like have to do with simplification and corner-cutting. The latter I blame on EA trying to get the game out as fast as possible. The former might be partially the fault of trying to appeal to console users, but I think it's more to do with trying to appeal to casual gamers regardless of platform. They tried to increase their customer base and judging by the sales estimates they've only managed to shrink it.

I like ME1 and ME2. I will also buy ME3. I loved DAO. DA2 is a good game, but not a good RPG.

They still feel like very different styles of game to me. Mind you, I liked both games, but DA2 has a lot more replay value than ME2 did. (and believe me, I've tried to replay ME2 quite a few times - whereas I've already finished DA2 twice and am currently in act 3 with 2 other characters)

That said, I prefer the ME2 combat system over ME1, even though it has been lambasted as being more of a shooter than the previous game. (which I tend to agree with, sure ... but that wasn't simply because of the combat system, ME1 fealt more open and old school in its design ... but I can't stand the combat system any more)

Despite the changes to DA2 I would far prefer playing it on a PC than a console ... console games with even medium sized ability/spell lists always seem clunky and hard to navigate to me.

I thoroughly liked ME2 and didn't like DA2. While ME2 is noticable console centric (on my LCD flatscreen at highest settings it just looks.... ugh... dated), it is just that balanced with using slight RPG-features (and an RPG-based storyline) while being a shooter.
DA2 tries to be something that it just can't be - an hack&slash/RPG-game which attracts 'CoD-crowd'. That's personally my concept of 'dumbing down'. Another problem is the most troublesome execution of the game.

To answer your question: no, it's not because of the console focus (unless the devs really think the interested people are really that non-intelligent that they think they are), but because of the execution/quality of the game - and the bloody interviews where insult after insult towards non-likers is stapled together.

My dislike for DA2 stems from the fact that I didn't want to play another ME style game. I was happy with the way ME and ME2 played, and that style of game mechanics worked well for THOSE games. I actually like the dialog wheel in ME. I got used to it there.

With DA2 they took an established style of game play and bastardized it into something that wasn't DA:O and wasn't really ME either. Stick with one gaming style. Fans are attracted to a game and come to accept a style based on their experiences with the said game, for better or worse. Don't change it. Improve on the game - yes, but don't change the mechanics once they are established.

It would be like taking a FPS like CoD and making it a turn based overhead strategy game... I think fans would be a little p!$$ed off at that as well.

ME2 was decent though simpler then the first for me, still enjoyed it. It's a different game then AO, its like comparing Assassins Creed to AO really. They have their own mechanics and strengths. For me at least DAO chemistry just wasn't there in the second game. It was a total rush job as well, there was little love put into it compared to other games I've played. So it left me with a whatever meh kind of vibe.

Good question! For me, no and I do play on PC. As long as I have access to all the functions I really don't care. I do understand that these games have to be 'ported' for the various formats and I do not envy the programmers that have this task. I do own an Xbox 360 and it is old and presently collecting dust on my shelf, but it does work fine when I want to use it. For me, I prefer the PC format because I feel that I get a much better image or graphics then my Xbox can produce. Since I work in graphics, I'm just used to working with a PC or Mac and I do prefer it. To be honest, I don't know if formatting the game for PC first then porting that to the other formats makes any difference or not, maybe some of you know more about this then I do. In any case, makes no difference to me as long as I can enjoy the game itself. :P

ME2 was a great game with several coats of polish. DA2 was a trainwreck with several cans of toxic waste dumped onto it.

I like Mass Effect 2. Sure, I really missed some customization aspects from ME1, I prefer overheating instead of thermal clips and perhaps ME1's plot, yet some of the changes were solid. Combat was greatly improved, for instance.

DA2 on the other hand... ughhh.

Well, after weeks of being cursed, demands that they be fired etc..... If you want respect, show respect. Hitting people over the head and then expecting them to treat you like they totally respect you for it? Bioware's employees' are people and have every right to defend their creation, just as you have every right to dislike it.

Did you like Mass Effect 2?

No.
I just read Game Informer's preview of ME3 and am not in the mood to talk much about the ME series atm.

What's with the extremes? I mean...I get you don't like the game. But is it necessary to be this rude? And yet people get upset with Laidlaw "bashing" DAO? (Is DAO a sacred cow or something?)

The thing is Mass Effect is first and foremost a console title, whilst Dragon Age is first and foremost a PC title. Kind of apples and oranges.

I do not consider his post rude at all.

Leaving personal tastes aside, DA2 has several critical flaws (granted, some were fixed last patch) that I never found on DAO.

I love ME2, it is as you said. This franchise was primarily developed for the XBOX, hell it was XBOX exclusive for some time! DA was primarly focused on PC. Yet from almost every interview about DA2 before release all I heard (read) was: "So this worked really great on the PC. And we thought: How can we bring this to the console players?, we decided to change this to better suit the consoles" and other stuff. I dont want to start a new argument PC vs Consoles, I am just stating what I read. :-)

I liked Mass Effect 2. DA2 not so much. The reuse maps, waves of enemies coming from no where and to be honest I did not like some of the characters, they ruined Anders liked him in awakening, hated him in DA2, did not like Fenris, or Isabela. Your decisions make no difference and the ending sucked. You know the same gripe you read 1000 times.

Good for you. (To me, bashing = rude. Many DAO fans seem to agree, since they keep cussing and mocking Mr. Laidlaw for bashing DAO.) To me DAO is a broken shell of a game without Mods. (Esp. Dialogue, Bug, restoring broken content and plot flags as well Epilogue patches. And even with all these, it's still riddled with bugs)

So if bashing = rude, what do you have to say about laidlaw's commented about DAO? Justified? Isn't that really hypocritical?

If I bash DA2 I am rude, but you bash DA:O that is ok.  I'm must be missing something?
