DA2 is a fairly decent game you can play once or maybe twice before getting bored
Origins is a work of art which can be replayed dozens of times and still find new things to do

yeah, Origins wins, no contest

DA:O has 50% more content then DA2 even without all the dlc and the story is lot better.

It has taken me 3 attempts and over 30 hours of wasted gameplay to get into Dragon Age Origins , both of my previous attempts were as a Warrior and i hated the combat , i just couldn't get to grips with it and did not find it enjoyable at all . I only really got into the game after trying Mage (Something i have never done in any previopus rpg) , i think of myself more of a "Conan" than "Harry Potter". Purely  in terms of combat i prefer the more immediate effect of Dragon Age 2 but Origins is better in almost everything else , in particular storytelling and party interactions , i'm just happy that i have persevered and feel like i've unearthed an absolute gem of a game:)

If there was no Dragon Age Origins, then I would say DA2 was the best game ever, but there is so it's not. DA:O just gave us so much more of everything. The story was better, the characters had endless banter, the scenery didn't use the same places over and over and the game was at least twice as long. There are parts of DA2 that are great improvements. The scenery is brighter, the characters are sharper and the combat system is better (IMO), but DA:O is an overall better game. Bioware had more time to spend on the little details with making DA:O, I got the feeling DA:2's production was more rushed and corners had to be cut.

DA2- I didn't feel addicted to this game as much as I was to DA:O, I only played it because I had nothing else to do .  When I finished the game I was thinking in my head " What the f*** is this BS? How did this game get a score of 100 from The Escapist ? How is this what video games are meant to be? ". I felt like I just got scammed of my hard earned cash ($90) and I hated it even more how they attempted to get more money out of me by making the ending a cliff-hanger. I will certainly not spend any more money on this installment of Dragon Age.

I was expecting a product with the same gameplay with improvements (what sequels are meant to do imo) but what I got instead was a totally different game that sadly shares the same lore as DA:O ( I wish this game was never made).I have to admit that there are some improvements, but these improvements are buried underneath all the flaws such as retcons (There's more, but they've been stated on the forums enough).

For me Dragon Age:Origins wins hands down.

DA2 i found decent but it felt like half a game and story very lacking.

I don't see DA:O as the pinnacle of RPGs like some people do (wouldn't make my top 10 RPGs) but it is a very good game.

Where DA 2 is an average game at best.

No contest, DA:O.

How many people preferred KotOR to KotOR2? The first is always going to be a little better and have some nostalgia in most cases. I think people are hating a little too much on DA2.

DAO: The story was very focused.
DA2: The story isn't nearly as focused. Throw in all the changes, and it's a bit jarring.

certainly true in some cases but there are a lot of exceptions
personally I liked some aspects of KotOR2 better than 1. 1 was better overall but a lot of it was due to the executive meddling 2 suffered from resulting in a LOT of cut content (which unlike the cut content from 1 was extremely blatant in its absence) and a big let-down of an ending

Baldurs Gae is a classic RPG which even to this day has a huge following of fans. But, in my opinion at least, Baldur's Gate 2 is even better. I'll admit they're pretty damn dated by today's standards, especially graphically, but they remain a fantastic example of how to make a great sequel to a great game

Morrowind of the Elder Scrolls series was a vast improvement over it's predecessors, largely due to advances in gaming (the first Elder Scrolls, Arena, for example is very, very dated now and most modern gamers would probably struggle to tolerate the controls even if they could look past the graphics) and proved that a game can make drastic changes to it's predecessors and still be a fantastic sequel. Oblivion, in my own opinion at least, was a disapointment, but the point Morrowind made still stands

Warcraft 2 took everything good about WC1 and improved it to the point that it's difficult to go back and play the first after playing the second. The third made even more improvements, and while not as good in some respects was, in my opinion at least, a stronger game overall. pretty much the same story for Starcraft 2 even despite having to wait for expansions for the Zerg and Protoss single player campaigns

Mass Effect 2... there's a tricky one. A lot of changes over the first game, some for better but some for worse. Overall though a great sequel to a great game and if ME3 can follow suite it's sure to be remembered as a classic trilogy for a long time to come. Pity DA2 will prevent Dragon Age from any such recognition.

Monkey Island 2 was a great game following in the footsteps of an all time classic. Despite an average sequel followed by an awful sequel (and an episodic sequel I've not yet tried, but will) the Monkey Island series remains a strong example of fantastic classic games based on those first two games.

those are just a few examples of good sequels off the top of my head, I'm sure I could think of more too. Not every sequel is a Highlander 2

Of course there are a lot of exceptions, but there's a ton of examples that have made the stigma about sequels.

For example: I have yet to play Morrowind but from what I hear from friends, they agree with you. Oblivion was a let down. I liked Oblivion, but I'm sure Skyrim will blow it out the water. Just what I hear about the changes to say leveling are making me happy.

I can name a few great ones as well, but there are a ton of stinkers out there too.

I love Origins, and I like DA2, not near as well as Origins. There was just more to do in Origins, it was the better game. I'm still playing Origins. I think they made a mistake in not making this DA2 a pure sequel.

I don't hate DAII. There was a lot of things I really loved about the game, but Origins wins for me hands and paws down. I played DAII twice and enjoyed it, but where I've played Origins over 20 times already I still went back to it. DAII just bored me unless I'm in the mood to play meat grinder with some ultra fantastic combat action.

I was all for improving the combat of Dragon Age, but when they turned it into a button mashing experience topped off with ridiculous animations, I'd rather they left it alone. There is a right way and a wrong way to make combat.

I can see where people flying out of thin air and flipping around like circus acrobats bugs people. That never really bothered me, because it makes me laugh. Not a good reaction for a serious game, but it keeps me amused if I'm in the right mood for it.

Of course, I also enjoy watching Anime, super hero movies / cartoons, reading comic books for the exagerrated style and so forth.   That doesn't make DA2 any less silly in that respect, but partially explains why I'm entertained.
