A new short story about Anders, by Jennifer Hepler. Doesn't really help him any.

Does Bioware have it out for Anders now?

If you never played Awakening you'd never have encountered Anders before the sociopath version shows up in DA 2. This fits DA 2 Anders like a glove.

Who is Jennifer Hepler and is this fan fiction? If so, don't get upset over it - fan fiction is usually ridiculous.

Oh and bear in mind it's not all Ander's fault that he's a loony now. He got Justified.

*not sure if serious*

Jennifer Hepler wrote Anders, and she did a fantastic job with him.

Jennifer Hepler is the person who wrote Anders in DA2

I don't think it qualifies as fanfiction if she actually wrote the character.

I don't know all of the writers or those credited to certain things yet. So yes, I was serious.
In that case, I will read this story as for me it will feel... well, 'real'.

Okay. I thought maybe it was some snide "Jennifer Hepler is a fifth-rate writer who ruined Anders" post, but I'm glad that wasn't the case.

That story is the same story that was released for Valentine's Day, though, so it might not be new to some people.

Did she write for him in Awakenings as well?

No, that was Mr. Gaider. There's a thread about it in one of the lower sub-forums, and Mr. Gaider has a few replies if you're interested.

I'll take a wee read of it properly later (the thread) as I did have a look before but only skimmed. Finished reading the story which was lovely.

I think what most people are freaking out about is that they think the change didn't make sense, like how Merrill suddenly has a Welsh accent. Personally I think they're underestimating the kind of change the spirit of Justice would cause and what sort of control Justice has over him. To me it seems that Justice still lives but in a different form, wrapped all up in Ander's all too human feelings.

I was disappointed at first when I realised that he wasn't all funny and quirky any more yet after a little while I came to appreciate what was gained through it, mainly him having a bit more depth to him. It's not surprising he's lost a lot of his jocular nature, considering what he's been through.

I wouldn't say they had it in for him. Seems like they've turned him into a serious and important character. Of course, I've yet to see him past Act 2/3. Due to waiting on patches. Something may change my mind.

That's how my brain gets around it; my (final) Warden is Noble Female QUEEN OF FERELDENZZZ (still all smug about that). I had played the Dalish origin through but that was only once and had more or less forgotten about Merrill before re-joining this site to sob about DA2 not working right for me.

Anders died in Awakening and he possibly died in DA2. I wonder how'd they explain him surviving next time.

He doesn't necessarily die in Awakening and it would have been permissable to use Justice as a scapegoat for his coming back to life if it hadn't been for the fact that they use magic or whatever as a reason for another major character's miraculous recovery. In my opinion, anyway.

Oh, they didn't use Justice as the reason? Odd.
See, Anders did not die for me so I didn't know that.
I agree about Leliana as I've already stated.

Hahaha@ Ser Pounce-A-Lot as a kitty mage. I was sad that he wasn't with Anders. :[
