I'd just like to point out that high heels can totally be a viable combat option... if they're done right!

The folks behind Bubblegum Crisis/Tokyo 2040 are geniuses: Miranda could have her heels and her armor!

The funny thing is using Miranda in your party you see her assets all the time. Bemoaning 3-4 cutscenes in the game where it focuses on some points shouldn't be a big deal. I saw my male Sheps package and rear probably more than that and some of Jacob too. People are making a mountain here.

Isn't there a game that does just that? You know combat in high heels?  Oh yeah Bayonetta. Heard that's a real classy game. Surely makes gaming look more respectable and not just stuff for lonely dudes. Which is what'd you want. Cause the the wider your game's demographic the more copies you'll likely sell! Right?

No?

Actually the ironic thing about people who jump all over Bayonetta as a sex symbol is the fact that she's one of the better realized women in gaming. Bayonetta is a feminist dream actually.

Is she sexy? Sure. But let's be frank, if any woman had the choice, they'd prefer to be sexy rather than not, just as any dude would rather look like Brad Pitt rather than Steve Buscemi.

But the thing about Bayonetta was that she was a character who A) Answered to no man, B) didn't spend a bunch of time getting dolled up for anyone (her look was magic she used to not be naked all the time - in all reality she's wearing her hair transformed), and C) represented a sexual archetype rarely seen in video games.

She's a woman who might use men as opposed to the other way around, and men would actually be afraid of.

So at first she just seems to be your average vamp archetype - but then as the game progresses some interesting stuff happens, some vulnerabilities are revealed, and she gets more human.

She's still over the top in every way, but then again, so is her male counterpart: Dante, a pretty-boy hunk o'man who  . . . wears semi-bondage gear in some of his games so . . .  yeah they're pretty much equivalent (though Dante gets kind of bugnuts crazy by DMC 4).

So yeah -

DID NOT DO THE RESEARCH

Other than that . . . I actually think Ash's new look is more inspired by Joanna Dark.

No... I just think he's overreacting to a single picture.

He claims he doesn't mind if it makes sense for the character. The "sexuality" of all characters make sense for them (except maybe Samara). And because Ashley seems to have a bigger bust than she does with her armor on, he makes it seem like Bioware is making this a porn game or something.

I acknowledged that one picture is a bit much to judge the situation by in the OP.  You people only read every other line these days or what?

Um yes Admiral

*salutes*

They do only look at every other line. I have a bunch of posts in "Fight for the Love" where I state something - then half the "counters" are missing half my points . . .

*bang head against wall*

Also, practical reason not to put too much armor over boobs - don't they like already cause back strain? Making breasts become lode bearing seems painful to a lady's front AND back chestal region.

What does that mean? And what would be the negation of letting them get away with it?

Maybe the whole spandex thing is akin to the idea of always wearing fresh underwear in case you get hit by a car or something and the last thing you'd want is for the people unclothing you on the slab seeing that you're nasty.

So like, she wants her corpse to look as good as possible in case she eats a bullet. After all, she's no Garrus.

Well to be fair, it's the internet, you never know what some people will do . . . or are capable of. It takes a second to learn that BioWare is in Canada, then you find out their address from another site and if you already live kind of close . . .  you just never know what a military officer made out of dairy product is capable of.

as Grampa Simpson once said:

Not only that, but it seems that Sony pissed off some hackers and now PSN is offline until further notice.... So, yeah, people can do things, not saying that the OP is a psychopath hacker, but still....

Anyway, yeah, I am tired of females either having their sex appeal cranked up to level 11 or not being represented at all. Bioware obviously doesn't have a problem with the latter, but I still don't like that they've been leaning on the former to get some sex appeal attention. It's cheap IMO, especially when they didn't even need it in ME1 for the game to become popular. Yes, just because Ashley doesn't look "ugly" anymore doesn't mean that Bioware is selling out, but if they do, I'm not going to be happy.

I mean I didn't get incredibly pissy over it.  I tend to exaggerate for the sake of making my posts more fun to read.

Also, I'm awesome and you're clearly jealous.

What does that mean? And what would be the negation of letting them get away with it?

The degree to which I b*tch and the amount of money I spend on future Bioware products.

Or maybe use my powers of awesome to disable any further game production until appropriate changes are made.

Because I'm awesome.

Others have stated in this thread but it bares repeating, is armor even functional at this level of technology. At the speed bullets are fired wouldn't it turn armor into Swiss cheese and be a medics worst nightmare to try to treat mortal wounds. Wouldn't a high mobile, skin tight, environmentally resistant body suit and portable shield generator be more efficient, like something Tali, Sam Fisher, or Nova would wear?

Not in the environments Shep and co. have been going. Besides, Tali is a special case. Her entire people live in those suits, so they have certain functions like suit seals, special shields, and even in suit medical application.

"Combat hard-suits use a dual-layer system to protect the wearer. The inner layer consists of fabric armor with kinetic padding. Areas that don't need to be flexible, such as the chest or shins, are reinforced with sheets of  lightweight ablative ceramic."

That's all it says in the CoDeX. Basically, "This is armour, yes!"

For the people that are saying that such and such about the game bothers them including the thread starter, I ask this question.
Do you think it's a problem with the game or a problem with you? I vote you.
There's nothing wrong with having sexy looking characters or characters romantically interested in the protagonist.

I never said there was anything wrong with sexy characters.  Also, I'm a big fan of the romance feature, so obviously I don't have much of an issue with that.

I believe you are misinterpreting my complaint.  Basically, enough with the buttshots, and enough wearing heels and spandex in a gunfight.  There really is no need for that.  No need to reduce all the characters to sex symbols, either--us crazy fans do that by ourselves.

I have no problem with fanservice, but it bothers me that a character like Jack, who had a cool and original design, might get a makeover because the fandom can't have a girl without huge breasts and long hair in their game.

... but I need to get this out of my system.

The one thing that annoys me most is that game developers often assume the only people that play their games are young, horny males who have never had a girlfriend and probably will never get one.  Female characters, if present at all, are frequently given over-exaggerated "hot" bodies jammed into revealing and too-tight outfits.

Bioware is no exception, but to their credit they often made a joke out of it to mock their cheap pandering to a seventeen-year-old's erection and backed off on the whole boobies thing when it wasn't appropriate.  For example, take ME1: it had an entire race of sexy babes, but Bioware was able to get away with this because they poked fun at the trope and also gave the asari an interesting culture and deep characters.  There was only one case of extreme cleavage (Matriarch Boobnezia Benezia), and none of the female leads were overtly sexualized (FemShep and Ashley especially were pretty plain in their body-types and never wore anything incredibly revealing apart from certain types of armor that had a tendency to ride up the crack).  So I let them get away with it.

And then came ME2.  Suddenly, boobs, boobs everywhere (plus a few manly bits this go-round: check out Jacob and Thane.  Specifically, check out Jacob's butt, which really is as bad as Miranda's save for it got less screen time).  Now, I didn't complain too much because for the most part it fit the characters and again they mocked themselves for doing it (Miranda's buttshots and her encounter with a certain Eclipse commando).  It only really got stupid when people started running around with naught but a breather mask, and at the very least all the characters were interesting enough as people that I was able to look past the cleavage.  However, Tali's reduction into a "shrinking violet" type of character set off alarm bells in my head, and the presentation of all female characters in Genesis (the PS3 comic) would have made me punch Casey Hudson in the teeth had I not been able to transfer my blame to the Dark Horse team, who tend to kind of suck anyway.  At least they didn't try to sex up FemShep apart from some really agressive flirting which I usually avoided or skipped over anyway.  So again, Bioware got a pass.  A very shaky pass, but at least it wasn't Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive.

But now, looking at the new information trickling in about ME3, I am beginning to suspect things are going to get worse (perhaps better for those of you who play alone and with one hand).  I know we know next to nothing about ME3, but Ashley's new look (sans bun, bigger ******, and a tight body suit) plus their comment about Jack being softened and matured raised a few red flags.  The PS3M article, which I shouldn't pay attention to because it was written by a bunch of very randy morons who didn't bother to do their homework, only made matters worse by reminding everyone how hot and sexy all the female characters are.

Listen, fellas: Jack and Ashley were cool because they didn't conform to the role of typical female lead.  Now, I'm hopeful these two characters will retain their unique (albeit somewhat abrasive) personalities, but after Tali...  I really don't know.

Yeah, I know I'm complaining too much.  But honestly, one of the reasons I enjoy the Mass Effect series is that I can play it without feeling like the developers think I'm some sort of half-wit mouth-breather.  I mean, seriously Bioware, you don't have to objectify your characters when your fans do it for you.  Put what you do best--your characters--first, and save the energy wasted on over-abundant sex appeal for something more important.

And yeah, I know I probably shouldn't be worrying.  I'm sure ME3 will be an awesome game, but nonetheless, consider me mildly concerned.

EDIT: Fixed a typo.  Seriously, "Asley?"  Boy oh boy, I don't even...

They want to make the females desirable.  That is all.

If a seventeen year old really wants to oogle hot chicks there is always the internets. TB upon TB of free hardore porn is available.  Blonde, brunettes, redheads, asian, blakc, indian, arab, gay, straight, transexual, bestiality, young, old, thin, fat, whatever the hell they are into. I highly doubt the Bioware or any other company thinks that anyone is going to buy a video game on the sole basis that Miranda's got a sweet badonkadonk, tight outfit and big ole ******. Jack's lips to Tali's hips and thighs are all meant to identify with common identifiers of beauty. No one wants unattractive characters. But if you do buy it, it makes the romances option more appealing and shapes the way males perceieve the character. It male psychology. There is a reason Thane has the voice he has, dresses the way he dresses. Because it effects the way females perceive him.  It's female psychology.
