I actually thought Anders was gay in Awakening until I heard that one comment about wanting a woman. The frosted hair, single golden ear ring, his love of cats and jewelry....he was kinda effeminate back then, ya know.

He was flamboyant, yes but he openly flirted with women and in one scene he says something to the effect of "I love you but NOT in THAT way!" to the male Grey Warden in a disgusted tone.

Maybe he thought the Warden was kinda fugly?

Anders sexual preference was definently retconned to please a very small but highly vocal minority happy.  If Bioware tries to please everyone their just going to water-down their product.  DA2 felt water-down

I didn't mind Isabela being bi because of DAO, I didn't mind Merril or Fenris because their new squadmates.
But Anders I didn't like being bi.

Anders tells Velanna her tattoos are hot
when you recruit Velanna with Justice in the  party. Anders says we should help Velanna "because she's a looker, imagine what her sister looks like"
Liked being caught by this one girl templar
"All I want is a pretty girl and shoot lightning bolts at fools"
If female warden says "pretty girl right here"   Anders says I might not have to look much further
Tells you Andraste was hot
If you bring him to the Blackmarsh to see the Baroness he says "I like powerful women".

Not once does he mentioned he's attracted to malesImage IPB.

There was nothing wrong with the bi-sexual romances in DA2. People just need to be more open minded and less homophobic/prejudice.

You're obviously stupid and/or can't read. This thread is not about a problem with it being in the game, it's about losing points toward the friendship because you're not homesexual and have to turn down the NPC's.

It simply didn't make sense. But I honestly wouldn't have minded if I could have just bromanced him, hell, my Warden and Anders in DA:A we're buds...

You'd actually want to bromance Anders?

I really disliked that character in DA2. Not because he hit on me but because of....story and character reasons....I have no idea if you know what I'm talking about BigC-VI, since I don't see the DA2 logo under your avatar.

But if you have played the game then you know why I cannot ever like the guy.

I haven't regestiered it on here yet I don't think, but yes, I have beat it and know what he did. I stood by him because I understood, but didn't approve. I wasn't part of it, but plan to take advantage ot it because change needed to happen, imo. But I thinkt he game would have been more tolerable had Anders been...well...more Anders-y.

Isn't it possible that he was just acting that way in DA out of fear of homophobia or out of a desire to conform and in DA2 became comfortable enough to come out of the closet as it were?

I understand wanting continuity, but people do such things in RL....

Anders was my bro in DAA also.
Everytime I play DA2 feel like I have to pick the bottom option to convince myself he's the same Anders I knew in Awakening and not this retconned character Imeet in DA2

Man, the Warden has reached Memetic Sex God status in-universe. Not even Shepard has done that (yet).

In any event, I agree with the OP's sentiment - turning down a character simply because you don't swing that way should not grant rivalry. IMO, romance-initiating dialogues ought to be completely detached from whatever morality-esque system gets included (if we're talking ME3 then Paragon-Renegade, obviously).

Also, why would you want to bromance DA2 Anders? Varric is right there, tailor made for the job. :P DA:A Anders is another character entirely.

That seems to be the excuse Bioware is using.

Can you just like someone without wanting to have sex with them.Image IPB
Their is nothing wrong with bromances

Its obvious Anders sexuality was retconned because homosexual players were complaining that they were forced to choose Zevran or Leliana if they wanted to roleplay a homosexual character.

Its werid how all the romances in DA2 are bi-sexual
even Aveline is bi-sexualImage IPBImage IPB

Yeah, retconning Anders was a big WTF.  What next, are they going to retcon Morrigan into being BI despite the fact she's disgusted by the thought of a lesbian romance when Leliana brought it up in DA1?

He's too good looking for a shepard, since all other custom ones suck balls.

There is an easy solution, just keep the gayness out of ME like it's always been.

I don't know, but Anders set off my, my girlfriend's, and several other fellow players' gay-dar in DA:A. Yes, he could be flirty to the ladies, but the way he went about it seemed to me to be reminiscent of how gays play with women in my own life, including my brother. Even the way he made a game of it when female Warden flirted with him would not have been out of place for a gay man. And no, I'm NOT saying that means he should have been gay; I see no reason why women and gays who wanted him for a LI couldn't have the option.

Then we're back to square one, and people complaining about it.

Note to self: Learn to make only one post with all quotes in it. -sigh-

That is exactly what I was thinking. How people act isn't always how they feel, especially if there are any stigmas placed by society around how they feel. That there would have been reasons for Bioware wanting to go this route is completely academic.

Aveline was bisexual?

What?

Kissing someone on the cheek as thanks =/= I want to get freaky with you.

Otherwise nearly everyone I know is bisexual.
