 Hi,

I'm currently playing a BG1 MP game with my friends and like many others we want to use the BG2 engine (Through TUTU/BGT). I was wondering if there was a way to solve the xp gain that u aquire from unlocking chests etc. The Xp gain is quite substantial and so i was hoping that if someone has found a fix around it (other than manually removing the XP) i would be really grateful if you could enlighten me.

Thanks

If you use BGT it has a component that automatically reduces XP rewards for thieiving and spell learning.  So for instance learning  1st level spell will get you just 11 XP.  There is a component in the BGT tweaks mod that allows you to reinstate the originals (intended for use when you transfer to BG2).  There are also alternative experience systems - I am currently using the one in Turambar Fixes and Tweaks, which gradually increases XP as you get higher level.  You might also want to consider the DefJam experience fixer.  This lets you set separately the % XP gained for skill use, quests and creatures.  This is handy if you want to include mods in BG1, but don't want to end up with far more XP than normal when transfrerring to BG2.

Thanks, thats quite a lot of options lol

Seeing as the component is already included i may go with BGT however i have another question.

Considering there are 3 of us playing and we aren't picking up any npcs u can imagine that we'll be leveling pretty quickly. Is there an XP cap on stages of the game because i dont want to get into BG2 being already lvl 20.

Thanks again

I tend to set creature XP at 75%. Even at this level with only 3 in the group you will probably go somewhat beyond the old BG1 limit of 161k, though this will depend on the number of mods you have and how thoroughly you do everything. You could set at 50% for a bit more challenge.

Alternatively if you just want to make sure you transfer at the 'right' level for BG2, then why not use the console command to set XP, i.e.
CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP(161000)
will set your experience to the original transfer limit.

Your choice for Tutu or BGT needn't be based on the xp limit: in Tutu, you play BG1 in the BG 2 engine as you know, but xp gain is the same as in BG1. Disarming a trap only gives you 40 xp in Tutu, so there's no need for worry in that regard. Only worry is: make sure you get the Beregost Fix installed. It's included in several tweak mods, I know the code is included in SCS and the Gavin npc-mod. The code was published here, but I got the link to the topic explaining how to make your own setup-BeregostFix.exe in WeiDu on my other computer. I'd be happy to answer later on, if you want too.

I recall that opening chests also gives you a lot of xp and so does learning scrolls. I thought these xp gains were not in BG1.

Thanks for all the info guys. Really Helpful

You're right that they did not give XP in the original BG1, but playing with BGT or Tutu you are using the BG2 engine and therefore do get these rewards (although by default BGT/Tutu both heavily nerf the BG2 award values).

but does it nerf it enough? Our 3 ppl may have just dropped down to 2 so which one would provide better nerfing,

BGT or Tutu

Thanks

Both reduce it heavily. The standard award for spell learning is 1000 XP per spell level. In BGT it is 10 per spell level (which personally I think is nerfed too much!). I've not played Tutu for a long time, but think that is probably the same as in BGT. Traps and locks awards are also much lower.

Thanks mate we've gone for BGT

We downloaded the widescreen mod too. I noticed BGT says to install DefJam if u want to tweak XP does that mean core BGT doesnt come with xp tweaks?

Also can u please recommend us some nice mods. No mods to add items and stuff like that
maybe visual mods like widescreen mod.

If there are any let me know

Thanks

The widescreen mod is good.  You might also like the Worldmap mod for improved visuals.  Other possibilities you might want to try (though there are loads of others):
Secret of Bone Hill - extra areas for mid or late game
Grey Clan - challenge for party at end of game
BG1 mini-quests and encounters - small extra challenges
Sword coast strategies (probably only if you know the game well and want an extra challenge)

As you say BGT does not have a range of XP choices, though BGT tweaks allows you to reset XP awards back to the standard ones for BG2.

I also like Level1 NPCs and BG1 NPC project, but these are less relevant if you are playing multi-player.
