Just finished my billionth play through the original Mass Effect to import a soldier into the second game when it suddenly hit me...If you saved Wrex he should somehow become a council member in the third game. If not Wrex than Garrus because both of them appear(ed) in all three games. Granted the turians, asari, and salarians might be more intellectually capable but I think having a rugged krogan up there in a robe being a politician would be crazy! Let me know what you guys think.

Sorry, but Wrex and Garrus would be horrible Council members. While I respect the choices he's made with Krogan, Wrex immediate sought complete control. I'm pretty sure he's not good at compromising.

Garrus is essentially the Turian version of Anderson aka too emotional and viewing everything in black and white. Politics is not the career for him.

Good point but I was thinking a little more like this:
Wrex- Strong willed, determined, supportive of his people, stands against evil
Garrus- Witty, loyal, problem solver, looks for options that
don't require a gun but will use one if he has to

Fair enough, but I think if they were to become Councilors they'd end up like Anderson, banging their heads against the wall. Part of being a good councilor though is being able to be a good politician. Garrus hates bureaucracy and Wrex is more of "Follow my orders or die" leader.   :P

Wrex would be a culturally appropriate Krogan council member, I think. He has shown that he's willing to work with other races, and his leadership style among his own people is completely appropriate to them, culturally. That said, he's needed on Tuchanka, I don't think you can effectively head a race's main government and be Councilor at the same time.

Plus......Tell me you would not want to see a cut scene where Wrex whips out a pistol from under his robe and pops another council member!

Wrex needs to stay on Tuchanka to keep control of the krogan. The moment he went off-world it seems that there would be a race for his seat of power.

I vote Conrad Verner for humanity though! (EDI: That was a joke)

Out of all the Krogan, Wrex would probably make the best council member. That said, I don't think there is a role for a Krogan Councilor. Even if they were offered a seat, I feel like as a people they would refuse it. They need to focus on their own people. That doesn't mean they can't have an Alliance with the Citadel Council, however.

The Krogan make sense as a doomed race. Their nature is so aggresive and undisciplined that if they ever become unified and stable enough to join in the council, they will inevitably start conquering colonies in council space. Every one of them is born to fight, like orks. That leaves them out of the pristine, civilized council.

On the other hand, they're not savage enough to be hunted down like the Rachni or the Vorcha. They are sentient individuals with hopes and independent intelligence, so they can't be treated like a pest.

If you want to present the Krogan as part of the good guys, you have to make them a weakened race, incapable of anything more than a fragile internal organization.

As they are now, yes. I could see them stabilizing, though that stability would be something akin to the Klingon Empire - scary at first, but eventually reasonable.

The Krogan remind me more of Kingons than Orks, fundamentally, For one, they're not stupid. For two, they're not enjoying this as much as they would be, if they were Orks. Orks don't care if they can't have kids, or their race is dying. Heck, I think they'd barely notice. (Of course, asexual mushroom reproduction will do that for you. But hey! Onward!)

The Krogan are kind of a human history joke. Their society got as far as 20th century humans, technology-wise, had a global thermonuclear war, and ended up living in a Mad-Max-style post-apocalyptic wasteland for centuries after - not an uncommon vision of the likely human future. Dismissing them as fundamentally too warlike to be allowed to increase in population is a trap, straight out of 60s irony-based SciFi. Pan the camera back and Rod Serling will say "but could the same not be said of us... from the perspective of those most peaceful of aliens who inhabit... the Twilight Zone."

All that aside, I'll agree that they're definitely not ready to return to full breeding strength yet. But there are so many with potential - Wrex, sure, but also half the Krogan you talk to on Tuchanka show some level of interestingness, of more-ness. I think you might be able to make a Krogan colony out of less inherently aggressive Krogan, and, if things go well after a few centuries, gradually start to reduce the efficacy of their genophage. I do realize this dances on the borderline of mad social science, and I apologize, I have a tendency that way. I could also see Krogan society reshaped in such a way that all violence is directed internally, rather than externally. Honor their traditions, while keeping the rest of the galaxy out of them.

Then again, I'm one of those who advocate for a sub-council, made up of the ambassadorial races: The Volus, the Elcor, and the Hanar. Possibly the Quarians and Krogan, too, if we can swing it. This sub-council would have a vote equivalent to a single council member, or something like that, in cases where they could reach a consensus.

The Krogan probably won't get a seat on the council until they are a unified race, and there are others who eagerly would be glad to be on the council and are politicaly more reliable at this point.

The reaper attack will however change buisness as usual, maybe in the course of the game we will be able to help Wrex (or Wriev) to unite the Krogan (maybe even cure the Genophage), who then will be a strong ally against the reapers and may earn a seat on the council, but not until the end of the game.
In this scenario however, I'd rather see Wrex stay on Tuchanka as a strong Leader of the Krogan than a councilor!

Garrus hates politics and red-tape so you want to make him a politician?

Garrus would absolutely hate that. Wrex.. maybe.. but as CGG says, he is better suited to working on Tuchanka for now.

Gatatog Uvenk seems like he'd have fit in perfectly on the council.

I approve.  The council needs a swift kick in the derriere.  "A krogan could be useful."
eCookie for whoever gets this reference.  Should be an easy one if you're a real fan.  :wizard:

I can imagine a scene set 20 years in the future with Commander S'hop'erd of the Raloi Alliance pleading the Council to stop the Combine-Harvesters from destroying the Galaxy. The council is made of 10 members, some physically present while others like Wrex in hologram form as they are on the home-world. They listen to the Commander and then....

Councillor Wrex: AH YES! Combine Harvesters! We have dismissed that claim!
Councillor Septimus: Hey! That's a Turian thing... only we get to dismiss claims!
Concillor Jack: Hey Larry & Curly! Shut the hell up!!
