The line about Jack being redesigned is a little worrying, if it's true. I don't mind her wearing some clothes, and maybe having some crazy hair, but the "you can only be punk rock for so long" line is silly. This game takes place a few months after ME2. How much could she have changed? She's not even a particular favorite, but I hope they don't character assasinate her like they did Liara.

No more worrying than their claims about Jacob.

Except they at least backed up the Jack one with a quote from a BioWare source. Let's not let the steam of the rest of the article's awfulness cloud the fact it might have gotten a couple of things right.

Edit: Having now read your comment on the previous page I do agree that it isn't likely to herald some complete change of her personality or something, but it does sound like they are toning down the punk rock look somewhat, unless that changes over the course of development. So yeah, to some it's a fair point to worry over I'd say.

Actually, I think the most likely way to translate that statement from "guarded PR-ese" is "OK, yeah, we know. That bra belt thing was rather silly.  By default, Jack now wears some actual clothing."

Wait a second...

When Bioware says a crew member from ME2 will return, do they mean they'll be in ME3 ONLY IF they survived the Suicide Mission? Or will it be a case of "THEY WILL BE IN ME3  BECAUSE WE SAID SO" and resurrected from the dead Dragon Age 2 style.

No because I know it would be pointless .  just a little frustrated that there is no info on Miranda yet

I get that she's your favourite character and all that, I do. But information only started getting released about two weeks ago. The Bioware folks have said they don't want to spoil too much about ME3 already, so calm down.

Besides, I'd be willing to bet that Miranda will have a sizeable role, whether she's actually a squadmate or not.

If she is not a squad mate then thats garbage since She cares about Shepard as well. I hope she is a squad mate .  I just want answers and I hope at E3 us Miranda fans get the answer we want.

I hope her and Jacob was sentenced to death and executed just before Shepard's trial.

wat.

I refuse to take them seriously when they say they're playable characters rather than squadmates. Jesus.

The GI article used the same wording (playable instead of squadmates).  The exact quote being: "Characters that BioWare says will be playable to some extent."  I found that wording very odd considering this was about ME3 and not a Dragon Age game (at least DAO...dunno if DA2 still lets you do that or not).  Maybe it was just GI being stupid, but I dunno...

As for this new article, how reputable is PSM3?  Are they known for posting good info or are they the National Enquirer of gaming mags?  Only game mags I'm familiar with are GI and PC Gamer (GamePro if it's still around, too).

Can't remember if there is a direct dev quote stating this, but the Game Informer article heavily suggested it would be the former. In fact everything I can remember reading about ME3 so far seems to be working on the assumption that your squaddies will only return if they are actually alive on your file(no Leliana style returns here). I don't think we can safely assume that will be the case for everyone until we get more information though. I don't see the ME team going that route though, the expectation that our choices will matter is much higher in the case of the ME series.

If they're dead, they're dead.  They've said so many times now. Here's one example from a Casey Hudson interview:

Every time we talked about Mass Effect 2 we would always telegraph the idea that these characters die a permanent death. Even in the game, in the sub-plots where you rescue a cat or whatever, we would telegraph this idea that it might have something to do with who dies in the end.

Also, this from the GI article (not a direct dev quote, but it's pretty obviously info directly from them):

For example, if Garrus died during the course of Mass Effect 2, he hasn't made a miraculous recovery. He's gone.

Can't be bothered reading the thread to see if it's mentioned, but Christina denied the article's claim that there is a melee based class.

The actual tweet:

A few people asking me about a new "heavy melee class". No new classes. All classes have improved melee and a class-specific heavy melee.

So no new classes of any sort, period.

That kind of makes things worse doesn't it?  I was willing to say, bad journalism aside the info could be accurate. But now it looks like these guys were invited in to see or play the demo and just decided to make **** up for their magazine.

Poorly written and now proven completely inaccurate.

And with that, I no longer am going to take anything in this months PSM seriously.

And that's a pretty big strike against PSM in my books, seeing as this is the first time ME will be in their magazine.

(I have the PS3 version)

This is basically what I did reading that page.

Seriously this looks like something I'd expect the more juvenile fans around here to come up with...

All teh sexy female characters are comin back! I don't really like these dudes so they probably won't be coming back.

<_<

I really hope the writer was just talking out of their cloaca, and that this is not how Bioware views things. A character's popularity (based solely on internet polls) is a pretty petty way to determine who should play a role in ME3. Just because a character is less popular doesn't mean they should be exempted from ME3.

The only semi-useful information I was able to pick up out of that was that Ashley/Kaidan is now a Spectre. Although I had suspected as much from ME2, and their ME3 uniforms seem very Spectre stylized being like Tela Vasir's outfit.

Edit: There's also the thing about Jack being slightly redesigned, but that was a given. I basically expect this means she'll likely wear some actual clothes and or possibly have hair. Hopefully something like a Mohawk if that's the case.

The PSM article makes no claim about there being an all-melee class.  They simply state that melee has become more significant and that all classes have their own melee move.

The PSM article does not say there are any new classes - it simply states that melee is more significant and that all the classes have their own melee move.

This, boys and girls, is why most game journalism sucks and is not to be taken seriously. As someone mentioned earlier, it's factually inaccurate and poorly written. The only thing of value in the article are the screen shots, which already appear in the Game Informer (which seems to be a vastly superior publication) piece.

Yeah, the "heavy melee class" rumor comes from a Google translation of a Spanish gaming magazine's ME3 article. No, really: people ran with an automated translation.

As someone in manga fandoms I have seen people be that stupid to take a Google translation for fact.=]
