um... how can a volunteer moderator be a volunteer moderator without first volunteering themselves.  Someone else has to volunteer them?  Then they aren't really 'volunteer' moderators.  someone else volunteering them would make them more 'representative' or 'selected' moderators... or maybe just moderators.  But saying that you can't be a volunteer moderator because you 'asked' to be one is silly nonsense, imho.

As for the topic of this thread.  I often thought how kewl it would be to have the title 'moderator' under 'Jax Sparrow' but then I thought about how many 'Iwasdrunkbro' I would have to deal with and that wiped out any desire I had generated.  So to those who decide to limit the dredge in the forums? much love and happiness to you all because you are far more compassionate than I.

Sure, someone can ask to be a mod all they want but if they ask in a public thread and have quite the record of trolling and being offensive, people are going to call that person out on that.  I think it's already been stated though that volunteer mods are chosen because they have a clean record as well as a history of reporting troubling threads to existing moderators.

Edit:  And volunteer means not getting paid to moderate too.

Oh, I haven't been saying anything about it being boring. People have asked me why I quit. I've told them all that it's because the **** isn't worth it. It's not. It's not worth it to be made to feel like crap for something you're volunteering to do.
