Im positive Ash/Kaidan arent the only two humans in the ME universe. IM positive there are more qualified individuals than Ash/Kaidan that can be spectres.

Name one.

How about a character from Nebraska named Albert T. Pennywinkle.  THE POINT is...the Mass Effect Universe is big where they dont have to use a familiar characters to fill a role. The writers at Bioware are good enuff to pull something creative and believable enuff.

Like watching Star Wars the Clone Wars the animated series....STAR WARS universe IS HUGE!! but why they keep having characters from the movies set 20+years later? I mean i thought the cameo by Chewie in Episode III was lame..but in the series? FOR REAL? the only reason they would do it is for name recognition. even worse....Anakin built C3PO but doesnt pay no mind to it as Darth? sign of bad writing imho. BW is better than that!

Yeah!

Yeah I think them becoming spectres is completely retarded. What did they do other than be Shepard's crewmates. What COULD they have done during the time Shepard was dead? So confusing.

Well we don't know. You play the game and find out....that's the whole point.....

So you have no one and would rather they 'make up' a new character instead of adding more character depth to a character that's supposed to be important to the ME Universe and ME3 specifically? I would rather they go with this route than 'Hey Guys! This No Name that's never been shown before is a Spectre! Your Replacement after you died! Even if they were never mentioned before this point and what they did is 'classified'!".

I do find it weird to have Shepard standing trial because in Mass Effect 2 you can be reinstated as a Spectre and Spectres don't answer to anyone but the council so being judged on Earth is strange and even though the Alliance want him to be a part of the Alliance's chain of command Anderson said that he isn't anymore.

ashley as spectre? who the fudge trained her? did nihlus rise up from the grave while we werent looking? howd she even pass? i doubt there were any human spectres if any at all to train her due to her rampant xenophobia.

There isn't any spectre training,  they just need an okay from another Spectre.  I'm pretty sure Nilus,  Saren,  and Shepherd weren't the only Spectres in existance.

Yes there is.  Try talking to ME1 Garrus sometime.  And no, the OK of another Spectre is neither sufficient nor required.  It merely helps.

so couldnt Ash/Kaidan be N7or another secret branch of the alliance? why would them being spectres be better? sooooo you are fine with saying something REALLY important happened off screen to warrant them being spectres is a better and more feasible option THAN adding a person who has done something just as feasible off screen based solely on the fact that they have already been in a Mass Effect game? kinda goes back to my thing about Star Wars.

making them Spectre doesnt add depth. the story behind it would. and as ive stated in previous posts...THAT WOULD BE A HUGE jump in depth levels...more than simple dialogue. cuz everyone knows how VS was in ME1...and how wishywashy or ****sured they were in ME2 (depending on dialogue options).

And VS may be important to you...i wouldnt consider them IMPORTANT to the ME universe. they are no more important than anyother teammate. and unless you know something I dont...IT IS ONLY a fact that VS WILL be in ME3...not that they will PLAY A HUGE ROLE....CUZ SHEPARD....YOU....are THE BIG CHEESE!!

I didnt like either in ME1. i didnt like their cameo in ME2. Im not gonna like them in ME3...unless it is to let them die! They are cowards that lack intergrity. I mean..they dissed Shep for being with Cerberus in front of his crew! Hell! Garrus and Tali knew what Cerberus was all about but they JOINED SHEP!! Liara was p.o.'d at Cerberus, but it wasnt about them when Shep showed up. Joker, Chakwas and a few others not given names by Bioware, left and joined for the Chance to follow on, especially after the Alliance dumped on Shep....yet VS stayed. Oh they can sing that...Oh I thought it was the best place for me to do good and carry on your memory! Hell no!!

so no VS spectre. Chakwas...or Albert T. Pennywinkle III, Esq.

Yeah Shepard was N7 and so had a lot of training for Spec Ops and the like, and was supposed to have some prodigous talent for it. Ash is just a Gunnery Chief. (No insult to Gunnery Chiefs intended.)

In response to Javier: Shepard has the N7 vocational code of the Systems Alliance military, and Ashley is designated as a S7. You can see that on the left side of her new uniform in the image you provided. N stands for Special Forces (and Spectres are part of those). The number indicates the proficiency and ranges from 1 trough 7 (inclusive). It is unknown what the S is used for, but the 7 indicates that whatever group S stands for she is highly skilled.

No, they're not.  They have nothing to do with any military, much less that of the System Alliance.  They've also been known to draw from law enforcement.

Source: N7.

In ME1 Ashley used to have vocational code B4. I also found that in the wikia.

The council went so far as to call Shep a delusional poison pill. Why would anyone loyal to Shep be any different? VS..especially if they were a LI would have been very close to Shep. why is that line about the council not wanting to get involved in the investigation of missing HUMAN colonists dismissed? Why say this in front of the human councilor then send a human spectre who represents the council to investigate something they do not want to get involved in? In makes no sense. EVEN after Anderson SAYS.....Williams is STILL WITH THE ALLIANCE. mmmm why Ash say had to ask Anderson to verify intel but he wouldnt talk? If she was a spectre it would have been news he could have shared.oh..and the I know where my loyalty lies, with the Alliance...it's in my blood. more evidence to the contrary than for!  I find it HIGHLY unlikely that the council would make VS a spectre in between 2 and 3...ESPECIALLY after the s*** storm Shep kicked up. EVERYONE will try to further distance themselves...it makes sense politically.

maybe S is Alliance Intelligence or Security Forces

More information about the code from the codex:

System Alliance: N7

The Alliance Military Vocational Code system classifies the career path of all serving personnel. The MVC consists of one letter and one number. A soldier's MVC indicates proficiency, not rank. The letter notes career path; the number indicates level of experience, as indicated by service record, technical scores, and commendations. All 26 letters are used, and numbers run from 1 to 7. N is the letter code for Special Forces personnel.

I had the impression that human Spectres became N7 no matter where they came from. But you could be right. I got that idea because Shepard's gear starts to have the N7 emblem after he gets his equipment from C-Sec in ME1.

what would upset me even more..IF they made VS a spectre and gave THEM the Normandy...forcing YOU to put up with them throughout the game. I would NERD-RAGE! a sham-Trial and a hijacking i can accept...but not with VS at the helm.

N7 is an Alliance occupational code.  You don't get it unless:

a. You've served in the Alliance military.

and:

b. You've completed the proper training program while serving.

But you could be right. I got that idea because Shepard's gear starts to have the N7 emblem after he gets his equipment from C-Sec in ME1.

No, that happens whenever you wear an Onyx hardsuit, regardless of when and where it was acquired.  You start ME1 in an Onyx armor, complete with the N7 logo.

I'd love to have Ash become a Spectre. Then again, I romanced her in ME1 and have always loved her character so I'm biased.

Would be nice to have two Spectres on the squad.

Well, Spectres apparently do work in pairs some times.

Now would be a GREAT time for Spectres to team up, what with the universe about to get systematically annihilated and such.
