Hi everyone,
I just reinstalled NWN2 on my new PC and ran into a problem with the game yesterday. FYI, my PC runs on Windows 7, and has plenty of RAM and Harddrive space to run it. I don't have the exact specs on me, but the computer is in top shape with ample amounts of memory, and a good graphics card. For more details, I'll have to come back later after checking them out.
So the problem comes when I first get to the Sunken Flagon in Neverwinter. After talking to Duncan for the first time, and having my journal updated, I try to leave the Flagon, but then the game stops working. Literally, the game screen will go black for a second, and then I'm back at my Windows Desktop. I see a message pop up telling me that NWN2 has encountered a problem, and that Windows will "let me know if they find a solution".
I tried updating the game (again), and now it's currently running on Version 1.20.(something). Tried the game again, and while it loaded up fine without problems, once I get back to the Flagon, and then try to leave, the game stops working again.
The copy of NWN2 I have came from the "Platinum Edition", which includes Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir.
Has anyone else run into this problem before? And if so, were you able to fix it? Any help at all would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

i've had this problem too with my win 7 desktop. i've even ran it as administrator in xp service pack 2 and 3 compatibility mode. game still crashes once i leave the sunken flagon. tried uninstalling and reinstalling to another hard drive, with new folder directories and everything. still happens. runs fine on my laptop running xp service pack 3.

I am having this problem too. Is there any solution other than running it on an older computer?

Exact same problem, I started a new game and this is happening to me too. Using Windows 7 by the way. Never encountered any problems before this one. When I looked at the error log created by the game, it says nwn2main.exe has caused an access violation exception.
I can copy - paste or uppload the error log if it would help to solve the problem...
Edit: Luckily I just found I had another save with a different character from a long time ago, just outside the Sunken Flagon. After going in and talking to Duncan and trying to get out same thing happened. I checked the error log again and - surprise surprise - it has the same error message.

I run Windows 7 and have had no crashes (although not no bugs...)
Anyway, I make sure it runs on ONLY on CPU0. If you have dual core or better, do the same. Windows Task Manager, Processes, right click on the nwn....exe, Set Affinity. I do this on the loading screen of NWN2. (This is also a recommended way to increase your frame rate).
Also, I do not run it in Administrator mode but logged on with an actual Administrator level account. And I made sure I have full Access rights to the folder that NWN2 resides in, and made sure to reset the access to full after the install in case some folder or file gets the wrong permissions set during the install.
Hope this helps.

Found the source of my problem. It seems while patching, one patch didn't install, which gave an error. I had to uninstall the game and reinstall it just to patch it all the way through and then the problem is solved.
