actually you do. Once you reach the mountaintop where the High Dragon is, you can switch party members. You also do know that there are people trying to kill you because you're investigating the Urn (Weylon and the cultists at the Lake Calenhad docks).

You know there are people trying to stop the Knights from finding the Urn.

You do not know specifically that they are Dragon Cultists.

You do not know specifically that there is a High Dragon up there.

You do not know specifically that Kolgrim will ask you to defile the Urn of Sacred Ashes in order to get "dragon" power.

Switching out Leliana once you get to the High Dragon is not a loreable (is that even a word, lol) reason, as only 4 of you went up the mountain. What, do the others teleport in?

So what's the excuse then? Leliana wasn't really killed by the Warden because right before they went into get the ashes, Leliana decided to stay outside and keep watch?

For all intensive purposes it's the same thing.

When you're setting off on the Sacred Ashes quest, you don't do it knowing that there are Dragon Cultists up there who want you to defile the ashes. That's something you find out while you're there. And you don't have the option of sending her away while up there.

Maybe you just didn't try hard enough.

Warden:  Damn.  Leliana, I've got a serious case of the munchies and I left the ration pack back at camp.  Be a dear and go grab it?
Leliana:  This wouldn't have anything to do with that unholy offer you just took would it?  You're not going to defile Andraste's ashes while I'm gone?!
Warden:  No, no, nothing like that.  The Maker told me to.  Through that plant over there.
Leliana:  But that plant is dead.
Warden:  Yeah, it was alive a few minutes ago.  The Maker killed it.  That's his way of telling someone to endulge in peanut buttery goodness.
Leliana:  I see.  I'll leave right away then!

Yes, I got the joke. :P

not loreable? That's like saying Shale knowing you've met Caridin when she wasn't in your immediate party to Caridin's forge is not loreable.

You know, there is the explanation that you're traveling with all of these people as your companions everywhere you go and you've only picked the people who are in the front lines, while everyone else is in the back, though unaware of your decisions until afterwards. Which makes 100% sense because you're not going to ask someone to guard camp if camp is constantly changing and you're guarding it when you're all sleeping there.

What you're saying is like saying that FFX's companions just magically pop in when you switch your party up. They're all traveling with you wherever you go. Who you're seeing is just who's up front.
