I dont suppose there is a "why" answer in there somewhere?

While im not as for or against it as some.  combat logs were a nice little treat to have around.  Id just like to know the why behind the never.

he explained it in as much detail as was needed here :

i really almost feel sorry for Georg because even though this is a masterpiece of a game and they should be getting tons of praise for it, this forum is just the same as all the others.

all you ever see is complaints and whines from a vocal minority who will troll endlessly.

i mean sit back and look at these forums for a while and think about it. this game has sold what? over a million copies? yet the forums are just covered in a couple dozen or so whiners.

the hundreds of thousands of people who love the game dont bother to come thank them because they are happily playing the game and enjoying their purchase.

it truly is a thankless job.

I agee.  And disagree.  this is the internet, every person whining about something only counts as 1/20th of a person with an actual response.   (No, i am not saying that evryone who wants a combat log is whineing...just most of you).

On the reverse side, every rabid fanboy or fangirl who flies into a rage when anything is questioned also counts as 1/20th of a person.

By that math, this forum has equal representations of whiners, fanpeople and actual normal people who  lov the game but can discuss it rationally.

I am perfectly fine with no combat log. Never felt the use for it to enjoy my game while playing DAO.

I really enjoy this game, while its not perfect (what game is really) its very solid. It scratches that fantasy rpg itch ive been after for a while. However, I do not think I am "whining" when I bring up something I view as a issue, I simply voice my opinion in the hope that it might be agreed on by a large body of individuals, and maybe something constructive can happen from it.

It would take away from the atmosphere of the game for me.

and thats a fair disagreement.  Which is why I think it should be a toggle rather then something you cant change.  But alas they say its never going to happen.  Hopefully someone does make a game as good as this, but with damage stats and combat logs (not a mmo please, I really dislike mmo's)

Whereas instead, it *is* agreed upon by a large body of individuals, but then the signs remain that nothing constructive will be done about it. I'm sharing the pain. And it's moderate to high so kinda smarts :(

Hey, that is fine.

One cannot be sure to get what one asks for, but if one doesn't ask, one is sure to never get it.
Well, in a civilized and constructive manner preferably anyway :)

Would be nice to have a combat log that can be togged on and off. Off when I'm playing the game, but I will toggle it after a battle definitely to see who do what damage to what enemy or boss.

Well, that pretty well closes the book on it, don't it?

Haha, sure does.

I read his reasons from the other thread... to summarize briefly:

1) combat logs were cut during development and testers didn't miss it
2) combat logs eat up system resources due to printing a large amount of strings, etc.  As a programmer myself, I can see that this would be an issue.
3) there are too many numbers to fully express the game rules
4) combat logs clutter the UI
5) combat logs are simply not important enough because they appeal to only a small vocal audience

At least that's what I gathered from his posts :P

Well, that takes care of that, I suppose. I respect your honest answer.
