Before I begin I should say a few things.

First, I romanced Tali.  Second, out of all my playthroughs, the Tali romance remains my favorite.

With that said, I don't want to see Tali's face in ME 3.  Anything that Bioware could come up with would destroy what we already imagine is underneath the mask.

The fact that Bioware is considering revealing what the quarians look like under the masks has me concerns.  In the Garrus video on Game Informer, they talk about this and how hard it is going to be to please the fans.

If they show us Tali's face, there will be an outcry amongst Tali fans because it isn't what we imagined it to be.  Also once Tali's face is revealed, we will be unable to imagine anything different.

So what are your thoughts?  I know a lot of Tali fans will probably say yes anyway, but I'm curious to see if there's anybody else out there who thinks the same way.

While I do agree with you in saying that it ruins Tali's image, she is their character, as far as I'm concerned, they can unmask her and troll face every Tali fan in the world. Lets face it, it was inevitable once they created a masked female character with a great personality. I can see the threads now...

What the hell, Bioware? You basically don't have a clue what a quarian is supposed to look like. You guys basically aren't good developers, because you ruined her for me by not making her a human. You guys basically should feel ashamed for screwing her fans, even though she is your creation.

Bioware: Ya jelly?

Then there are those people who will threaten to return their copy of ME3 if person X looks a certain way. I can see it now...

Welcome to Target, how may I help you?

Well, I'd like to return my copy of Mass Effect 3.

Okay, what seemed to be the problem with the game? Was it broken when you opened the box? I just need to know this stuff before I give you your money back.

Well, Bioware, the developers, spent years developing this character named Tali Zora Vas Normandy. She has a mask on throughout the series. However, someone at Bioware decided that unmasking Tali for the final act was a good idea. Turns out, she didn't look like I expected her to. As a sign of my disappointment, I am returning my game. Nobody should contradict my personal wishes.

...Okay...well...can I get the recite?

I don't have it.

So you don't have the recite, or a legitimate reason for returning the game.

That is correct.

Next!

Nonononono! I want you to give me my money back! This isn't fair!

Without your recite, I can't give you it back.

I'm not paying for this crap.

Apparently you already did.

With Mass Effect 3 being the end of the Mass Effects they should show her face.

Why do you guys feel the urge to imagine Tali's face and depict her somehow? Just stay cool when the devs will provide us with a picture of her without mask. No big deal.

They should show her face, despite it likely going to cause rage like Garfield getting a voiceover in films.

I think it'd be best if they leave it unseen. If they can just make her look remotely cute, I'd be OK with it.

I see no reason why we shouldn't see a quarian face.
It doesn't even have to be Tali, any old quarian will do.

Me here!

I am totally open to them showing a Quarian face. Kal'Reegar would be my favourite. Just don't show a female Quarian face and I am all set. After all, nothing is as good as ones own imagination, but we'd still get enough information on how she might look like!

Love it if they do, love it if they don't. And it's not because I like Tali no matter her face. It's because I dislike Tali no matter her face. Talimancers will cry no matter what. Bahahahaha!

People really need to get a hold of themselves, I'm a massive fan of Tali, and yet I would feel ripped off if she remained unseen. Most people seem to have some unhealthy obsession with her appearance being of some kind of sexy space elf. From the lore so far, we're not even sure if they have ears as all that is mentioned is something that "passes for an ear". Meaning the Quarians could turn out rather peculiar, but does that matter? Not really, as if you romanced her and were such a big fan of her it wasn't for her looks it was for the personality of the character itself.

Bioware will reveal her, it's the last game of the Trilogy thus making it one of the last times (if not the last time) we'll see Tali. There will be less outcry from the Tali fans who made up unrealistic visions of her appearance if they reveal her, than there would if they do not reveal her. If she is revealled the outcry will be heavy, heated but brief... but if they didn't, it'd be heavy, heated and last for a very long time. People on the forums wouldn't forget it.

This is the sort of thing that makes me worried.  Us as the fans have put a huge amount of pressure on the developers to show her face because we feel it is owed to us.  Problem is, the us fans are also a fickle crowd and it will be hard for them to meet our demands for what they look like.

And a lot of Tali's popularity has come from not seeing her face.  I think of the face reveal thread or numerous fanarts that depict her face.  If we are shown Tali's face in ME3, those things made worthless.

As far as the outcry goes, Sil has a point about how the outcry might not last as long if they show her face.  While I can see that, a lot of it depends on what they make her face to be, if they show it.  It goes back to the idea that Bioware could never create what we imagine.  Simple as that, and because they can't, I would prefer that they don't even try.

Bioware does not owe Tali fans a payoff in ME 3 as well, and expecting it to come is only going to lead to outcry later, whether they show Tali's face or not.

Bioware has painted themselves in a corner with Tali, that's for sure. Damned if they do, damned if they don't as the saying goes. There's no possible way a reveal will satisfy everybody, as the space the developers left intentionally blank has been filled by every players' imagination. The vast majority will be cool with it, or just won't care, but it's not the vast majority that jumps on these boards to post calm, objective opinions. ;)

And if they don't show? Same thing... Most people will either shrug it off. It's either an artistic choice by BW, laziness, or just a desire not to ****** off some segment of the fanbase, but again it's not the majority of the game's fans they have to worry about hearing from.

For my money, putting such weight on one single facet of a game that has so many other fantastic characters and story elements is silly... Cutting off the game's nose to spite an invisible face, as it were...

I really don't care. If they show her face, fine. If they don't, also fine. She's a great character and her looks being a mystery isn't a crucial portion of that.

Agreed.

Also agreed.  This is not going to be a game breaker for me either way.  I'd rather them not try to show us Tali's face though.  In the end people will get over it and continue imagining. Or at least that's what I'd hope for.

The easiest option may be the best for BioWare: Keep the quarians masked. That said it would be interesting to see how their artists will design quarians if they do decide to show them.

It's pretty tricky. Right now Tali has a huge fanbase. If they show her face, there are going to be people in that fanbase who will not like it it, thus making that fanbase smaller. Of course there could also be newcomers that will become a fan because of her real face, but I think that payoff is smaller compared to losing fans over it.

I think they should not. Just for the plain reason that'll probably keep more people happy than not. If they keep her masked that means everyone can be happy, as they can just use their imagination. If they create a set look then THAT IS WHAT SHE LOOKS LIKE. No other option.
