As long as the VS can prove that they are worthy of being a Spectre, it's fine with me.

I would rather have Garrus become a Spectre before the VS, though.

If he wasn't doing the whole vigilante thing, I'd think he'd better Spectre material.

well shepard isnt exactly great spectre material either in alot of peoples games. in alot of my games i could tell the council regretted making me a spectre the entire time. maybe a more stable by the books human such as ashley / kaidan would be more appropriate in their eyes.

i mean i absolutely love garrus, easily one of my favorite characters in the series, but he'd make a terrible spectre, he'd go rogue on the first day lol.

Let's look at all the Council Spectres we've seen so far:

Nihlus Kryik: Tangled with Samara and prevailed, so points for Nihlus, but was obviously a little too trusting of his fellow turians.
Saren Arterius: Yeah, quite the poster child for Council errand boy, that Saren.
Commander Shepard: Died, and instead of going to Heaven, went to Cerberus. Great, ANOTHER rogue agent.
Tela Vasir: Actually, not a bad agent. She was doing great until she ran afoul of the aforementioned Commander Shepard, the rogue agent working with Cerberus. Obviously that Shepard is going to be a problem, especially now that she's being controlled by Cerberus.

So, Ashley Williams and Kaidan Alenko, Alliance soldiers who are festooned with medals and carrying the Captain Anderson/Donnel Udina Seal of Approval™, they're bound to be lookin' pretty good to the "ah, yes, Reapers" Council.

you mean like being part of the small team that pretty much single handedly saved the galaxy? part of the team that cut through entire platoons of geth without backup? that has experience with working with a spectre and seeing how they operate? thats already well known by the council and alliance?

i dunno. i think they're pretty worthy.

I'm about as grown up as I can get without dying of old age, little lady. And does Ramirez really not know after all the times we've tangled that I'm female? Ginseng.

What this discussion is about, is about as ridiculous as you can get. People are basing their arguments on player knowledge, knowledge of events not in evidence from the Council's viewpoint, and based on SHEPARD'S point of view. Shepard ain't makin' the call here. So I really think it's all the kiddies who are abusing asterisks who really have some growin' up to do.

@clonedzero You are also forgetting the extraordinary feats that only SHEPARD did (Akuze, Torfan, and/or I think another place). Also, the Council did not see the hordes of Geth that they cut down, so I don't think that's evidence (we know that they did help beat all those Geth, but we also know that there is no recorded evidence of it).

Because being a Spectre (amongst other things) makes Shepard unique. Special if you'd like.

Also, there is nowhere that it is stated that the VS has medals.

Well, Kaidan's picture is on Anderson's desk. I'd say that at least "implies" the Captain Anderson Seal Of Approval™, which should carry a lot of weight with the Council, regardless of whether he is a Councilor or not.

Oh look, you completely missed the point. There it goes, catch it if you can!

The point isn't my hyperbolic illustration of medal ownership on the VS's part, only that they've been doing what they're supposed to be doing all this time that Shepard's been dead/comatose/a terrorist. Why wouldn't the Council want one of humanity's shining examples of Doing The Right Thing While Not Being A Terrorist™ as a Spectre candidate?

I'm honestly not sure if I'm for or against the idea of the VS being a Spectre. It's kind of double edged for the same reason, we don't really know what they've been up too for the two plus years since Shepard's "death". Other then being sent to Horizon undercover to investigate rumors that Cerberus was behind the missing colonies. If Bioware gives a reasonable back story for how and why they were made Spectre's I can accept it, but it if just feels tacked on with no real back story or explanation then I would be against it.

granted. its still a well known fact that ashley / kaidan served with shepard and SAVED THE GALAXY with a small ragtag team. that is alot bigger than akuze torfan ect.

shepard is known as "the savior of the citadel" in ME2. the surviving alliance member of his team wouldnt be a good political move to make a spectre either?

also, we dont know what sorts of badassery ashley/kaidan has been up to in those missing two years. which i assume theres plenty of it.

why exactly do you think they arent qualified to be a spectre?
