Pretty much my mage hawke is in a romance with Merril which i usually keep in my party full time. She is a Primal Blood Mage and was wondering what role my Hawke should play. He is lvl 15 currently and i've had him be Elemental and a Spirit Healer during that time. But would like to make him a Blood Mage also if possible? Anyone got any ideas for me?

SH give + 10 con which works very well with blood.
Are you playing NM... drop Elemental for Arcane/ Spirit? Other than that they work very well together.

playing on Normal mode. Shouldn't i have Hawke be a Blood/Force though?

If you aren't planning to step up from normal mode difficulty then it's not necessary to go blood/force. That spec does work nicely but in normal you can get by much easier. Blood/Force/Primal are mostly chosen when playing nightmare due to the friendly fire friendliness :)

I would suggest having Merrill go Entropy/Primal/Personal tree, myself. You can get all the good stuff from each (Entropy up to Death Hex, Maxed Primal, Maxed Personal), and still have a point left over, I think.

If you want to go Blood Mage, I'd suggest choosing Blood/Force, but if you you really want to stay Spirit Healer, I would suggest going Force as your second specialization. Ezrafetch has a SH guide, SuicidalBaby as a great general BM guide, and I've got an Elemental BM/FM guide, so you're pretty much covered no matter what you want to do!

If you're not going nightmare, I see even less reason to go SH. Go all damage and CC!

I played on hard as a force ..only spend my second spec point in SH but got no skills from there

I also didnt have heal and it all went fairly easy. On normal you can build what you like, and make it work. If you arent planning on challenging yourself with higher difficultys you get the bonus of building whatever you want

Nice thing about mages is that they're really modular, in that you mix and match trees reasonably well whereas rogues and warriors basically are stuck taking the same skills in the same trees, no questions asked. That being said, Brazen is pretty right in that you can get by on Hard and lower without SH/Anders. It's easy enough to get through Act 1 on Nightmare with just 1pt Heal + Potions, which is actually the hardest part of the game.

If you decide you want to run with a SH, then yeah, checking out my guide would be a reasonable place to start. BM can work with SH, but you probably won't be spending a whole lot of time in BM (I only invest the spec point for the epic +25 health bonus when I go that route, no actual skill points into it), since SH will eat up points and that you don't need any of the skills in the tree, especially if you go Elemental/Primal. FM/SH will turn into a bit more of a controller; you'll be spending more of your time locking down threats than, say, nuking. If you want to dedicate yourself to BM, then as mentioned before, SuicidalBaby and AreleX have excellent BM/x guides, if that's the way you like to ball.  So yeah, we got ya covered ;)

Well i decided to go BM/SH with my Primal Mage. Just cause i like the extra 10 con and it helps to go HA for a moment if needed to use Group Heal/Revival. Not to mention i have hps on par with a warrior now. At level 19 i have 42 magic, 31 wil, and like 39 con or so in Act 2 with like 305-320 hps.

I do know one thing the final thought staff is gonna bankrupt me. Is the design of the final thought look cool for 152 sovereigns?

Also any advice for the high dragon fight for a Hawke mage that is a Blood/SH Primal Mage?

You can hit 350HP with SH/BM really easily.  At level 21 I had 335 HP.  You can spend points into Magic when you hit that much life.  You're basically a walking tank already with that life total, so it's a bit unnecessary past that point.

I'd say don't get the FInal Thought.  It looks like it has juicy bonuses but you don't have enough spells to make good use of the bonuses.  Stick with the Torch of Falon'Din and assorted junk staves to exploit elemental weaknesses.  Exploiting elemental weaknesses via correct stave types will be where the majority of your DPS gains come from.  The FInal Thought is simply not worth the gold.  If anything, get Ring of the Ferryman, that will increase your Lightning damage (and Fire damage if you have those spells)...it's noticeable and the damage gains are actually in spells you use.

High Dragon fight is really easy for mage Hawkes, period (I'd say the easiest of the three classes).  The hardest portions of the battle are actually just the hordes of Dragons/lings that are thrown at you.  Not that the enemies themselves are hard, but if you're not careful you can get swarmed quickly.  There's definitely a lot of dragon...things there.  The majority of the High Dragon itself will be letting Aveline tank, healing her when necessary, and auto-attacking, and auto-attacking, and auto-attacking, and auto-attacking, and... -_-

That being said, make sure you have Aveline activate Shield Defense and if you have Stonewall, add a tactic for that in too.  Fire Warding runes and Elemental Aegis (if you go that way) will mitigate the High Dragon's toughest attack (I personally didn't and made it through ok...mostly because I forgot to rune her armor and forgot to give her Elemental Aegis).  Make sure you have two cold staffs: one for you and one for your other mage, and hopefully one of you has Elemental Weapons.  After that it's just a war of attrition.  Just grind it out.  I beat it on Nightmare on my first try, whereas in Origins I got manhandled by the High Dragon the first, oh, 2450 times I tried it.

Well i'll decide when i hit act 3 if i wanna waste 152 soveriegns on a staff or 130 on a ring :) wish there was better ways to make money then throwing enemies drop more coin on everyone. We need a Reaper cudgel for DAII :)

Should i have my mage hawke still go blood magic when dealing with the high dragon or switch in and out of the Healing Aura? Also besides Aveline and Hawke (BM/SH) who else would help a lot? Maybe Anders for another Spirit Healer? Only ever fought the high dragon once and that was a challenge cause my 2h warrior had the attack speed glitch.

Haha, that's true.  Money is a lot scarcer this time around.  Probably because there's no double-money glitch like in DA:O.  Also, I forgot to mention the Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness (Black Emporium).  If you're willing to look like a Chantry sister/brother, it's probably the best investment of the lot.  Massive damage gains in almost all the elements, and a boost to healing spells.  Handcrafted for Spirit Healers, really.

My HIgh Dragon kill was with a Primal/FM/SH Hawke, Merrill, Varric, Aveline.  So I didn't spend any time in Blood Magic (because I didn't have it ).  I suspect that Blood Magic won't make that much of a difference outside of maybe giving you an extra mana pool to use, but you honestly won't be spending a whole lot of mana (unless you plan on casting Winter's Grasp a whole lot), because you'll be mostly auto-attacking.  You may need to access Blood Magic when you fight the adds, but that's just normal mook tactics, so you should be fine.  I only spent time in Healing Aura when I needed to cast Group Heal (and Revive, which I think I had to once since I'd gotten careless).

Probably be using the champion armor set. I know its not practical but its free and looks cool. Besides the whole time i play this game the chantry just pisses me off cause of that one sister petrice. I'll have to try and squeeze some room in for Heal and Greater Heal. Cause i don't have those yet. I have the Group heal and upgrade and i still also need the upgrades for Blood Magic and Sacrfice also yet.

But yeah i could see my Hawke going blood to use Hemmorage for the extra enemies or something.

So at level 19 i still need Bloodlust, Heal, Greater Heal, and maybe Grim Sacrfice. Maybe i'll do the planner thing to show u what my mage looks like.

Edit: My build at level 19 so far http://biowarefans.c...w1tesEBCGILjxpT

You can sub out One Foot In for Grim Sacrifice. Otherwise, I don't see any glaring problems with it. If you can handle the adds, you can handle the High Dragon, pretty much. The High Dragon is just a slog and not terribly fun since all he has is just a bunch of HP, and his (her?) attacks can be reduced to nothing very easily. You may want to make sure among your party you have enough CCCs to quickly eliminate those adds since you aren't going to be running cold spells at all...you'll be a little reliant on being able to exploit them, but it's a fair play. I wouldn't be too worried since my first High Dragon kill was like that.

Also, I personally run with Champion's set because it looks a lot better.  If you're a min/max kind of person then you're stuck with being a Chantry person.

Well i bought the final thought and whooped on the high dragon. Occassionaly threw Aveline and them either heal/potion or group heal. hardest was actally the added dragons and dragonlings cause i couldn't afford to be in blood magic mode too long. When it was the actual fight Golem Fist worked well and Chain Lightning or Hemmorage when Aveline did have stamina to use Shield bash. A lot of the fight she was using that Stamina Regen 5% ability. Fact was it was a lot easier then my warrior. I have found Mage so far to be the best so far. Which is wierd since ppl say its gimped.

Was able to raise about 50 soverigns after recovering from the final thought. Just need to do the quest Best Served Cold to finish my Champion set. What else should i try to buy. I gotta a cpl more tomes i can buy for +1 talent point (1 of those) or +2 attribute ones (2 of those). Thought of buying the one ring from the Black Emperioum that gives more health maybe?

How does this look for my gear probably need some advice on what to put in their rune slots

Weapon: Final Thought (gonna put the attack speed rune in probably)
Helm: Cowl of the Champion
Gloves: Gloves of the Champion
Body: Robes of the Champion
Boots: Boots of the Champion

Belt: Belt of Vigor
Amulet: Jewel of the Ether
Ring 1: Awakened Might
Ring 2: ?????

I'd get at least the skill tome. Outside of that, your choice. You can get the stat boosts if you want. The difference in the endgame is somewhat minimal once you get your build fleshed out.

For the belt, I prefer the Enchanted Silverite Chain Belt, and I like Urzara's Tooth as my amulet. Otherwise, Ring of No Wishes/FallenStar should be the last slot.

edit: outside of a few choice pieces (i.e. Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness, Ring of the Ferryman, Champion's set, weapons) the rest doesn't drastically alter a build unless you actively decide to stack (i.e. stack +fire% damage).  Sort of like ME2 armor in that regard.
