Anyhow what do you think? Plan on getting BF3? Miss the original Battlefield? What say you?

BF3 is a preorder for me. It's shaping up to be the pinnacle of FPS gaming. I might even buy a new computer when it rolls around because it looks like it's going to push the PC hardware to the limits. Massive battles with team/squad based fighting, vehicles like jeeps, boats, tanks, helicopters, jets, and destructive envionrment! It doesn't get much better. I'll be curious if they bring in the Commander slot from BF2.

My Body is ready!!! The Launch trailer made me pre order it lol . I was hesitant after the CTD during the beta but this was the Coup de Grâce.

Between that trailer and the Multiplayer trailer from a little while ago, this game looks amazing. Its a Battlefield game so I don't really care about the single player, but the facial animations are fantastic in that trailer.
I didn't really care much for the Beta until they opened up Caspian Border. Thats what sold me. Hopefully the launch goes relatively smoothly.

This is the first really big title that uses DX11 in all it's glory. Civ 5 also had some nice DX11 usage, but it wasn't nowhere near as big a title as BF3.

Hmm....I've never been interested in military shooters, but some of those set peices, especially the ones in the cities, look pretty damn cool.

After being impressed by the graphics in all the footage they toted about at all the cons I was somewhat disappointed with the beta on PS3. I had never played BF before and it felt like a looser version of CoD to be honest, just with classes that you edit in matches and a pretty awesome lighting engine. Not sure if I really want it at all, especially since the graphics are waaay better on PC and I like to play on console.
If you only played the Beta on PS3, I'm guessing you only played Rush mode on the Operation Metro map. To me at least, that wasn't anything to write home about.
But when they opened up the Conquest Caspian Border map for PC, that was so much better. Much bigger map with tons of vehicles and so much more freedom. Thats Battlefield. The vehicles and sense of scale is what sets BF apart from the likes of CoD, but the Op Metro map didn't do a good job of conveying that at all.

Do you get to pilot the planes and tanks?
Not sure about the single player but you can absolutely pilot the vehicles in the multiplayer. Thats what sets BF apart, I think- you can control just about any vehicle you see. And thats what makes it so cool- you'll have infantry fighting with guns along side massive tanks, jeeps, APCs, helicopters, jets and even boats.
And in some of the vehicles you can have passengers too- so one person might be piloting a helicopter while you're ferrying other people and you've got people on the door guns too. Or one person driving the tank with another on the machine gun on the top.

You really need a good gunner when you're driving a tank period. Or you end up being so easily flanked. It's pissed me off in the BETA. Until I teamed up with a good gunner that spotted enemy quickly.
Dice said that you will drive many different vehicle in the campaign but the majority of the time will be on foot. They opted for a very Call of Duty campaign but kept the multiplayer madness of their franchise.
ASfter seeing this .. They got me back . I had a bad time after sometime with crashing each frigging minutes. I am not kidding. Sometime I could not even load the game without crashing so I canceled my pre-order.
Caspian border and conquest was awesome. I played it for over 10 hours and had not enough lol . I barely touched the jet because I sucked. i really liked the passenger seat of the choppa but man ... Those engineer with heat seeking bazooka ruled everything.
It's really a team game.
Sniping with bullet drop was fun too lol . My longest snipe was something like 500 m.
Some stuff were over the top though . Like the frigging flashlight.

Can you drive and operate the guns at the same time ? Or did they make it realistic ?
Depends on the vehicle- like with the tanks, if you're the main driver you can also fire the main gun while the second person in the tank will only control the machine gun on the top.
Or if you're in an attack helicopter, the pilot will get to fire the rockets and the copilot will fire the machine gun. If you're driving in a jeep, the driver has to just drive, but the passenger can shoot their weapons and a third passenger can shoot from the mounted machine gun in the back.

They opened Caspian Border to PC beta the last weekend. *That*'s what Battlefield is about -- jets, choppers, AA guns & missiles, jeeps, and tanks.
