What if Obsidian took over the Dragon Age series?

Well, though I wouldn't want to see anyone but Bioware do Dragon Age, in Obsidian's defense with KotOR 2, LucasArts moved the deadline up on them six months, from a summer release plan to a Christmas release, with a "Make the deadline or lose the license" ultimatum. So, it was release it half finished or not release it at all and lose all the money they'd invested in it, possibly going bankrupt. At least, that's the story they told on their website... if it wasn't true, would have opened up a defamation lawsuit for LucasArts, would it not?

And LucasArts IS sue crazy; hell, they sent "cease and desist" orders to NWN modders who added lightsabers to their mods.

DS3 is a hack and slash game , it's very different from what DA2 was pretending to be.
5 endings for a hack and slash is above and beyond. For a CRPG it would be an expectation.

That just says your opinion on what is a good game is based on your expectations. Why can't a good game just be a good game free of any expectations? If your willing to accept and enjoy the lack of customisation and tactical game play in DS3 why shouldn't you accept and enjoy how DA2 has changed over DAO.

Yeah let Obsidian not finish a sequel to a Bioware game again.

That sounds like a good idea.

Well like Bioware did with Dragon Age 2 they rushed it because the big guys made them. With the community updates that restored the cut content it really is amazing.

But no. I didn't like Fallout NV...then again I hate Fallout 3. I didn't like Alpha Protocol. I really was hoping for it to be good. Kotor 2 was good with the community updates probably better then 1. The influence system was pretty great.

To me the only good game from Obsidian is KoToR2. Despite it being rushed, I thought it was well done enough. But if you played any other of their games, you know they are not capable of play testing their games and polish is a dirty word. Just look at Alpha Protocol and you can see just how much fail that game is. Dungeon Siege 3 is looking it is worth a try, but maybe after 3 - 4 patches.

I wouldn't mind if they made a few spinoffs to give Bioware more time to develop the main games. For example, Obsidian could have done a prequel game to Origins, like something set in the distant past. This way Bioware wouldn't be so rushed to release new games in less than two years. Two years should be the bare minimum development time for sequels

Depends if it's glitched to hell and back or not. Every other Obsidian game seems to be so I would wait after 3-6 patches before buying it.

I wish they had released Kotor 2's original darker ending.

Obsidian are the 'fillers' of the gaming industry now I guess.

Agreed, agreed, agreed.

I see some here say "yes" because of the Black Isle Studio relation since some of the members are carry-overs. I can put it this way, it's like someone talking about converatives and the great values they stand for. I only found that conseratives never have been how conservatism has been defined. They are not the same and Vegas was atrocious, if even being gracious about it.

I still want to gouge my eyes out with hot pokers when I remember suffering through that game.  Pain is, after all, relative.

Wow!, Ok, then if you ever play a game of that low caliber again, can I have your maingear, since the visuals of any game thereafter would be meaningless to you?

"Giggling" is as about as mad as my wife could ever be, seriously. She's too buddhist to get mad and very accepting of any donations to her loyal spouse .

If Obsidian made DA3 I would have no interest in playing it. Flawed though it may be, DA2 was more fun than not, and I welcome Bioware's follow-up provided they take their time and release it when it's as good, or better, than DA:O.

I would love to see Obsidian pick up the DA series in some respect. At least to me, it seems like the release of DA2 really split the fanbase down the middle. BioWare can continue the story arc they began in DA2 and keep all their changes (or lack thereof), while Obsidian can make the successor to DA:O. It would mean more DA games that play to two different tastes. Everyone wins, I think.

Obsidian also have some great writers, so if they're actually given a manageable timetable to work with (which would be a first) they could turn out a fantastic addition.

No. Obsidian would only make things worse with their track record. Remember the 'sequels' that Obsidian made in the past? Yeah, I don't think anyone would want to go back to 'that'.

I would love to go back to KotOR 2, Mask of the Betrayrer and Fallout: New Vegas. They were fine games.

What the hell is wrong with the people who think NWN1 is better than 2?!

NWN1 may possibly have if not the worst single player campaign in cRPG history.

And i would rather have a buggy game that has great gameplay mechanics and writing over Bioware's buggy, lazy and uninspiring game which DA2 was. Obsidian actually releases patches and worthwhile DLC if they can. Not like Bioware's stance to patch to a certain point then quit like Origins and then release stuff like Witch Hunt and charge for in-game weapons and armor.
