Kaiden is a few years from going insane/his head exploding from his L2 implant
Come on people.

Is anyone still seriously up in arms about this? Ridonk.
I don't see the problem. It certainly makes more sense than, say:
• A drell, turian or quarian wanting to have the sexytimes with a HUMAN.
Off topic, but if all of their HUMAN fans wanted to have sexy times with a drell, turian of quarian, the why shouldn't it go the other way?
I think a chat with Mordin about all the reasons not to go there says all that needs to be said.

OMG, this is like, SO well thought out. Except, you know, not.
Ashley is pro human in 2183. Ashley is not made a Spectre in 2183.
Your statement about Kaidan is based on what exactly? And for all we know, he may have been upgraded to an L5 implant by the time ME3 starts.
So if THOSE are your reasons, you need to get better reasons. Come on people.

In all honesty though the VS is so boring when compared to all the other characters in the game that being a Spectre would be the only story line that could make them more interesting. Plus it would follow the trend of Shepard's squad mates becomeing more powerful. Liara - The Shadow Broker and Wrex - a powerful Krogan Clan leader.
It would be sad if Ashley and Kaide stayed grunt soilders.

Political investment. That's what I think is the only reason they were even considered to be Spectres, because I don't believe that "they could've gotten better during those two years, herp a derp" crap at all. I think I would've noticed or been told if they did something that spectacular to be worthy of becoming Spectres. Which isn't the case.
Tali's not going to be the next human Spectre. I know it hurts, but that's the way it is.

Oh, shut the **** up, you ****. I've never stated that I want Tali to be a Spectre. I don't even think she'd be a good admiral. So for once in your "mature" life, is it really too much to ask of you to keep your ****ing retarded accusations to yourself?!
Seriously. I've had enough of your bull****.

Your sarcasm was a little too stealth.
Though to hear some around here tell it, Ashley and Kaidan should be washing dishes in a diner on the Citadel, they're just tooo stoopid and mean for daring to say mean stuff to them (the player, not Shepard) on Horizon. I mean, didn't they know that Cerberus had brought them (again, the player, not Shepard) back to life and they had to stop the Collectors that are like a legend that nobody knows about and the Illusive Man even said they're working for the Reapers and you could totally tell on Freedom's Progess when we ran into Tali... (Pause) ...that the Collectors were totally abducting humans and making smoothies out of them at the end of the game so they could make a big Terminator thingie and it was going to invade the galaxy and kill all humans for smoothies and didn't they know all that?! Stoopid Ashley and Kaidan!

Exactly how would you know anyway when even the freakin Shadow Broker don't have access to their files?

Spectres are covert operatives, not ambassadors. The fact that Kaidan/Ashleys exploits are so well-concealed is a mark in their FAVOR. Next argument.

No, I'm trying to shove away the bull****, that's all.
They made such a huge deal out of the Spectres in the first game. Now it's just a title you can add to your resume for giggles.

The Shadow Broker has info about everything literally nothing is classified or unavailable to him.
Riiiight. Except, you know, not. If that were the case, we would know exactly what Kaidan and Ashley have been up to since 2183 in exacting detail. Even if they were working the counter at Citadel Souvenirs on Zakera Ward the whole time. And yet, the Shadow Broker didn't have the intel. So, hypothesis debunked.

It's more or less just a lazy attempt at "SURPRISE!" in Mass Effect 3. But I've suspected they were going to make Kaidan/Ashley a spectre for awhile now anyway so it doesn't both me :/

I agree with LordEurope in that they lack qualification though in two years I suppose with spector training they could make up for it but Kaiden dies on virmire in 9 out of 10 of my games for a reason he's not a tank, he's a liability power wise, mentally wise, and strength wise. Ashley lives 9 times out of 10 because she's more stable tactically she was very strong in ME, she's more mentally fit, and she won't blow up my ship because she got a headache but even based on that I don't see her as having the overall mental stamina to take on spectorship and handle all the pressure and restraint a position like that entails.

they were on the team that saved the galaxy. can't really get a bigger recommendation than that. shepard probably also gave them huge positive reviews. both rose in rank quickly after shepard "died", both probably took on some big operations while you were "dead" as well.
the alliance probably pushed for a bunch of human spectres to be floating about. why not one of the best people you have? ashley/kaidan. it makes perfect sense really. i dont understand why so many are against this.
