I'd honestly take the guy with the big muscles than to go with the stereotypical Asian martial arts master.

I would preferably have neither, and if forced to choose, go with the "asian" stereotype which has more to do with Finesse than brute force. Then again, I guess it all comes down to "Are you a machine gun or sniper rifle kind of guy?"

THIS is the source of all of my hate for Gears of War. It's pathetic, low, and degrading to the story as well as that stupid stereotype of the "big black guy with an attitude"

As to the "football player on steroids", Having them bumble around with biceps the size of their waists and heads is just silly, stupid, and looks like it's made to appeal to prepubescant children, and has no place in the Mass Effect universe.

So an eccentric character is automatically stupid and degrading? Sorry, I'll call Bioware to go remove Jack and Grunt then. Seriously? I know there is alot wrong with Gears, I'm a huge fan and I still admit that, but Cole is the only problem you can state? Acting crazy and fun is away of boosting moral in a crappy situation, but if he's black, well he can't do it then. Way to pull the race card, man.

As for Sanders, I'm fine with him being big. As long as he's written well, like 98% of all Bioware's characters, I see no problem.

To each their own, I guess.

Hudson also announced that Commander Shepards built team from the second part of Mass Effect 3 has fallen apart.

...................................................................

ME fan: Wow Bioware, I love these ME1 characters you guys made.

Bioware: Why thank you, we take pride in them!

ME fan: Cool, so we'll be bringing them over into ME2?

Bioware:
 Ehh...not really, everybody split up.

ME fan: Umm...ok.......

Bioware: Don't worry though, we're making the very best team out of awesome characters for ME2. Actually, this team is so damn important, the whole damn game is dedicated to building the team up, and there's barely a core story!

ME fan: Ok, sounds sweet! So we'll use THAT team for ME3. Makes sense, build up this awesome team, and use them in ME3's story.

Bioware: Well, no, that team's fallen apart too...

ME fan: Then WTF was Mass Effect 2 about?

Bioware: Umm...well...you're banned from the forums and our games.

Pretty much. Kai Leng sounds like he's the martial arts guy and James Sanders is the guy with the muscles.

But in the end, it's what you have in your head that counts.

Well, its kind of obvious they would get rid of your squad in preparation for new members (everyone's all "we want cool new members" while avoiding the fate of the current crew >>), but at least they wont get rid of all of them, like re-recruiting Garrus and Tali in ME2. I can honestly say I hate the idea of having the team I spent so much time and effort on broken up. I just hope it will be done tastefully, like "split up and do what you can in preparation" or "find whatever information you can", not like the guilt trip in ME2...

I would hope people realize the introduction of new characters is much more enticing than the keeping of old ones. Character development is an integral part of any RPG but it's kind of difficult to further develop characters who have already undergone development.

The characters from the last game have not been forgotten, they will still play a part in the game in one form or another. Think logically; it would be an appalling move to just keep all the characters from the last game, no matter how attached anyone here have gotten.

Yeah, this is hardly a case of Shep finding a whole new team of characters to recruit. Plus half of the ME1 team DID return, arguably they all did. We don't know the context of the team falling apart thing yet, but in both cases it makes perfect sense for the individuals Shepard recruited to complete ONE mission to move on to other things. Y'know, to live their lives. We are trying to pretend that they have motivations and desires beyond the main plot, right?

Considering it looks like Garrus, at least, may have stuck around in some fashion I think it's too early to judge how silly the squad break up is as well. Almost every member of Shepard's crew for the Suicide Mission had a reason to leave after it's completion afterall.

...Or he was perfectly sober and the crew can both drift apart/go their seperate ways and yet still return and appear in the game? Y'know, kinda like how most freelance operators wouldn't spend the rest of their lives living on their friends ship? He wasn't even officially their boss.

What's wrong with the beefy tank soldier type character? I think it will be good for a change. Every human male (and female for that matter) looks exactly the same. They all have this average "stay in shape" body type, and they really don't differ much in that sense. No one is really fat, really musculine, really tall or really small. And there is not a single human male with long hair, not a squad member or an NPC for that matter.
I think a little more diversity in character design would be great. And to be clear, I'm talking about body types and hair styles here, not personalities, voices, faces and skin colours.

Damn, one of the only times that I actually lol'd IRL about something on these forums...I would say that's completely true, but I want to see more context about the squad's social problems before passing judgement.

Saying that the team isn't together does not mean that none of the characters are in the game. I like how you ignore what they've said about how the characters are in the game but they won't all be permanent squad members.

People really love to jump to conclusions don't they.

It makes perfect sense that the team would be split up at the beginning of me3, its the perfect plot device to introduce new people to the characters and allows for some characters to only return in a non squadmate role.

Logically if the whole team stayed together and we started me3 with them any new player would be really pissed and a large part of the game would make no particular sense, plus we already know the normandy is in alliance hands now, so what did people think the me2 team was just waiting outside the court.

If Shepard wilingly goes on trial to explain his/her actions then it would make perfect sense to disband the crew first and set up rendevous points with them later. Now take into account places we kinda know we may visit in me3, Tchunkha, salarian homeworld, migrant fleet etc. wouldnt it make sense that while in these places we would run into old friends and find some of them rectruitable.

We already know garrus is a potential squadmember (permanent or temporary) and i kinda recollect him being a part of my crew in me2 so whats to say that its not going to be the same with most of the others also?

We start the game most likely with the new guy and the vs, we leave earth and go about building the forces we need to win the war and along the way we reunite with miranda/grunt etc. some of these join us and some dont, which ones we'll find out later but just getting in a tizzy because they won't be in our squad from the get go is missing the point. With what we know of the plot and storyline so far, having them in from the get go makes absolutely no sense.

This.

You have her back but Bioware is bringing back it seems the whole ME 1 crew in 3. Where the hell is the ME 2 crew at . Oh thats right  Ashley and Kaiden and Tali and Garrus are forced to be on the squad due to fan service or  god forbid fan outrage from the ME 1 fans. So does that mean ME 2 characters get the npc treatment . Its bull sh*t that Bioware is so clearly on the side of the ME 1 fans . They have no balls to discuss ME 2 characters at this time.

WHAT BULL****!

A muscular man with a crew cut would NEVER fight in a war!

Let's boycott Bioware for them daring to include a character with this description! Because, his appearance is all that really matters! Let's not wait to judge him on his dialogue or his characterisation, let's start now and say DOWN WITH BIOWARE!

There will be a drop of testicles around E3. Until then, you'll have to wait to grow up as well, it seems.

Also, lets not forget that despite all our best affections for our squadmates, not all of them are so motivated by heroism that they'd want to continue putting their lives on the line.

Remember, a good many of them were HIRED by the Illusive Man. Know where a mercenary goes when you stop paying him? The horizon.

Jack, Miranda, Jacob, Thane, Zaeed, Kasumi, Morinth and Samara are all people that I can see leaving for no better reason then "Why me?"

Uh, let's see:

Miranda: You helped her save her sister, and/or may be in a romance with her. I can see why she would possibly leave, but even then, just abandoning Shepard like a hot potato after a 2 year revival just feels contrived.

Jacob: I'm very doubtful he would even *WANT* to go back to the Alliance. I'm more or less sure he'd stick around for Shepard, LI or not, especially with a certain alien base's fate.

Thane: Has the only logical explanation for having an out, and at best, I see him as a temporary squaddie considering his disease.

Morinth, Samara, Zaeed, and Kasumi: No argument.

I just ran with some 'is this Kahlee's brother?' statement I saw weeks ago and thought that meant as such.

It's still possible he's a relative from her mother's side though.  The books just say she has no immediate family.

Ah, yeah. So 'half-brother' is a possibility.

If the character of Kai Leng really does show up, which looks blatantly likely, I'd be a bit perplexed at the idea of a guy with the last name of 'Sanders' having zero relation, anyway. I mean, it could certainly happen but it seems one of those lines that writers don't often tread.

You do know that Arrival had a generic human NPC with the surname Williams, right?

THIS is the source of all of my hate for Gears of War. It's pathetic, low, and degrading to the story as well as that stupid stereotype of the "big black guy with an attitude"

As to the "football player on steroids", Having them bumble around with biceps the size of their waists and heads is just silly, stupid, and looks like it's made to appeal to prepubescant children, and has no place in the Mass Effect universe.

Bottom line?

Larger muscle =/= More deadly opponent.

Except that moment was actually one of many great highlights in a very serious campaign.

Also, all of this Marcus Fenix = big dumb guy stuff is even more hilarious. It's a testament to people who don't bother to follow another game series' lore (books) and then pretend like they know it. Marcus Fenix was trained at Embry Academy, an elite school for military officers. He recieved the best schooling thanks to his insanely rich parents.

Cole lost both of his parents and writes letters to them to come to terms with his loss and stay mentally sound.

Solving math equations does not become important when your world has been mired in a war for 15 years which has destroyed civilization and left humanity with one remaining city.

You can learn stuff from reading books, just as we did from reading Revelation, Ascension, and Retribution.

People can get off their high horse and end equating muscles into bad.

That's the problem. We shouldn't be *REQUIRED* to read supplementary material to get the basic back story. I definitely blame Halo for creating this standard.

I'm sorry, what? If that is your definition of 'scrawny' I really would hate to think what your opinion of people who don't work out. Kaidan and Jacob are both obviously very physically fit. The reason so many of us dispise Gears of War is because it is taken to an extremely OTT degree, it is almost beyond unrealistic. Most tough as nails soldiers don't look even half that 'built'. Plus there is no reason for ME to have ANY 'tank' characters, Krogan are big naturally but we really don't need to worry about 'tank/healer/dps' in a game like ME. Characters should certainly not have their look and physical attributes designed around the role they play anyway. At least not to that degree.

Lastly, Gears of War's 'story' would have been trashed to within an inch of it's life if it was released in the cinema. It may be a good game for a number of other reasons but let's be serious here.
