I'm not a fan of Cohen either but seriously, that's obvious.

Like for most of the player, for me DAO is better much than DA2 (by far).

The only two things I consider as improvement in DA2 are the new spells and talents trees and the improvement of texture quality (but unfortunately the flashy graphic style of DA2 is awful and preposterous for a fantasy RPG).

I have say Dao wins hands down the replay-ability is amazing I am a avid MMORPG verses the single player but I never wanted to replay any MMORPG except for The pre NGE Starwars or my all time favorite Pre-Atlantis in Dark Age or Camelot, I just finished Dragon Age 2 last week and it stunk except for the new Expansions they were tons of fun! I have played Dragon Age over and over and its my game till the new StarWars comes out ...I love the story line in DAO, in two I was like WTF????? I did not like the combat in Da2 Edeheusch I still can not figure out why but something was off...maybe it was long cool downs but the Mage side was terrible...I love Talis though! What was wrong about Dao2 was the ending in Dao you at least get a celebration...

I watched a few DA2 videos and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was several combat scenes, but the combat was going on at warp speed. In 2 hits, enemies were dead and I had no idea what they were or what they looked like. Lightning was flying out of people's ****es and blood was spurting 20 feet in the air.

I said to myself what the heck is this crap? Gaming for the ADD crowd? I won't be purchasing.

What you prolly were seeing is th "tutorial" for DA2, where things are ... over emphasized. Don't let that fool you (which honestly seems now to have had been a bad idea to put in now).

For me, after playing both, I have to say DA:O is better.

I thought Baludr's Gate II was better than BG 1, but only because it was a logical evolution of its predecessor. Both were worth replay.
Neverwinter Nights II was much better than NWN 1 in all aspects; I never replayed NWN 1.

Dragon Age II does not interest me at all. I liked DA Origins, which has so many memorable story moments, but in the end I find the Diablo-esque character ability progression kind of gets uninteresting once you hit the mid-levels.

Origins, I like because it feels like I'm more involved - I feel like my decisions really matter as opposed to DAII where I can pretty much do anything and the outcome is more or less exactly the same even though they built it up to have you think that there's two totally different ways the ending could go.

I can be pretty much anyone from anywhere (not exactly, but it's more personal when you get to choose your origins instead of your backstory always being set in stone) and because the Hawke/Amell family already has established lore to it, there's more of a blank-slate feeling that's much more roleplay-friendly.

It's harder to roleplay in DAII.... I always feel as though have to side with the mages no matter what because....well, because my father and my sister were both mages and my mother's family has a long history of people being mages. I have a vested interest and while I'd personally love to side with the templars on a character, it's much harder to do that when you've got magic in your bloodline. You can be so many different types of people in Origins where you don't necessarily have a vested interest in anything.

I still love DAII, don't get me wrong. But I like it because I can be Socially-Awkward-Hawke and have a completely different experience than basically saving all of Thedas. The combat is also faster and more animated, which while wasn't totally realistic, made the gameplay more fun.

It all really depends on whether I'm in the mood to play something more serious or not.

I do think, though, that instead of calling it Dragon Age II, it should have been Dragon Age: Legend of Kirkwall or something. It's set after Origins, yes, and the stuff you did in Origins effects minor quests and stuff, but....it's not a real sequel. It's a totally different feeling game.

The two don't belong in the same franchise. DA:O was an epic tale with hours and hours of side quests, interactions and a true sense that your actions made a difference to the world. DA2 was at best a missbranded spinoff title, it should never have been called a sequal. It is a completely different style, starting from the narative to the interaction to the gameplay and even the art direction that honestly made me feel as if I wasn't even in the same world. Add to that the obvious cost cutting and rushed nature of DA2 and there is no way you can put these in the same category.

What offended a lot of DA fans was not that DA2 was a bad game, it was that we were promised a sequal and were handed a spinoff loosely based in the same universe. If it had been called something else and had been marketed as a spinoff then I may have even baught it. But as it is, I borrowed it from a friend, played it through once and deleted it because it annoyed me so much. It isn't terrible, its just not at all what I was waiting for.

DAO is an epic game, while DA 2 is a pretty good game. DAO is by far better than DA 2 and there are many many reasons why that's so, such as better characters, better overall story, better main character and knowing that your choices have a major impact on the world around you. The only thing's i wanted from DA 2 that werent in origins were the ability for your character to speak and the improvements on the combat.

I was severely disappointed in DA2.... But it's not a godawful game... just a godawful sequel, as many others have discussed.
DA2 is a decent game.... especially when you mod in customizable companion armor and stuff...

But Origins was a godsend. And I agree with the sentiment that had DA2 been a spinoff, rather than a sequel, there would be not nearly as much hate for it.

So, yes... I suppose Origins is better than DA2.

When I first heard about the Dragon Age games, I was more on the Mass Effect and Halo area, and once I got DA2 I thought It was one of the more awsome games in my collection, then once I got DA:O to fill in the void, my mind was completely blown, not only was it at the top of my collection from then on, I just couldnt ever bring myself to play DA2 ever again... Dragon Age Origins in my opinion completely wins hands down.

It seems the answer is too obvious here.
DA:O is what i call a gift to gaming. Don't get me wrong, i think that DAll is a respectable game that many can enjoy. In fact, i myself have probably wasted away 150+ hours on it alone. There is no doubt that despite all of its flaws, it can still be enjoyable to many.
BUT,
DA:O is another story. Despite spending around 200+ hours on it, i have not discovered all there is to it, and probably never will. No matter how many times i play through it, i never seem to get tired of it. It truly is something that can only be described as epic, in every sense of the word. It was the first game that i ever actually felt an attachment to and, looking back at it, sparked my never-ending love of RPGs of all kind.
....Now, if you'll excuse me, i think i'll go start another playthrough on Origins.

DA:O
+ Epic storyline
+ Amazing depth to everything
+ Sex with party
+ Morrigan
+ Spell combos

- Camera Angles
- Character expressions
- Lame combat

DA2
+ Great graphics
+ Camera Angles
+ Combat style
+ Great character development(over time)
+ Mood responses (angry, peaceful, sarcastic etc)
+ Fenris

- Repeating level designs(over and over and over = boredom)
- Inability to change certain events regardless of choices (sorry Hawke's mom, Marathari, Grand Cleric etc)

Overall winner DA:O

Origins has more content, better atmosphere and is more serious in general. I'm replaying origins now, the only thing da2 does much better is companions help in some situations. Like Varric talking to templars outside the cave, to bandits in the cave, or killing bloodmage who wanted to betray you and so on. Well, and maybe it also does better job with limiting dialogues with companions - I already ran out of dialogue options for Morrigan and Alistair, but I only completed like 1/4 of the game. In da2 they always had to tell you something at the beginning of next act.

A sequel is a continuation of a story line, or futher adventures of  a main character.  DA2 was going for the former, but what storyline exactly were they continuing?  The box says a new hero with a new adventure.

DA2 is as much of a sequal to Origins as The Ewok Adventures are to Return of the Jedi.  And no one says that the Ewok Adventures are a sequal to the original Staw Wars series.  It's labled as a spin off. http://en.wikipedia...._Ewok_Adventure

Apart from the combat animations...which i preferred in DA2 DAO is by far the much better game...

I mean being constrained to one city? The absolute abysmal nerf of Mages, buffing of Rogues and the lack of any customisation for your party turned DA2 into a mediocre game. DAO was one game i thought they did almost perfectly.

No after 15yrs of RPG playing being the all seeing all knowing all doing hero that saves the entire world with their merry men/women and defeats the big bad evil horde got very tiring several years ago.If I took
KOTOR changed the lightsabers for swords, changed the names of the characters and set it on planet in a timeframe with a medieval theme DAO would be the result but to make matters worse the combat that broke up the tired and tedious story was appalling its was more like 2 mins of zumba fitness regimes followed by 10 mins of hump the silly darkspawn by witch time one of you NPC companionions had killed the enemy you just spent 2 mins shuffling into posistion to attack and dont get me started on the bugs.

DA2 has its faults but its far more enjoyable when you have a limited amount of spare time on your hands, honestly reading the old dungeons and dragons novels was more fun than playing DAO.
Rest assured though I found a use for my DAO disc , I had it laminated and now use it as a drinks coaster
