So, in regards to the whole Leliana being alive scandal, I keep seeing people argue that "I decapitated her!" is canon.

I always respond that it's just a flashy game killing animation that is there for fun and should not be considered canon. Her death yes. Her head flying off, no.

I humbly request clarification from the Arishok developers.

Also people are calling this a retcon. It's not a retcon if there's an intended explanation on how she was revived. Seriously I'm getting pissed off at all these "retcon" shouters/ "decapitation is canon" shouters.

And just for the hell of it, let's discuss the awesomeness that is Leliana.

It's already been explained by a dev that there is a reason she's come back from the grave, that the reason won't be prematurely announced, and that we're free to think it's a good/poor reason when it's revealed.

So if you want to know what the mysterious reason is here in your post, you won't get it. :P

That's not what he's asking. He's asking whether the decapitation (as opposed to just the death) is "real."

Why only one dev?

I've been seeing it everywhere that decapitations are canon. It's pissing me off.

I already knew, and accepted, that Leliana's survival will be explained. I never killed her off because there is no justifiable logic to bringing a devout Andrastian to an Urn that you're going to defile.

Sure there is.

There's deaths I can see coming back from even less than decapitation anyway.  Like shattering.  Unless she's a terminator.  ....  Ohhhh.  :(

Sure there is.  If said Warden hates Andraste enough to defile her ashes, surely he hates her enough to provoke a devout worshipper.  Not saying I agree with it, but it makes perfect sense.

well when you put it that way....

but anyway yea. once you agree to Kolgrim's offer, nothing makes sense to bringing Leliana to defile it.

Not really. A dwarven Warden could care less about the religion. Doesn't mean he hates Andraste.

And I should say that nothing justifies it unless you're playing a Warden that hated Leliana from the get-go because she was so pushy and you wanted her dead. Then you get your chance to shove a sword of mercy through her heartPosted Image

Irony FTW!!

If the devs say the decapitation is just flashy animation fluff and not meant to be taken as something that could happen in anyone's canon, I'd consider that itself as something of a retcon.

And no need to get seriously pissed off about it. It's not like I really care. And even if I did, why should you care that I care? And I don't care even if you care that I care. So there.

Doesn't she know even if you dont bring her along? Doesn't she attack or leave your party when you talk to her in camp, or whenever?

Or you did, but decided that bringing a devotely religious woman to watch one of the most holy relics in her faith be destroyed would be jolly good fun. Granted, you'd have to be either a sadist, someone who genuinely hates Leliana and/or the Andrastian faith, or one of those people who think being the player character automatically means you can get away with pissing off your companions without serious consequences, but that matters little in the grand scheme of things. xD

well yea. but you can intimidate her into standing down I think. I don't know, I always preserve the thing, only because none of my Wardens are going to take advice from an insane man who knows nothing about magic, claims he does, and in the summertime drinks blood to cool off.

Ah, gotcha.

Pfft. The epilogues aren't canon anymore, so why would a non-cutscene decapitation be any different?

I wouldn't. It was there as a way to have cool kills. And when you see these claims of canon kills in almost every thread, it gets annoying.

But I do care that you don't care if I care that you care, even though you really care about me caring. So why don't we just stop caring before our caring makes everybody care about stupid little things?

I know Wynne gets pissy about it. But when she leaves I get sad because she usually takes my Robes of the Witch with her. *sigh* Her magical bosoms are fantastic.

Oh the things I'd do to her and Dr. Chakwas.Posted Image

I killed Leliana once just because I have video game OCD and have to try everything at least once. I ended up beheading her. I think she's hiding some necromancy-style neck stitching under heavy makeup :D

DA3 - Wynne reappears and no longer has magical bosoms!

That would be a retcon. One that constitutes cruel and unusual punishmentPosted Image

Especially to ZevranPosted ImagePosted Image

Pfft, we all know that if it's written in a game it must be true and not subject to rumors or downright misinformation. Just look at all the codex entries by Genetivi, the man obviously knows his ****.

Zevran violated my canon Hawke and harassed my Wardens. He had that visual retcon coming.

Genetivi is a beast. Fact.

Survives an (edit: Nevermind, make that several) encounter(s) with the Dalish, has a good deal of knowledge about the inner workings of the Circle, and among other things even got to see the ashes of Andraste up close and in person. Why aren't we playing a game about him instead?
