"Attack nearest" isn't attack nearest. It's attack what you were last locked onto. And if what you were last locked onto teleports your character stands there with their hand in their pants. This is abundantly clear in the Danzig fight, the chapter 3 dragon fight, and in plenty of other key encounters. Playing at higher level difficulty settings invariably means pinpoint pointing and clicking with this nonsense.

Yes this is annoying. Considering the character will keep on attacking the enemy it's latched on to anyway (with auto attack on) I fail to see why we need a button to do the very same thing. A button that attacked the nearest enemy would be very useful.
