maybe i should have got more exp before i went in, but now the entire fort thing is on lock down and i cant do anything but fight the ogre.

What's your class?
Edit: And what difficulty setting are you on? I've played RPGs before and got my butt kicked on normal. This is the first really hard fight in the game.

Which class are you? A ranged attack makes thing easier, but still the end is similar: The solution when you have no potions... run, run, run, attack, run, run, run. You are bait, so dont' stop, and attack again should the Ogre charge at someone else... And don't let him grab you! Get the others to stay away and use bows (at least one of the two random soldier mooks should be an archer)
Wizards have it slightly easier (run, run, run, Winter's Grasp, run, run, run)
Edit: It's a really hard fight. And what really bugs me is than the next time you met an Ogre, you will be terrified, and then discover you are now able to kill it by your lonesome, (censored)!

a rogue. first one ive ever played. its weird, and not sure i like it. maybe im comapring it too much with the baulders gate series which i LOVE! these rogues seem more like fighters.
and although convienant, i hate how the party members spring back to life after a battle....lame. and i hate the community equipment set up. and i hate a lack of controls for each player. uh, nm....so far the game is good, just not baulders gate. maybe i need to get used to / find the settings im looking for. - i will stop being whiny.
thanks all.

Have you noticed those barrels in the back where you fight the ogre? If you go back there, the ogre can't reach you. Then, just use a bow/staff or magic spells and take them out. Sure, it's cheap, but if you are having trouble, or are trying to solo this fight, it works wonders.
If you think that this particular ogre fight is hard, during the later parts of the game, you can end up fighting sometimes 4 or 5 ogres at once. You will have better tools to deal with them though, as well as a much more durable cast.

lols, i messesd up playing for the first time too, but now that orge is easy because i already know what he will do.
But i still hate the grab thing, only bash, pommel strike and any paralyze spells can release the grab. usually he grab when the warden and party member have no stamina, or on cooldown....so just watch the show and reload....yes mushrooms can replenish stamina, and the only thing can replenish stamina in early game, but no use, too small amount...I am totally shocked about the grab thing in my first play through and get totally ****** off with it, i still remember how i ****** off...like want to throw out my PC through window....it is becaue my warden was in full health and i don't know about bash and other thing at that time, just watching the orge punching my warden helplessly and after that bashing ground and hurling stone that come from no where and then everyone dead...totally ****** me off.
Actually, there are so many boss fight or non boss fight that ****** me off in this game...such as Mage Assunder in the Fade....and now there is Skip the Fade mod...

Since you're a rogue, equip a bow on your character, and have him fire on the golem. Then, have the mage auto-fire on him. Have your party Hold Position Now the Ogre will start off attacking one character, so make that character run, to keep the Ogre from trying to kill him. When the Ogre switches targets, make sure the new target is able to run. As long as you have at least 2 characters capable of making ranged attacks, you should be fine.

I think this is one of the toughest fights in the game, really. Yes you'll end up fighting several ogres at a time, but at this stage you're just too low level to be a terribly effective fighter.
But yes, I'll just echo others' advice here. Ranged attacks are the way forward. Ideally you should have everyone equipped with bows/staffs. Spread out over the room and make whoever the ogre runs for run around until he picks a new target. Don't engage him in melee combat. You won't win. Cheesey, but not really cheating in my book.

Get all ur party members ranged and make the character chased by the ogre run around the room avoiding damage.
That's a tip
Though i have beaten the ogre a fair few times head on on normal difficulty - as a warrior, mage and rogue (twice)

I just beat him on Hard with no difficulty at all. Have the mage paralyze him (Or do it yourself), have Alistair use taunt, and just backstab him till he dies.

Heck, just having a mage on hand makes this fight so much easier. Just have one of your three warriors use taunt while your mage warden casts healing spells and any immobilization spells they have on hand. Make sure none of the warriors have shield bash in their tactics, so they will have it available against a grab.
I also did this as a rogue, where the ogre went down before I could blink. Of course, dual wield rogues do that with a lot of boss fights.
