Join us, brothers and sisters. Join us in the shadows where we stand vigilant.

A year has passed since the end of the Blight.  Although the archdemon is nothing more than a dark page in history, King Alistair Theirin, Aedan Cousland, and the rest of Ferelden still struggle to rebuild and carry on.  Darkspawn continue to plague the nation, but beyond that, other plots are afoot that threaten Alistair's reign and the peace the Warden and his companions fought so hard to achieve.

Join us as we carry the duty that cannot be forsworn. And should you perish, know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Warden's Vigil is a dynamic, vibrant Dragon Age roleplaying community that has been going strong since February 2010.  Our significant community of active members has started multiple ongoing storylines, with new ones beginning all the time.  We pride ourselves on the quality of the roleplaying experience we offer.

And that one day we shall join you.

I was tempted and have just spent an hour looking over the website. Verdict? Too male-centric for my tastes, awesome Aedan and Fergus, Alistair alone. Read through key events nothing initiated by female characters... Pity.

Of the canon characters only Anora and Wynne are female, Anora is a baddie and Wynne appears to be ineffective.

Happy to be disabused.

And women can be no taller than 5'10"? o.O Seems... like an unusual restriction. Was there really a plague of 6' amazons?

Just so you know, the majority of players on the site are female. We are most certainly not male centric.

One of our most recent plots, an assassination attempt on Fergus Cousland, was initated by a female city elf.

Leliana is incredibly active on the site, and spent most of the last year running an intricate plot that moved from Ferelden to Orlais and back.

We have an active Shianni and Sigrun, and many other strong female OCs that are involved in plots.  Anora is not available for play, but Wynne is active and is currently working on building up support for a potential mage overthrow of the Chantry's rule.

An hour is certainly not enough time to wade through the wealth of stories that we have on the site, with more than 2200 threads and 26,000 posts.  If you're interested in strong feminine characters and stories, I will happily point you to some examples.  Feel free to send me a PM.

Unfortunately, yes, there was. The height restrictions are in place because we saw a trend in taller
and taller characters, to the point that it was getting ridiculous. All of our character restrictions have been implemented for a reason. You would be surprised what people try to get away with. Half-cat girl, anyone? (No, I'm not kidding, we had an app for one.)

We strive for logic and realism, as much as can be allowed by a fantasy setting, as it helps with the immersive nature of the roleplay.

Umm.... Three out of the four moderators on the site are female, at least half the active characters are female, most of the players are female, and most of the characters are strong.  So, maybe did you click off of the Warden's Vigil site and go somewhere else by accident?

I laughed when I saw the list of things you can't play, knowing that people had tried it. Heh, oh, people....

Wow. That's a cool RP board. First the Cerberus Network and now this - Bioware gets some cool-ass RP sites. I'll see if I can join up - feel sad I can't use my Warden, tho :P

Thank you for the compliment!

You could always base your character on your Warden. And becoming a Fereldan Grey Warden is certainly a possibility, through roleplay.  If that's something that interests you, please feel free to send Aedan a PM on the board.

We always recommend that simple concepts for characters work best, because that gives you the most room for interaction and character development.  Also, the majority of characters on our board are "regular" citizens of Ferelden, and they've all had some wonderful stories.

Yeeeeah, I'm going with simple. Elisa doesn't really work outside of Warden-ship, but Malcolm still can. (don't know who he is? Read Life on Thedas :P) I'll also see if I can get into the Wardens - if I'm lucky he'll die horribly!

Ummm I don't think so, stuff like this is not from the site? "To the Answerdels! There are barbarian wenches to be unwrapped."

Personally I'd like to unwrap a barbarian lad...

And awesome Aedan: " a tattoo of intricate lines surrounds his right eye. It was a gift from the Dalish clan he helped save from the werewolf curse in the Brecilian Forest. Aedan treasures it, as he knows of no other humans who have been honored with vallaslin."

Sorry, I think this runs counter to the lore: "When the children of our people came of age, they earn the privilege of wearing the vallaslin, the blood writing. It sets us apart from the shemlen, and from the elves who have thrown their lot in with them. It reminds us that we will never again surrender our traditions and beliefs."

And Aedan is the first thing you see when you go to the site.

Also discovered that he is the only character to whom 'arcane warrior' specialisation is available, but he's a warrior, I thought 'arcane warrior' was only available to mages...

  • Arcane Warrior: The only known person to have knowledge of the
Arcane Warrior skill is Aedan Cousland, and training priority would be
    given to his Grey Wardens.
Seems to me the hight restrictions for females were to keep any female charcter from owershadowing the awesome one who is the max allowed 6.3...

OK so there are female mods but they don't seemed to have tamed this overweeningly macho male character. In the real world women are the majority too but that doesn't make us the sex that mainly holds power... It's a great pity to seem the same imbalance duplicated in a fantasy world.
[*]Really, if you ask me this fantasy world needs a little shake up, like a Flemeth or a kick ass Grand Cleric.... :wizard:

Well, if it's not for you, it's not for you. There are plenty of other folks who have a great time on the site, as evidenced by the fact that we've been around since February 2010.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

@Maria13: Aedan knowing the Arcane Warrior specialization isn't an inconsistency. Ingame nonmages can still get the AW-related memories from the phylactery, they just can't use them. It's that knowledge that you use to train your mage companions.

@Freckles: Might write up mah profile soon. He'll basically be Malcolm from Life on Thedas minutes the Grey Warden bit. That is, unless I can get him through the Joining alive.

I've posted and everything. Waiting to see how my little character is received. I'm guessing part of the problem with this sort of thing is that some of us have been burned (badly) in the past. I know I have. Online roleplaying can get tricky.

When you get around to having a female equivalent to awesome Aedan or a woman in a position of power from the beginning, I might be interested.

As I said, bit of a waste...

I saw your profile, mousestalker! It's a good start. Folks in cbox gave you some good advice for fleshing it out. I'm looking forward to the modifications! :)

That's exactly how we've approached the AW specialization, actually. Aedan did pass it on to another player at one point, which was quite an interesting thread.

I'm looking forward to seeing your profile, Malcolm!

Heh, one of the interesting things about the Arcane Warrior spec is that Brecillian is NOT the only place it is encountered. You also find an Arcane Warrior in the temple above Haven--he's a dragon cultist overseer, and the one who drops Spellweaver (AW sword).

There could easily be others, it's just that the spirit in the phylactery had no way of knowing anyone else of his kind had escaped to pass on the knowledge.

The Mods are usually pretty open minded.  If you can logically and realistically explain and get an ability they will listen and rule on things.  I should know they've been letting my crazy ideas in! XD

@Xairic that is good to hear, it's nice to have open-minded mods. :) Unfortunately I know what a time sink forum-based RP is...I used to do a lot of it, and immensely fun as it can be I know I'd probably get sucked in and neglect other projects (priorities tend to dissolve when RP is afoot :P). So I will have to pass, at least for now. :)

Thanks to all the BSN folks who have visited WV over the past few days! We've gotten quite a few sign-ups, and some folks have already gotten through the profile approval process and are playing.

We're always happy to see new faces, though, so if it interests you, please come see us!

So tempting, but as others have said, I'm knee-deep in Dragon Age commitment already. It's great that it exists, though. Lots of hard, thankless work modding something like that.

FYI, there are women in positions of power.  There are actually more female nobles than male nobles atm.  One of them, as an example, is extremely rich and powerful down in Gwaren and may or may not become Teyrna of Gwaren (not saying one way or another as to not ruin plots).

Also, keep in mind, that to play a canon, you have to apply.  People apply for what they want to play.  If you see a lack of the canons you wish to see, then I would encourage you to app an OC, play it for a month and then app the canon you think the site needs to have.  We can't force people to app things just because others want to see it.

The opportunities are there for the type of characters you are talking about.  Yes, Aedan is super macho and quite frankly, sometimes an jerkwad that I want to smack.  But hey, that's IC.  Great part about WV is that people get to pick a character and go with it after it is approved.

I think it's a little unfair to judge an entire site off just one character, but that's me.  I've been playing on there now for over a year and am stilling enjoying it.
