I , for one, like when stereotypes are challenged.

I'm grateful that characters like Jacob & Jack made the cut for ME2 ; I wish there were more .I wish they'd be more unorthodox. I don't mind Ash's new look as long as the personality stays there. I don't find her to be the most interesting character in the ME universe, but she felt genuine , and that's a big plus.

I had written a long post about Escapism and self made prisons of "Super models & Steroid junkies" saving the world. I'll spare you guys the none sense.

ME's fallings are usually attributed to being a Space opera ; I can see "looks", as opposed to functionality, playing a bigger role in that genre by default. I'm more of a Sci-fi purist; Ideally , i would turn the gritty realism knob up to 11. But i can handle "junk food for thought" every now and then.

I've once seen a Wrex related hentai pic. Kinda disturbing.

Ontopic: I agree with the OP. Some things were completely out of place in this game. Those high heels, clevages, strap bra's, tight spandex suits and other inappropriate "battle gear" was pretty damn stupid.
My money is on EA for this stupidity. They do want their games to appeal to all kinds of retarded audiences. And unfortuantelly that is where the most $$$ is at.

The most disturbing piece of fanart I have ever seen is Grunt related.

And Garrus.

And Urz.

You know what? Just never use google for images, you'll get more porn than anything else.

What if I told you I once saw something... Thorian-related?

Nah, just kidding, that'd scar me for life.

We could collaborate on a drawing if you want.

*long pause*

I should go.

I'm not too bothered by it if it doesn't interfere with the character. Sadly, sometimes the way people dress and look also reflects how the act. Something Bioware got right because I found Miranda abit bland and annoying, while Ashley was abit stubborn and introvert and Tali was shy and adorable.

In real life I would find a person like Ashley or Tali way more attractive than someone like Miranda. So as far as she goes, it fit the profile as far as I'm concerned.

The only other eye-catching pair I noticed, were the ones attached to Samara, but they didn't seem out of place to me.

I share your concerns unfortunately.
I’m female but I generally think I’m pretty hard to offend with the sexy video game female thing. I actually like Lara Croft...well depending on what game and I actually often like playing a sexy female in a video game. I don’t want to play that all the time but I don’t automatically think its sexist or that its only to appease the male gamer. I don’t gigantic boobs and skimpy outfit thing but that’s largely because I think it looks stupid and unattractive.

Allot of the time the “feminist” ranting over characters often tends to strike me as being more sexist than what they are ranting against. Like for example allot of the sort of things I see surrounding Miranda (not pointing to anyone here, allot of this stuff I saw elsewhere). About how she is a **** and has no worth as a character. I often see comments about how some just didn’t listen to her at all because the moment saw her they knew she was just a “dumb bimbo”. That to me is sexist.

I have no issue with Miranda as a character (apart from finding her mildly annoying but that has nothing to do with her being sexualised) What? a women she isn’t allowed to be sexy and know it? She isn’t wearing a sack so therefore she is only there for amusement and you shouldn’t listen to her? She’s a smart and confident. Good for her. She doesn’t come across as ****ty to me. She isn’t clinging to Shepard and she doesn’t want to jump your bones the instant you talk to her. Her outfit isn’t even that bad. Her top isn’t actually that low and she isn’t exposing much skin. Where it not so tight around the ass it would actually look quite nice IMO and if you found yourself always looking a her ass or boobs and not her face...well maybe thats an issue with you. Not what she should be wearing in battle. Fighting with heals is not a great idea and I would like them to tone back on that sort of thing. Jacob is also wearing a tight jumpsuit and takes his shirt off in his romance scene but I don’t often hear people yelling at bioware for that.

Were it just Miranda it would be fine but it’s not just her. I don’t know ....it just seems to be more prevalent than it was in ME1. My reaction to Ashley’s new look was a bit of an overreaction, because seeing that has made me very concerned that they are going to do this to everyone. Eye candy is not bad; just don’t bombard me with it and sex up characters when it dose not fit and yes this applies to the men too.

Also, yeah. The ps3 comic annoyed the hell out of me.

As much as I appreciate the female form, there is something to be said for function over form. If I'm expected to bring companions into a firefight, I'd rather they not traipse along in their skivvies. On the ship, fine, I can accept it. But not on a combat mission. No cleavage exposed in a vacuum or toxic environment, and please no high heels for the love of all that is sane in this world. So I really hope that our first glimpse of Ashley was not of her in her supposed 'combat' attire.

As a male gamer in his early twenties I agree with the OP's sentiment almost completely. I didn't have as big a problem with Miranda's outfit as some (and the others, although Samara was pushing it considering it didn't seem to fit her character much at all) however at times it was very silly - such as the lack of any serious form of space suit for instance. Afterall skin tight outfits for men AND women are part and parcel of sci fi really hah.

Naturally then I am not particularly worried about Ashley's new look, in fact I think it could look better (the hair at least, but that's personal taste on my part). It really depends on how that outfit looks in it's entirety in the finished game though, heels are a big no no for example. If it's just a combat suit that is tight fitted then who cares? Especially if they have taken onboard the complaints about the immersion breaking lack of proper space wear.

With all that said I completely agree that sexiness for the sake of it, or forcing it even more obviously for titilation to the point of extreme silliness is daft. If the art team who whomever deals with this aspect of the game wants to show off the pretty characters then I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities via romance scenes and whatnot.

In fact I find myself hoping that they will improve upon the companion outfits system seen in ME2 to include (beyond anything else like upgradables) a more unique change of outfit, one that is tougher and less sexualised and one that can be as 'Miranda/Thane'-like as they want. Where appropriate of course.

Just get some armor made purely out of diamonds which is transparent and have the squadmate wear whatever they please underneath it. Best of both worlds.

Her outfit didn't bother me because in my opinion, it fit her profile. That I found her annoying and bland is besides the point, the way she looked and acted was a total picture in which nothing was out of place.

It's not sexist to call out a cheap or too revealing outfit if you find it so.
It's not sexist to identify the way someone acts with how they dress, sure you can be sexy and classy, that doesn't mean the way she dresses/looks doesn't comply with her personality. I'm sure less revealing outfits could fit her aswell. Heck the only thing sexist to me, is calling out sexism when it's blatendly redundant and out of it's place.

Anyways, you are
arguing as if Miranda is an actual person, this post is about a
potential overdose on silly sexy looks and outfits from the developers
side.

I see the question I asked on page 6 still hasn't been answered.  Funny that.

But wow this thread derailed for several pages, but it's back on track now.  But like most problems, this one is only a problem if you let it be a problem.  The easiest thing to do is simply stop caring about it, accept that it is likely not going to change and take to heart that the outfits here are nothing compared to the outfits elsewhere.

I don't mind having sexy characters, but Mass Effect 2 is just overdoing it. Especially when Miranda's fugly ass is in the foreground in 90% of her conversations. When I'm talking to someone, I want to talk to their face, not their ass.

It's just a bad joke at that point.

I agree, the Asari were total fan service of the lowest kind. When I first played ME1, I spent mintes in the Presidium looking for male Asaris. Ash in ME3 has been turned into Mirnada 2,0. I do not approve, even when she isn't alive in my sole save. Jack was enough of a character to be tolerated, and that made her great. If she ends up like Tali, I'll rage.

I completely agree with the statements made in this thread. Still I feel that we as the fans of this series, we are just wasting our breathes. It is all about the "casual gamer" now, and the casual gamer wants boobs and explosions. It is sad. I really am tired of dating simulators. Any interesting traits in a character are just replaced with boobs and seduction. Just look at the first shot of Ashley, she isn't even a soldier anymore. Just another Miranda clone. I think Bioware really needs to look at the direction it is headed in. I am ready for interesting characters again as I am sure we all are.

After a thread was only made 8 hours ago and already has 13 pages, I think devs should at least take a look at this. But part of me feels that they wont and that really makes me feel remorse for the industry. They really need to see the bigger picture. I am going to be so upset if this game ends up like DA2.

The one thing that annoys me most is that game developers often assume the only people that play their games are young, horny males who have never had a girlfriend and probably will never get one.

I do tend to not like oversexualization if, for no other reason, it's immersion breaking. Miranda's white catsuit, for example. That's fine attire for a night on the town, but in combat it'd make more sense if she wore combat armor. Same for Jack.

Well if they had actual armor then the fanboys couldn't lust over their breast.

Miranda's default outfit was by far the biggest eye sore back during my first playthrough(this was before AAP2 came out). There I was trying to create a credible and respectable military servicewoman in the form of my femshep wearing a Cerberus officer uniform only to walk into Miranda's office and see something straight out of 13 year old boy's fantasy. *facepalm*

They created a whole race to appeal to males, namely the asari. Apparently since they added Miranda and Jack with her minibra and all, that wasnt enough... Just make the quarians into lusty purple space elves and the circle is complete. <3

And people arent satisfied with how turian females now look, even, they want them to look sexier(like add some mascara, lipsick, eyelashes and boobs, not to mention silky gowns, they have to look female dont they). Oh lord. Isn't there enough fanservice already in the games?

Miranda was wayy overdone. I mean, does showing cleavage, wearing a catsuit, actually help to stop the reapers? Are they going to not wipe out humanity because she has great boobs? Dont think so.
