Is that a problem? Should virtual fantasy worlds exhibit modern human rights and political correctness?casedawgz wrote...
It's probably vastly more sexist, too.

Lame
The Witcher 2 is an epic dark fantasy game that takes takes a lot of cues from medieval European history for inspiration, so don't expect female Knight Commanders and gays frolicking in the Sun like in Dragon Age 2, which is strictly high fantasy.

Otherwise it's better off just writing books than developing a 2011 game with an old game engine that does not deliver.

I had more fun playing this single chapter than the overwhelming bulk of Dragon Age II, or any other recent RPG. The Witcher 2 is simply more ambitious. It’s braver. Above all else, it’s hungrier, giving it that little extra edge from the first scene onwards.
Not that hard, since DA2 was the worst Bioware game ever released. Which doesnt mean its a bad game, its just the worst of all Bioware games.

first game was ok but couldn't hold a candle to Origins, but then again neither can DA2

"Overall, my 7 hours or so with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings left me very impressed. Again, I didn't play The Witcher as much as I would've liked, but the difference between the two games feels like the difference between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. Everything from the gameplay to the consistently high quality of cutscenes and the voice acting just feels like a labor of love by CD Projekt RED.
I looked back on my experience with Dragon Age II afterwards, and BioWare's fantasy RPG now feels like it's in almost every way a mere toddler in the shadow of The Witcher 2. That's not to say DA II sucked, but a single village in The Witcher 2 already has more personality than all of Kirkwall. Moreover, the politics now run deep without treating you like a child for once. Characters feel human and treat you like an adult, the player is expected to deal with temporal jumps in narrative to keep up with the story, choices actually carry weight, and oh my god the breast textures!"

You think the middle ages were completely filled with chivalrous knights and fair maidens or something?casedawgz wrote...

This is DARK fantasy, not high fantasy like DA or Fable.
The middle ages were filled with wh0res and simple peasants, that wouldn't know the difference between saying thank you and jumping on someone's stick
BioWare completely lost that when they sold out to EA. Don't let marketing fool you, NONE of the design choices were about making a better game than DAO, it was all about doing it with a tiny budget with a short dev cycle to cash in on DAO's success.MrDizaztar wrote...
Still wont touch BioWare's pride and joy.
The only BioWare games I found better than The Witcher were KOTOR and ME2 (though TW is only slightly better than DAO IMO)

agreed. but watching more in-game gameplay/combat videos and reading lots of previews/interviews would help you judge better.

You know i was actually finding that an interesting article until the guy got all excited about breasts. Surely there must be things about The Witcher that are more exciting than how nice the womens chest areas look XD

I never trust 'official' reviews, I'll wait until the game's actually released and gamers start giving their views before judging it

I'm partial to Gamefly reviews. While DA2 was a fun play (for me) it lacked everything a sequel should present.
Regardless, Skyrim will dominate both.

I have high hopes for Skyrim but realistically I'm not expecting much, not after Oblivion. loved Morrowind but hated Oblivion. but even so, it's hard to compare TES to DA anyway. TES are sandbox and solo, very different from DA

The game looks pretty and all but they need to look at things that did not work in Oblivion like Combat and improve on them so it's not a tedious chore. Also i get it's a sandbox game and you need to roam but they could make it a bit more exciting there were times playing Oblivion where i felt like i was going to fall asleep just wandering around doing nothing for hours. If they can tweak these aspects in Skyrim i think they will be onto a real winner for RPG gaming.

I don't get how people can't compare different genres. It's just a matter of preference, which one you liked more and had more fun with.rayvioletta wrote...

I prefer KOTOR over StarCraft, Tekken over Madden, Max Payne over Dragon Age 2, Devil May Cry over The Sims, Mass Effect over God of War, Monkey Island over WarCraft, Burnout over Neverwinter Nights, The Witcher over Call of Duty, Civilization over Kane & Lynch, Hitman over Tomb Raider etc.
