While I agree with you, I think that the fact that Jack has 'matured' has the contrary meaning from the one you perceived.

I completely agree with the OP on this one.

"Sexy" characters are not necessarily good characters.

I completely agree. The idea of a more...****ty outfit works for certain characters like Miranda but others like Samara are way off to their real personalities.

Eh, if Jack is going to mature, I'd like her to avoid that stuff. Maybe get close to saying it, and then realizing what she was about to say and scold herself for almost going back to bad times.

I really don't see why people make such a big deal of swearing.

It would be unrealistic if the former convict covered in tattoos with anger issues did not swear.

Actually, i think there should be more swearing.

She'd be swearing even more IF she didn't get better and was getting worse. If she wasn't "maturing" or getting "softened".

But, hey, you have to admit something about Bioware.
Their female characters have personality and smarts, they are not completely (uh, I hate that word, but I'll use it) dumbed down.

Jack being softened and matured makes me believe she might actually decide to wear some clothing this time. NORMAL CLOTHING.

That would be fine, but if she goes all Tali on me I'm killing her ass. I'm less concerned with what she's wearing and more concerned with what they'll do to her character.  A little more social/less ragekill would be understandable since she's foud a place where she can fit in aboard the Normandy, but I'm still expecting something short-tempered and belligerent that curses like a sailor.

And I think Jack would want that.

God I love that Jack's line in Legion LM.

what does she say?

So I'm okay with that. But I wouldn't make assumptions about how the developers see us.

Yeah, I don't want blatant ass shots and sexualization. Yeah, I want it to be more like ME1 which really didn't have any of that stuff.

But I'm not going to assume that the devs feel a certain way. That doesn't really get anyone anywhere.

And hopefully they get rid of some of those tattoos too.

Nah. Let her keep the tats. But obviously, wearing normal clothes would obscure most of them, which I think is a good way to show that Jack is changing.

She doesn't want to show off what she USED to be. Because she wants to change. And Shepard helped her do it, regardless of romancing her or not(cause I will NOT help her if it means I absolutely have to do the deed with her).

I hear you, but the problem with her tattoos that there are so many that you can't distinguish one from another... It kinda looks like a bunch of black paint was thrown on her in some areas. I'm just saying make it so we can.... you know... see them. lol

I love how people scream "extreme" when someone who's brave enough to speak on a topic that makes the other person feel uncomfortable. I don't find it extreme enough. It needs to be said. Heck, even I talked about it in a blog and I went further than the original poster. AdmiralCheez gave you all the rated G version. You don't wanna read my blog about the objectification of women in games. Trust me. lol.

As for Jack, I may not have really LIKED her and her cursing, at times, were ridiculous and she reminded of the brainless broads who cursed to make themselves seem cool or intelligent just to be popular. But, I can tolerate that more-so than I could Ashley (With her predjudice self.). Hopefully, Jack will still remain rough around the edges, but being more mature...I like that. That means she is growing up. Like it says in the good book: "When I was a child, I thought like a child. But, when I became a man (or in this case, woman.), I put away childish things."

If done right, I think Jack will be fine. All I want is for Thane to be in the game. He better be....and I do believe he will be.

There is absolutely no connection between swearing and recovering from trauma.

Her recovery should not involve her speech being overly sanitised.

The game industry definately needs to grow up, but i think we as gamers also have a responsebility to make them aware of things that are not okay, IE women who look like they just jumped out of sports illustrated and humped Lara Croft, so cudos to you sir.. The game industry? You don't think the fasion industry and the movie industry are doing the exact same things?

I hate to be the one telling you christmas isn't real, but portrayed relationships and attractive lead characters is the gaming industry growing up to match the rest of the media.

Oh yeah, I'm not going to go all apesh*t about it quite yet (since this could very well be a good thing and akin to the character development I'm craving), but hearing about it first in that  PS3M article soured my outlook.  I should  be more excited about Jack coming back and less nitpicky about what from she'll return in, but you know...

But, hey, you have to admit something about Bioware.
Their female
characters have personality and smarts, they are not completely (uh, I
hate that word, but I'll use it) dumbed down.

And this is why I've let them get away with it so far.  I love the characters for who they are, not what they dress like, but I'm concerned that what they dress like will not only be given priority over who they are, but start to influence it negatively.

I really shouldn't be worried, but nonetheless I'm keeping my finges crossed.

You seem to think that there is a connection between psycological issues and swearing, that Jacks colourful language is because of her trauma, and that her getting better means she would swear less.

I think this is........well, silly.

The language people use is purely cultural.

The only reason I took Miranda on any missions was when I thought the environment would fiercely punish her for not remembering to get dressed. I loved ME2 as a game, but consistently ridiculously sexed up chars damage it. I share your concern for ME3. I was even OK with Jack and her odd clothes (though you could get her dressed when she was loyal lol) but why the hell can't they put armor on? or space suits even? it took the ******. Still, superficial. If they start sexing up their characters as well... then I will have to return my copy of ME3 and buy skyrim (a major choice from me because I hated oblivion).. so yeah bioware. the average mass effect gamer is not an idiot, and shouldn't be treated as one.. bioware is almost unequaled in character development, they should continue to play to their strengths

I totally agree I hope ME3 won't be another DA2 like I mean Hawke's mom had like D cups WTF
I agree with you on the Asari but I loved them not for their cleavage they were so deep and unique I hated Miranda and her outfit was quite annoying
I keep telling myself bioware will try to make a timeless masterpiece like ME1 again and not sell itself out to some horny boy who wants to shoot stuff up then **** to the babes in the game
look what they did to Liara ...

The character descriptions in the PSM3 article made me headdesk and facepalm simultaneously and I believe are the trigger for the OP's nice little rage rampage, with their concentration on the sexual side of characters, especially the women and ,imo, are more indicative of the magazines target customers than the direction the game is going.

Personally I am not worried. If they write good characters like they have proven themselves to be capable of in the past, I can get past looks that I otherwise might find ridiculous.

"movie industry" Yes it does this too, but the Fashion industry?... No I don't think they send women into combat wearing the kind of clothes Miranda wears...

Wow, the OP should seriously have a chill-pill. Though I do agree with AC, but it's kinda obvious, isn't it?

I mean, what do you expect from a game, really? I think BW still has done the 'sexy' characters quite well, they're smart ans stuff, not just some blonde girl with awesome looks but no brainies
