So, I read the bio, and obviously played the game but some stuff got lost in translation.
In the bio of Malcom Hawke in the lovely walkthrough I bought, it said he died (of what it didn't say) 3 years before the events in which the game started, and yet at some point, if you have Bethany in your party and she's chatting with Anders, she said Malcom died in the blight.
He's not really mentioned much after than other than being an apostate and blah blah blah you know the rest. So which is it?
Did he die before the destruction of Lothering, or during the destruction?
Malcom Hawke

I was wondering about that discrepancy myself. I feel like the Codex entry is the accurate one: that Malcolm died three years earlier. It makes more sense given that Hawke seems to be settled into the "head of the family" role by the time the game starts.

Yes. He died in the Blight, three years before the Blight.
He was a wizard after all.
He was a wizard after all.

Yes, that bugged me, too. I guess it's a mistake and like leggywillow I think of the codex entry as the canon.

Yeah I was thinking that too, everyone seems to be kind of over it by the time the game starts

Well maybe he was killed by a common illness that's also called 'the blight'....maybe.

Maybe he died of the taint, not the Blight itself?

maybe Bathany just lied to Anders, so that Anders couldn't say "See, thats why it's rigtth to blow up chantrys", assuming that the chantry had something to do with his death.

I'm nitpicking, but the conversation is between Bethany and Merrill, not Beth and Anders.
I didn't notice the discrepancy before, though. Whoops.

If that was what happened, she would have said something like "My father died from the blight". She says "My father died in the Blight". The B is capitalized in the text.
