ME1 had really good character animations (when there wasn't any framerate lag or glitches). I really hate to sound like an ME1 is  better then ME2 person, but this is another one of those scenarios where it's true.

Sadly I think the old animations were largely exclusive to the ME1 and it's engine. I'm guessing the more complex animations was also one of the reasons why ME1 was rather "sluggish" at times. A big part of ME2's design was "trimming the fat", in essence they stripped a lot of was in the original game simply so it could run faster. While I like smooth framrates and I really miss ME1's exceptional and fluid animations. ME2 is just very stiff and rigid when it comes down to how characters walk/run and even use abilities.

That said the sitting with legs open is just Bioware being unattentative. Which they tend to do a lot with the small stuff. Obviously the way Shepard sits is only really a problem with that dress, otherwise it's merely just them doing what they always do and reusing to death animations. I know it takes a lot of work and effort to get animations recorded (since they likely use actors) but the fact that so many are re-used degrades the experience. Like when everyone does exactly the same fist-palm to be dramatic.

What seems funny in this thread is that people think Mass Effect 1 had separate animations for Sheploo and Femshep. They had the same, just more unisexed so it wasn't bothering anyone to watch how they both walked the same way. In ME2 that unisexness is gone and it's too obvious male animation to be used for a chick.

Erm, nope.  They had very different runs for one thing.  Just look at the arms when they are running without weapons drawn.

Yea I'm pretty sure all characters use the same basic "skeletons". It's just ME1's skeletal animations looked a helluva lot better.

In ME2 we have this stupid lumbering trod for Shepard and there isn't even a proper "falling" animation.

But I think what bugs me the most is the "turn" animation and the utter lack of Shepard shifting their body's center of mass to make turns on the run.

:pinched:

It's the same animation, it's just the FemShep model having diffrent arms than Sheploo.

This is funny and sad at the same time. Also, maybe they should address clipping issues too? See her hand?

Just as long as they don't teach her how to dance. As my FemShep said when asked if she's changed by the places she goes, "I bring the change!" The Shep Shuffle is going to take the galaxy by storm if it kills me. And Bioware. And EA. I want a Shep add-on for Dance Central.

That, or they've seen The Graduate, which is what that's actually from.

It damn sure was. There was a lack of four eyed helmets, unique Batarian shuttle and a prison outfit for Kenson.

@ didymos1120 -- That's because bringing the change in ME1. In ME2, the change had been brought.

Just adding my vote: let men move/pose like men, and women move/pose like women.

In this age of 3D games moving toward more realistic graphics, it'd be nice if the animations kept pace.

Get rid of the stupid neck-to-the-side while running, make sure if her legs are open when sitting she's NOT in a dress, or crosses her legs when she is in one,and possibly pattern her run off of a female in the real life millitary and that will be perfect! I mean really, who runs while looking to the side the ENTIRE time they run?

I chalked the shuttle up to "cheap knockoff".

Videogame characters with poorly working code that's supposed to make them look in the direction of the nearest interactive objects.

That picture seems to lack the quote - "Any moment now and I give birth to a Krogan, just you watch" - That's very bad.
I hate how the fem Shep has such a horrible animation set in ME2, she may a soldier but she's also a woman and should at least have a more feminine walk instead of her arms sticking all the way out and lumbering around.

Fem Shep could still have a graceful, more feminine walk and run while still being a tough military trained character.

I say we bring that back, lol. Seriously though, the fable fade outs are pretty retarded.

Anyway, in addition to the whole "Close Femsheps legs in ME3" thing I think they really need to address clipping, cause yes, her flashing her crotch is pretty bad but god do I hate when I see retarded arm clipping like that. It plagues this game. Nothing is more immersion jarring then when someone puts there arm through something their not supposed to.

Hey wouldn't that be a funny sig though? Close Femsheps legs in ME3? lol although that might sound wrong to a lot of people.  unless it had a pic of her like mine in it.

It's very odd how the Characters have been sexed up and the sex scenes have been turned into dry humping fade to blacks. It's the complete opposite of ME1!

I know right? Lol, miranda in her skin tight suit that hugs on her butt cheeks, The butt camera angles, Jack wearing basically nothing. Then in ME1 everyone was in full body armor with nothing showing off and at the end of the game you get 10 seconds of bare butt and side boob. Really Fox? lol. Who knows maybe they were just playing it safe with ME2. Its not like it was interactive like in God of war and Indigo Prophecy. I've repeated said they should bring those back but I think Fox scared them with all the free marketing and sales based on a lie.
