So... how do I do it?

Since the Shadow Broker bug I have seen numerous advices telling us we should backup our saves, which is pretty sound advice. How the hell does one do that, though? The standard "copy to USB device" doesn't work and I don't really feel like signing up to Playstation Plus just to back up one or two EA games.

My PS3 comitted suicide last wednesday and about the only thing I hadn't backed up yet were those damn ME2 saves. I'm just hoping to find a way to transfer them when I get the old PS3 up and running for one last breath.
