My character is a mage (like always) and I find the concept of blood magic facinating. and I was wondering what exactly makes blood magic evil aside from the chantry retoric. and what exactly seperates blood magic from those spells that allows your character to raise the dead and drain the life of others without the use of blood magic.
ps. sorry if this is in the wrong section:innocent:

normal spells use mana, blood magic uses the lifeblood of the mage/anyone really, and thats what makes it dangerous.

Fairly good wiki article here:
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Blood_Magic
"In the contemporary world, blood magic is described as being one of the more "sinister" types of magic. Blood magic is the magical practice of using blood, life itself, as a potent fuel for magical spells. This life may be supplied by the mage, or by willing or unwilling sacrifices. It lets the mage control the minds of others as well as use their very own life force to fuel their power...
While not inherently evil, the Chantry strictly forbids the usage of blood magic as it supposedly eventually leads to corruption."
Those who claim blood magic to be evil are most likely afraid of the damage it can bring, since it taps life itself as power.

It's probably considered evil because a lot of the power comes from demons in the fade, and involves using the blood of others to case powerful effects.

The difference between necromancy and blood magic is confusing... im guessing Blood magic through demons in the fade... necromancy is using undead forces to... do weird stuff - tho necromancy in DAO/DA2 isn't as cool as it should be

The weird think I have always though of blood magic... Supposedly, it's the magic demons taught Tevinter. That's why the Chantry has labelled it "evil". Well, except when they need it to keep mages prisioners, of course.
Now, Thedasian demons are just evil spirits of the fade -spirits, as in "having no body or blood".
On the other hand, "normal" magic is powered by Lythium... the thing than grows in the fade and creeps in the real world.
It seems to me than the one demons taugh was normal magic, and blood magic was the one created by humans. Probably to fight those demon inspired mages...

Blood magic was used in unethical experimentation but I think the most evil thing about it in the game was its acquisition. If the demon was willing to teach you at the cost of a child, I wonder what other deals were struck between other demons and mages.

well I think it is agreed that the betrayal of the arls son would be an unethical manner in which one would aquire blood magic but you can just save just before confronting the demon and bertray the child which will unlock the blood mage class then just reload the save and defeate the demon. however as far as lore goes jowan was able to gain blood magic just by reading some books in the tower. come to think of it isn't that the most ironic thing for the chantry to lock the mages away only to never moniter the materials in their own library.
anyway I supose my stance wold be pro research. If I were a mage I would look into blood magic and try to learn its secrets to actualy have a logical reason why it should or shouldn't be banned and not just go by the chantry who would rather have all mages be enslaved in a pointy tower.
