The whole asari race is plain fanservice for males.

Nonsense, I enjoy them just as much and I'm female. >:3

In fact, in a way, asari are probably more appealing to me than a male. But I'll leave that sentence annoyingly without explanation.

Should we be facepalming or should our jaws hit the floor?

It's actually a somewhat serious explanation, even though I'd intended my previous post as a joke.

Since men can procreate with human women just fine, the appeal of asari to human women of a particular sexual persuasion is a bit more profound. For some women, mating with an asari would give them the chance of a child they wouldn't normally have.

The prospect of that is rather appealing. ;)

Next thread....

"Do the Asasri have nipples?"

"Do the Asari have vertical lips?"

"Do the Asari have menopause?"

"Do the Asari have hair.... anywhere?"

You don't even have to be "of a particular sexual persuasion" to find the concept appealing. There are women who would like to have kids that are theirs, but don't want to go through the pregnancy and childbirth process. Its more personal than adopting a kid, but a whole lot less trouble than giving birth to one.

As for Asari with boobs, there is prescedent for all-femal species who give birth without invervention right here on earth. From wiki:

Parthenogenesis is a form of asexual reproduction found in females, where growth and development of embryos occurs without fertilization by a male.

To all but the second.

Yes - if they have breasts, they'll likely have nipples.

No - they don't have the reproductive system to warrant menopause.

No - it's unlikely they have hair anywhere hidden since they don't have any in exposed areas.

@Nerevar: True enough, and for infertile men too I imagine.

Well first of all, the asari are based off the 'green skinned alien' stereotype of star trek and many other sci-fi, the sexy alien girl basically. They are basically a bit of fan service and there may very well not be any in-universe explanation, I'm certainly not aware of any.

That said, is it ever stated that the Asari don't have breasts for the same reason you stated with humans? Perhaps breast development acts as a signal the individual is sexually developed to bear a child or is even used for feeding, has it ever been stated otherwise?

Same goes for the bellybutton. In the absence of any other explanation I always assumed Asari gave birth like human's do. The mating process may be vastly different, but that doesn't mean birth is much different.

Asari menopause is an interesting concept... The presence of a belly button indicates an amniotic sac used during the reproductive process, not unlike humans. Also, like humans, asari aren't able to reproduce until they reach 'maturity' (i.e. enter the 'matron' stage). Presumably, if there is a beginning to a biological process, there must also be an 'end' to it, but where would that end be? Benezia was pretty damn old when she had Liara, and if she hadn't reached the end of her fertility, it's entirely possible that they simply remain fertile for the rest of their life.

The larger question is this: why is the majority of the galaxy bipedal and roughly humanoid? Way to drop the xenomorphic ball, Bioware!

Well you have the Rachni , The Elcor have to walk on ther feet and hands, and the hanar. As far the non sapients, You have the Verren, the horse looking things, those dragon looking things from Overlord, and the Klaxon I'm pretty fine  with the Xenomorphic ball.

Same reason humans have them, I presumed. Is there anything in ME that conflicts with this?
