Besides Zevran, has there been an elf that hasn't been half insane?  We have...whatever her name was... in Awakenings.  She was a murdering lunatic with very few redeeming qualities.  Then, there was Fenris- the emo, mage-hating elf (thank you for giving me the option of killing him btw). Very few redeeming qualities.  Then, there was Merrill who, while cute as a button, was simply an idiot!   Besides that, we are always forced to deal with the racist Dalish in some way, shape or form in every game.

Long story short?  I'm can't stand elves anymore.  For the next game, can we limit the number of elven companions to one (if that)?

Feel free to substitute an elven companion with another dwarf, or quanari.

Sigil was cool. Let me steal her sexay armor, too. :innocent:

Seems they all have too much emo. Zevran, too, but in a good way.

Zevran I stab, makes a good target. Merrill I enjoy. Do I hate them? are they all insane? hardly. Using your yardstick lets get rid of humans as well... let me see, Morrigan (I get crabs looking at her), Wynn the middle class school mistress of boredom, Alister the crying whining crown clown, Liliana and Sebastian, religious zealot pukes. Ms manhands (actually like her :P ) and of course the supreme nut case of the series, that should of been tranquillised, Anders (seriously hated this head case with Fenris the sour sod next. Long story short, I can't stand humans any more. :)

Fenris? Emo? I'm not really seeing it. He's had a legitimately difficult life, in such a manner that's nearly impossible to empathize with. The character is only realistic because of his emotional trappings. I'm sorry if you don't appreciate well-written characters. He hated mages, yeah, but that isn't really a big deal. Tons of characters generalize mages/templars, it's just how they are. It's not like Fenris doesn't have legitimate reasons for his hatred, with his first-hand experiences.

I didn't think that Merrill was an idiot, personally. Don't really know what you're getting at.

Zevran is my least favorite of the bunch. His character doesn't bring anything to the table. It's just... really cliche.

Way to complain about the Dalish being racist in a thread like this, though. classy.

On PC there is some type of loop thing that happens when I betray Fenris. After 1st betray fast travel to hangedman during day where ' D' is not visible but if you stick to the options from first time events play out and you get the 850 xp and 5 gold plus max Anders Approval and max rival from all others. This can be repeated as many time as you like. One game I upped 3 levels and had approx 300 gold from this. After you can choose to keep Fenris and there is no fight. I made Fenris say "What!!!????!!!" about thirty times once. First "oh wonderful" then betray.

I wouldn't mind playing a DA game without an elven companion. I liked both Zevran and Fenris, but Dalish elves ****** me off. I highly doubt Bioware would make a game without a Dalish clan you have to deal with, but I do agree with the OP. City elves are fine, but Dalish... just way too arrogant and racist for my taste.

I did play my DAO as a dalish elf. That arrogance and racism could be viewed as a reaction to an action really.

I sort of look at em like outcast gipsies, and qunari are like the victims of orientalism in medieval times. The game goes a bit out of its way to force these responses from players but according to everything I've seen on the forums "that" is exactly what they(developers) wanted to.

I do not agree with it however, too forceful and directed. The intelligence behind it is worthy of respect though. I personally would love to see a big main-dalish camp or a qunari city. Observing their own interactions with eachother rather than their reaction to "normal" humans would add a welcome dimension to the universe. Fascinating stuff.

I never understood the attraction people had to Zevran. I hate that backstabbing ******. I wouldn't say any BW character is technically 'badly written', but I hate me some Fenris and some Zevran (Fenris is strangely starting to grow on me though). I love Merrill. Everything about her.

The keeper of the dalish in DA2 seemed pretty sane and reasonable, she wasn't anti-human like the rest of her clan.

Actually, DA2 is the first BioWare game *ever* where I haven't intensely disliked the elves. In BG2, they were allegedly persecuted for being elves, but they were presented as the bestest at everything (yawn). In NWN, more of the same. The Dalish in DA:O was the worst, though. You couldn't take 3 steps without some Dalish getting in your face about how oppressed they were. Made me want to stab Sarel (the Dalish storyteller in Zathrian's camp) in the eye with a fork. By the end of the game, I was ready to tell them that they retroactively deserved all the bad things that happened to them just for being such whiners. And then there was Velanna in Awakenings. I almost didn't buy Witch Hunt because it featured another Dalish, but I went and got it anyway. She wasn't as bad as Velanna, but she was still too beotchy for my tastes.

In DA2, they finally got the elves right. Merrill was adorable. Incredibly naiive, but that added to her charm. The rest of the clan was believable. OK, they didn't trust you and they made no secret of that, but they did not attempt to hold you personally responsible for every crime ever committed against elvenkind. Fenris was refreshing. An elf who did not consider his race the defining part of his identity. OK, like Merrill, he had his faults, but I was willing to forgive them all just because he didn't beat me to death with his elvenness.

So, on the whole, I'm neutral about the elves now. If we don't get any in the party in future games, I'm OK with that, but if they are there, I'm OK with that, too... as long as they have more in common with DA2 elves than with DA:O elves.

Ouch.
But other than the fork part, I agree with you.
