Having used Jacob heavily in a recent playthrough, only thing I can say negative about the character is that the romance with him comes across like bad bar pickup lines from both his and Shep's end. Other than that, the character's solidly fine as team mate and non-romance chatter.

Wow, well, you're entitled to your opinion. I just despise the character, and was expressing my satisfaction with, what is in my opinion, his most timely removal from the Normandy.

Can you detail what it is about Jacob that you despise so much? I mean from what I gathered, he always had Shepard's back. Even from the start when Miranda was very hostile towards Shepard, it was Jacob that calmed her down and assured her that Shepard is on point.

The general hate for Jacob stems from the fact that he's literally just a security guard who happened to be at the right place and time and stuck around for no adequately explained reason. That coupled with the fact that he's a plain normal guy who refuses to talk about his past..... well let's just say he doesn't have much going for him.

Oh lord a squadmate who DOESN'T burden Shepard with his problems?! KILL IT WITH FIRE.

+1 Jacob is awesome.  The people who hate him are the ones who played FemShep and got that weird dialog between the two.  BLAME Jennifer Hale for reading her damn lines that way.

I never understood WHY so much hate. I understand that he's not very charismatic, so it's difficult to like him - just as it is difficult to DISLIKE him. He's the supreme "meh" in ME. But he's got some nice abs, so I'm sympathetic. Just like that.

But aside that, I feel that it would be unfair with those who romanced him that he's just a cameo in ME3. Just sayin'. (I ALWAYS romance Kaidan, so I'm not talking about something that would matter to me personally)

I think it's largely because people feel that their Shep acted out-of-character around him, so they hate. Even around Kaidan, my Shep rarely crossed the line of "haha, are we flirting? ARE WE?"
