It's not an assumption, it's a fact.  D&D tropes are worse than any other tropes.  I disagree with your definition of tropes as well.  You can use a technique several times, it's when it's done to death it becomes a trope.

You're confusing the terms trope and cliche.

Based on the conditions you put forward "less sales by appealing to new players," the better choice is to aim for the pool of new players--- they aren't caught up in having BG and NWN recycled and won't fill the forum with doom and gloom when they don't get their way.

That's what they tried to do and ignoring their core has caused a sales flop. (I've never played BG or NWN, by the way.)

Not making anything up. DA2 hasn't sold even half of what Origins did according to VGchartz, and while the numbers they provide aren't ironclad, the same methods of data collection were used for both and thus the margin of error should be similar. Also, companies don't do damage control interviews and give away games when sales are going strong.

Seriously, kid. The quote button; use it.

And no "r00fles" this time? Did you finally decide you want to pretend to be a grown-up so people will take you seriously? *headpat*

Why do you lie so much? It's really embarassing. And, if DA2 sales are elss than DA1 it is because out of the 3.5mil peoplem who bought DA1 only half of them enjoyed it so why would all the haters bother with DA's sequel? Afterall, majority of people who played DA1 coulldn't even bother finishing it. HA!

Tsk Tsk, our little boy is growing up! Soon you will even be picking out your own clothes and dressing yourself in the morning, hopefully after that we can get you potty trained.

Not much to say, I don't play first person shooters at all or pokemon type of games. What's the point of stats? I think toilet paper sells better than CoD.

I mostly play adventure, strategy and role-playing games.

You really are the lousiest troll on the forum. Let's see some effort!

Calling someone a liar for and then inventing facts yourself (bolded parts), talk about irony. Could you provide a link to prove your claims? Everwarden could simply link VGcharts, the task to prove that data belongs to them, not him. While they don't deliver precise numbers, they give us aproximates, since the same measurement method was used for both DA2 and DA:O.

Any Christmas boost can easily be offset by the sheer amount of AAA competition DA:O had - Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2, FIFA 10, Halo 3: ODST, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Borderlands, Forza 3, L4D2.

What AAA competition does DA2 have exactly?

Games from 2-5 years ago that are still 10x better!

You know, everyone talks about the customers but I want to consider stores too.
Those sellers must be mightily p****d off in their own right that they're having to get rid of those useless copies by selling them at 10$ and presumably losing a lot of money in the process.

I bet when the next Bioware game comes out they won't be so eager to place their orders...

You know, I was disappointed that I didn't had the chance to buy a good RPG (and I *won't* buy this, uhm, "thing", not even for 5$), but I'm taking as an adequate surrogate (recreation-wise) the chance to witness Laidlaw's demise as it unfolds.
It's satisfyingly entertaining, really.

Well, a lot of us are here for the drama (and hypothetical Dragon Age 3 improvement, spiced with some DA2 ****ing :D).

At the character generation screen I put all my skill points into "Sarcastic Ass". And I don't have any problem with you either, personally. I just happen to think you are about as wrong as one can be regarding the rushed turd (I just got a mental image of EA Brand Ex-Lax when I typed that) that is DA2.

HAHAHA good one your post implies there's a third stat worth investing points into

Looking good there ~ just those nostalgic BG2/DA:O gamers that aren't getting it.

Dragon Age 2 makes Origins look antiquated in comparison. It's just that nostalgia geeks want to re-experience the same rehash of a game from a decade ago over and over.

Hey! don't say that, you will break the neat little argument that the yay side have to invalidate the nay sides criticism.

Genuine query, where can we get reliable figures?

Bioware headquarters.

Unless they release some, all of this is guess work at best.

According Bioware, DA2 sold 1 million copies in 2 weeks, vgcharts shows sales in two weeks to be around 883k, and since that doesn't include digital sales it doesn't seem to be that much off.

So I'd like to believe there is some basis in truth in these vgcharts figures.
