Crappy marketing should always be ignored though.

Someone clearly didn't ignore CDProjekt's crappy marketing is seems.

I don't even understand what you're trying to point out.

It's not a gamebreaker for me, though obviously operating in a man's vision is alienating to an extent.

That's the thing, it's alienating. It may not be a game breaker, but it sure doesn't help in enjoying the game more. Which is kind of ironic for me in particular... :?

I haven't even played the first game, I'll do so in the next few days (I've owned it since the Steam Holiday Sale of 2009). If I can tolerate the silly sex card thing and the other stuff, then maybe I'll be able to tolerate whatever happens in TW2.

About Triss... she's got magic I think... and it wouldn't be first time when sorceress changes own appearance.

This is something explicitly mentioned in the books, actually -- most of the mages of both genders in the Witcher have used magic to manipulate and improve their appearance in some ways. IIRC Yennefer is said to originally have a hump, e.g. Manipulations are done both because they can do them (and we're vain creatures) and because human nature being what it is, it's easier to manipulate people and command respect when you sport good appearance.

So most other games can show chainmail bikinis and mountains of bountiful flesh with armor rating + 100 to boot, but Cd red shows a little cleavage under plate armor and they get called juvenile.

As far as I'm concerned, without Bioware and CD red, all we'd see in fantasy games is this:

Hey, it is what it is. If you're going to make an immersive roleplay game, people want to take characters seriously. Would Saskia seriously have a metalsmith make her a low-cut breastplate? lolol That's something that screams "no, we don't really think this would happen in the world, but since teenage boys are going to play our games, we're gonna do it anyway." I mean, I was just praising the fact that they thought out things like weather and terrain in their placement of plants. They could put the same thoughtfulness into characters' dress if they wanted to. Obviously they don't. So they get called on it.

Like I said, it's not a big deal to me. Just sort of an eyeroller.

From the first 8 hours or so I've played, the female characters were actually among the strongest and most capable characters Geralt encounters. Then again, all the male characters are either rapists, suffer from a case of excessive bravado, need rescuing, are worse schemers than Wormtongue, or are just obscenity-shouting idiots.

Honestly i see no problem with the armored design of female warriors in Witcher2... I don't need another Dragon Age2 Aveline to please fanboyism of realist... For all i care, i would probably just enjoy the game and i let the creativity of the developers to amaze me.. Hell i don't even mind if there were really chainmail bikinis...

Better than rapists and idiots... yeah, some compliment. <_<

But whatever, I'll play TW1 in the meantime and see if this game is really something I'd be interested in.

Forming opinions on screenshots and writing is out of bounds; yet taking Maurice Tan's words at face value are acceptable because it supports your assumptions? If the argument is wait until playing TW2 to make a judgment call, it applies to every side of this debate. Besides, just because Maurice Tan states female characters in the first eight hours are comparably better than rapists, inept villains, and can handle their own, does not mean there is suddenly nothing to criticize.

The female characters in that article were all said to be capable, but it was still easy to find flaws in their designs and descriptions.

@Slimgrin - Sure, I could be writing about the silliness in "Rift" or "Dungeon Siege III", but this thread is about TW2. As well, worse cases existing does not exempt TW2 from criticism. Apply that logic to other examples, such as different types of bad movies or violent crimes, and ask yourself if one movie or crime being worse makes others acceptable.

Could be dress armour designed to flaunt her assets, another weapon in a cunning generals arsenal if you catch my drift though if I were a lass in the middle ages i'd go down the virtous chaste route to assure devotion as on the goddess/harlot axis i'm sure the former assures greater loyalty (and i'd get a full breastplate and helmet).

However she may just be prettifying herself up for a meeting with Foltest or somebody else important, it's a step in the right direction from Isabelllla and such but I think the cdpr lads are intentionally making it kind of gritty glamorous, lets call it die nasty styling.

Mungo hate oversensitive censoring.

I give up. Can't defend both sides of this argument. I just think Cd red is more progressive than people are giving them credit for.

It's not like the male warriors are wearing much more than a lion cloth in the Hyborian setting either.

If men wear full plate, women should too, and vice versa.

argh ... damn spoilers!

Thanks for the latest gameplay videos - the environments look really lively. I'm not sure about the combat, but I think it can hardly be worse than in the first (unmodded). For instance maxed out igni, with ritual and potions, one-shotted everything but few bosses.

@Zjarcal: I hated the sex 'minigame' aspect in TW1. Also Triss must really feel cold in her fishnet 'battle dress'. I loved the romances, especially with Shani. From what I've seen on Screenshots/Videos, TW2 seems much improved. Still, some female developers probably wouldn't have hurt .

Saskia's cleavage...I think some ppl are over reacting greatly. Would a woman wear padded vest zipped to the chin outside the battle, or open it to cool and breathe freely? Some cleavage, sheesh...And I have to tell you I saw numerous times women dresseed in similar armour IRL, you hould check some of the pictures of Polish brotherhoods and the armours they wear. Women sometimes too...Grunwald being the biggest thing in summer...

...but whatever, you cant please everyone.

Saskia looks alright to me, to be honest. Triss is a big improvement.

I'm interested to see how the women are portrayed personality-wise this time though - there was one scene in the first which did irritate me, alot. That could just be me being paranoid though, so *shrug*.

Maybe what hangmans tree says.
Although could it perhaps be that it's a compromise of a sort due to that world being favored towards men?
Probably easier to think of her as a 'true' warrior without the cleavage, but tbh I don't find that there's enough cleavage of her to think of her as more of a babe/fanboy service than a serious warrior with attractive features.
But I suppose it also depends on how she's portrayed in the game, just to get more context of her character.
