Not sure I like the sound of Sanders. But then, with Kaidan/Ash, Liara and Garrus already confirmed as squadmates, I doubt Sanders would be spending much time on my team anyway. He'll be staring at the wall and polishing his .. weapon alot.
As for the team having disbanded, this is hardly a surprise. Shepard's been in custody for however long, not everyone will have hung around. I thought the ME2 team was for one particular mission, anyway - the suicide run through the Omega Relay, not the wider war against the Reapers. If Zaeed's been paid, he's probably retired (or is still looking for Vido), Kasumi's on the run from whoever's looking for the greybox, or just trying to rebuild her life without Khaji, Jack's probably out there on a one-woman crusade to destroy Cerberus, Thane is spending his last few months with his son, Mordin is getting on a bit and can't keep the pace, Samara has been called back to help protect Asari space from the Reaper force, Grunt is helping defend the clan, Tali has been asked to do some high level research into the dark energy issue either by the Fleet or the Alliance, Legion is having to help with some unexpected issues arising from whatever happened with the heretic geth, and Jacob and Miranda are both back with Cerberus (for the moment), or possibly Jacob's returned to the Alliance. This assuming, of course, that they are all still alive or were recruited in the first place. No retconning necessary, it makes sense.
And actually, I'm sure this won't be the case in all instances. I am as positive as I can be that
at least a couple of the above will be available as squad members in ME3 (my money's on Tali, Legion or another geth platform if Legion wasn't recruited, Grunt or another Krogan if Grunt wasn't activated, and either Jacob or Miranda). Mordin is a distinct possibility as a temporary squaddie if we go to the Salarian homeworld.
Haven't read Retribution, though I did quite enjoy the previous two books. Is it any good?
